Description

[2022-06-04: Currently drafting Act II - been on a hiatus trying to edit all the typos and continuity issues out of the first 12 chapters. Will start posting again in a few of days, probably at a chapter-per-week rate]

Once upon a time, Maeve Morgan decided to be born... but she doesn't quite remember why.

The other day, a voice told her to tell her own story... but she's not so sure just where to start, or quite when to stop.

Maeve Morgan just wants to be left alone on her island, really, to shingle her roof, and maybe catch a Gnome someday.Meanwhile, in another Timeline...

Bardlii Noonstar embarks on a mission to chronicle the adventures of a common hooded rat, which the Sentient City of Owl claims is destined be the Realms' next greatest Known Hero. And somehow, all of this will become connected.

Which of our narrators will untangle this curious knot, by bravely and kindly advancing the plot?

    TL:DR
I really love the very unique story style and writing. The characters are awesome and I can quite relate to Maevis being all over the place while telling a story. Can't wait for more chapters to continue with Maevis and Bardii Noonstar more.
    Details:
Sorry I had to deduct half a point in grammar. I found a few typos. Otherwise it would not be a fair review.
The story itself is very interesting and keeps me inquisitive and asking what's next, especially in Maevis' narration. On Bardii's part, it's still early days but I would like to know more.
But the most interesting point of the story in my opinion is the writing style. I have read quite a few books till now and this is one I find written in a very unique style which I like very much. I'll refrain from spoiling too much here so other readers can also read and enjoy.
As for the characters, I find myself more relatable to Maevis and more attracted to the chapters with her point of view. I would really like to Gnow more of that. Although I would also like to know more about Bardii and his choice of door colors. And of course of his mission and all the other related issues he faces too.

Witches & Knights & Unicorn Fights is a bit of an anomaly in the Royal Road ecosystem. There's no LitRPG or progression elements, and no reincarnation (I think). Nevertheless, the story has quickly managed to become my favourite posted during the Writathon - and for good reason.
Written in a style that twists and weaves like an extremely humble drunkard trying to find their way home, it somehow manages to be both charming and legitimately enjoyable. It takes a bit of getting used to, especially in the first few chapters - it might be easier to acclimatise if those chapters dealt with more concrete things, rather than the more abstract points they delve into (though they do set a good tone for the story) - however after the third chapter I began to immerse myself thoroughly, spending a disproportionate amount of time smiling while doing so. There's something very unique and innocent about it that goes beyond the proliferation of Proper Nouns scattered throughout each chapter. I'd go so far as to say to say that alongside the characters, the style is what I enjoy most about the story.
Grammatically, it also stretches far above the vast majority of stories on the site. But as a result of writing rapidly, getting caught up in the story, or perhaps the style itself, there are often a (very) minor error or two in each chapter, something accompanied by a phrase far less intuitive than the rest of the style. The author, the great and powerful B.B Butterwell, is very quick to respond to any edit suggestions, so that problem will likely be negated pretty rapidly, I think.
The narrative is, like the style it is written in, quite slow, more slice-of-life than anything else. We're about 200 pages (by RR's count) in by this point, and it's still mostly the protagonist Maeve doing Maeve things, the story occasionally intercepted by Bardlii every few chapters. Speaking of Bardlii, that component of the story takes place in a seperate Timeline, and it's easy to question why Bardlii'
