The story bounces around quite a bit, and while the concept of furry characters exists here aside from it being more characterization and surface differences this seems to be clearly humanized and sized instead of merely anthro. That makes it more or less a thematic difference. The tone bounces around a lot and doesn't exactly work, but the main issue is the presentation which is full of condensed blocks of text (chapter 1) or chunks of dialogue and description mixed in (chapters 2-3). The prose itself could use some work, but at the same time descriptions and the action make little sense sometimes - particularly chapter 2. Though one thing was the narration about crying until she passed out from dehydration... I can understand an unreliable narrator idea, but if she's such a problem why would she have a phone or be allowed to contact others? Generally, isolation and being cut off would be the norm in such facilities. In some ways, things do not make sense, but then if the narrator is unreliable I do not know if this is the intention of showing that.
