- VraneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is entertaining. I was less than eager to read it at first because I usually don't enjoy crossovers, but I'm happy I gave it a shot.
There's nothing wrong with the fundamentals, which is why I've given it a five star. The grammar is flawless, and I didn't see a single spelling mistake.
The story structure and pacing are very well done. Characters all seem to have a purpose in the narrative and the book is still in the build-up phase, which gives promise to the (hopefully) inevitable bloodshed and war to come.
The MC himself is well done. He's manipulative, convincing, cunning, and has a nice cruel streak to round him out. There are also glimpses at a soft core underneath, although whether that is real or not is still up in the air. I am excited to see where he goes, and I am confident the author can come up with some actual challenges for him.
The Starcraft powers are well done. Not nearly as OP as I would have imagined, nor as central to the story as I had feared. The author managed to walk a fine line rather well.
I'm only 20 chapters in, and the story could go terribly sideways in the future, but I have great confidence in the author after enjoying his previous work Focused Fire.
Now that's all the praise out of the way, so I'm going to nitpick. I have read the author's previous work, so it's also kind of a nitpick about his general writing style, which is both remarkably enjoyable to read, and yet gets a bit predictable and formulaic.
The story is told entirely from random character's perspectives. Which is fine, but makes it much harder to grasp the overall structure of how things are going. It also makes is much harder to tell who the MC as a person actually is, with his personality seeming to fluctuate wildly between different perspectives.
The characters in the story do seem a bit too happy to do things that benefit the MC, but I guess that's one of the pitfalls of writing in second person. Every character seems to praise the MC a bit too much, and - Dingo PDRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story was great, easy to read. The mix of warcraft and starcraft was pretty entertaining. Nothing too ourageous, just good old fun.
I hope there will be book two sometime in the future, Cairne is one of my favorite characters in WoW. and MC seems to have penchant for collecting the good guys. - HakharRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Long time I scour the internet for fanfictions. Hiatuses drops weird wish fullfulment writing aplenty. And alot of dissapointment. Yet this one is not, crisp clear writing holding integrety of the characters and the world. Thank you for writing this and looking forward to your next work! And hoping for a long winded fanfiction.
- Kaladin23Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really enjoyed this! I fully recommend. This is the first time I’ve ever read a story that never once is from the MC’s POV, I liked it! Jaina’s chapters were my favorite, her life is so awful in cannon. It made me happy to read about an alternate version of her being happy.
The ending was pretty good, the author said in their note that they couldn’t think of more snippets to close it off but it could be a whole Part 2! Where Kyle and Jaina go around helping the other peoples of Azeroth, meeting the Night Elves, and Draenei. They would work hard at enhancing the Alteraci’s lives first but everyone’s eventually as their advancements trickle out to the other countries. They would deal with all of Azeroth’s problems before they actually become problems like in game, Jaina would have to be made aware of Kyle’s full knowledge/backstory of course. Shadow Lands wouldn’t even be a thing because the Helm of Domination would be purged by Kyle’s Psionics… ahh it would be awesome. Maybe some day! - AldrighiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I loved the author's other work inside the avatar world and im loving this one even more.
Despite not playing Warcraft 3 and WoW i know the overall lore and i also love Starcraft, this is very entertaining and i can't wait to see what will happen.
I recommend anyone to read this and also his other story. - SageofloreRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Highly recommend this to anyone even if you only have surface level knowledge about WoW or Starcraft. This is better than most fanfictions on RR, has good grammar, prose and story telling. The beginning chapters might be a bit jarring as it has a "side characters" POV on the Mc but this quickly becomes a non issue as the story is more fun to read from the POV of the characters surrounding the Mc as it really shows the impact that Mc has on the world and people around them.
- Imp902Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5First of all I am almost completely unfamiliar with the warcraft side of things never having played the games but I am passingly familiar with starcraft lore. Despite most of the story being based on Warcraft lore, and the starcraft lore being largely unused, the author has managed to create a narrative that has not left me totally lost and confused and that I am quite enjoying. I have the impression that actually knowing warcraft lore would likely only enhance the experience of the story and maybe fill in a couple things that likely got past me. So from that perspective I Fully recommend giving this fiction a read and would like to offer my thanks to the author for sharing their creation.
- ThousandLeavesRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The good point is that the world building is nice, the side characters are well done and the world seemed to logically work.
The bad point is that when I read this, I have a feeling that I need a tag "No Main Character". It seemed to me that the MC is definitely a weakness of this fiction and when I got used to the fact that the MC is kind of only half-present through the chapters, I have arrived at some feels family chapter that was at that point quite jarring, because it was either too late or redundant at that point.
It was like you look at a bottle of wine, yet drinking water for a year and when you finally get the wine, it tastes bad because you are already used to drinking water.
Hope that makes sense.
My conclusion is, it is good but the MC has been introduced and developed in a too funky way to the point I am quite unsure if I continue reading this, even though I am a big fan of WoW. - DCatRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Updated review.
Narrative Style follows multiple people's PoV that is not the MC's while sprinkling in some 3rd Person PoV so that we can gleam a little bit of what Kyle is planning.
Honestly, the storytelling technique is largely reminischent of a one player's side and the game madter's side of a Storium Empire Building game.
Here you don't follow the story of the MC, but you follow the lives of the people around the MC and learn a bit more about the story and the MC as the PoV shifts around.
Only 10 Chapters in but we've already went through way too many PoV shifts that as an immersive reader, I can't even bother caring about the PoV of new characters as we may no even see them again in the future - turning most of the characters into one-time use plot device to develop the story instead of a proper person of their own that grows and develops as time goes on.
Which is exactly what I feared when I posted my first review, and which is why this is reminding me of a Storium game; because although the technique us rare, it does exist, but the way its being executed leaves much to be desired.
Still a solid story tho, will continue reading with lowered expectations, less inmersion and just skim through new PoVs for the important points.
Again, if you want to backseat the life story of an MC, this story is not for you. - LordSakageRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I just binge-read the story, and it was an interesting experience overall. However, I felt that Kyle's power/system wasn't well-defined. While this lack of detail might make the story easier to write, it's a bit disappointing for readers who want to enjoy the excitement of unlocking new powers and seeing how these abilities become known to the world.
The mini nexus for recall was also a letdown because it trivialized many elements, like the reinforcements for battles. From what I remember, there was an upgrade that allowed teleportation to pylons, but I could be mistaken. The third-person viewpoint is a cool way to get the perspectives of outsiders, but there should still be some chapters from Kyle’s point of view to deepen our connection to his character.
If you’re looking to rewrite the story, here are my suggestions:
1. **Kyle’s Backstory**: Make Kyle an orphan, as the involvement of his parents and step-brother doesn’t add much to his character.
2. **Earth Origins**: Establish that Kyle is from Earth, but specify when his knowledge stops (around Warcraft 3 or World of Warcraft: Legion).
3. **Dalaran and Dragons**: Have Kyle travel to Dalaran and establish contact with the dragons. Perhaps the Green dragons could vouch for him because of his “dreams” (i.e., knowledge from games).
4. **Bronze Dragons and Assassination**: Introduce an assassination plot involving the Bronze dragons. Kyle reconciles with them and gains Nerazim psionics, surviving thanks to this power.
5. **Forming an Inner Circle**: Kyle starts building his inner circle after the assassination attempt. Jaina is the first member, attracted by his magic. The second could be a paladin, Alexandros Mograine, followed by Sylvanas Windrunner as a hunter, and a shaman of any race as the fourth.
6. **Building His Base**: Recognized as a Templar, Kyle’s telepathic and psionic abilities grow as he begins building his base.
7. **Leadership of Alterac**: Kyle is put in charge of the Alterac kingdom, setting the
