Crossposted onFFN/AO3/SB/SV. The fic also has aDiscordif anyone is interested!

Plenty of light-hearted moments and slice-of-life, but there are also darker themes, plots, and tones mixed in especially in later arcs. There is some violence, but nothing too graphic.

This an amazing and refreshing story!!!  Please, don’t do like the rest of the good Pokémon fan fiction and go into hiatus. (Due to the word requirement:  I love the premise of the story.  How it isn’t the stereotypical going on a journey story.  I’ve always wanted a Pokémon game where I could create and build my own gym.)

Full disclosure, I have no lifed this story (around 750 pages at time of writing) in a single day and it is currently 2:54am, I will be getting up for work at 7:00am a very tired man. If there had been anything left to read I would have continued without hesitation. I regret nothing. Read at your own risk.
When a story this good with this much content ready to go currently has only 155 followers it is nothing short of criminal. Pokemon fan fics tend to be popular on this site and I can only imagine this will explode in popularity in the future to take it’s deserved place among some of the greats.
If you enjoy pokemon fan fics, rest assured that this is top tier stuff and give it a shot.

I have REALLY been loving this fic so far! I first started reading it on FFN but moved over to RR because I prefer the formatting more here.
If you're looking for a lighthearted read, I'd recommend this one. There's plenty of warmhearted slice of life moments with seeds of tension sown here and there... which will inevitably explode in the future, and it's exciting to think about.
What I love best is probably how this features an OC instead of a Isekai'd character or SI. I enjoy reading stories featuring the latter, but having an OC is such a breath of fresh air. There's just the right amount of mystery and tension in between lighthearted moments since the MC doesn't know everything going on. The author's already stated that they are taking their own spin on things, so I'm looking forward to how the conflict with a certain criminal organization gradually unfolds. I have so many predictions and theories already it's crazy.
The few high level battles so far have been well-written, too. So many times I've dropped a story before because the battles were so... unrealistic with the way they yelled out "Dodge!" every time, or the bland way they said X move hit X Pokemon without any description. This fic does not do that. Battles flow well.
I haven't had any major complaints about the story so far. Maybe the pacing is a bit slow sometimes? But I don't hate it. There are fun moments between the characters that make it worth it.
Aight, that's enough outta me. I just wanted to show my appreciation for this fic that's made working a 9 to 5 job more bearable.
To the author: I want to thank you for writing the story and publishing it. It's a fun idea you've come up with, and I can't wait to read more. Take all the breaks you need to not burn out.

In the wide world of Pokemon fanfic, this story has found a remarkably original niche and filled it with aplomb. Rather than a young child or a self-insert, Arin Watanuki is a fully-grown adult who has lived his entire life in the world of Pokemon, and brings with him an appropriately interesting viewpoint as he settles down to take care of his home gym after years of journeying. Fans of Hard Enough will find similar themes on the importance of caring for and defending a community, as well as additional themes on the importance of tradition versus progress and growing into someone who isn’t what your parents expected. I wholeheartedly recommend that you read this story if you have any love for Pokemon at all.

I had a lot of fun reading it, I was worried how the story would go with a trainer starting with a full pokemon team but it worked out well. Character development is good, and I like where the story is headed. Very enjoyable read. I'm caught up so hopefully the author comes back from hiatus. (:

The unique premise compared to other pokemon fanfiction, and the writing style makes it a joy to read. I just caught up after binge reading for a few days and I'm so excited to see where things go. The author is brilliant at weaving in hints and mysteries. This is a story I will follow as long as it keeps updating.

To start things off, this is my first-ever review. This story warranted it.
This fiction started off strong. There was no need to wait for the real nitty gritty plot points to showcase themselves after slogging through a story everyone who has ever read Pokemon fics before knows of---The beginnings of a journey.
Instead, we are graced with an accomplished individual.
Style: I have very few nit-picky complaints about the style. The interludes showcasing online media, being one. They didn't really affect the story, and I felt there wasn't a need for them. Maybe they just weren't for me.
Grammar: No complaints at all. I did not find a single grammar mistake or a sentence that I felt read poorly. Everything flowed smoothly and was perfectly fine.
Story: Best part of any story is the substance of the story itself. While there are other Fairy Type specialist fanfics out there, this one does it differently. The MC had a finely plotted goal, aspirations, and motivations. My one gripe about the actual substance of the story was that I felt that the difficulties between MC and his father were much, much too easily undone. One does not simply abandon a 10-year-old child, then ask them to come back a decade later and boom. Everything is fine now. I understand why it happened the way it did, as the plot needed to progress, but it felt forced or rushed in my personal opinion.
Character: All the side characters presented are believable, have their own defining characteristics, and feel alive. Most of them are familiar ones from the Pokemon universe, but there are also new ones for this story in particular. (at least, I think so? I'm not 100% certain on that.) Again, I only have one slight issue, and it's with the MC. It feels... I don't even know how to properly word it, but I guess it feels stilted. There are sudden shifts in demeanor when certain characters show up. Maybe it's because we don't know too much about MC's past, but sometimes he just feels like. 'The grown up, more m

TL;Dr: I'd recommend this in the same breath as Hard Enough, Ungilded, or March Hare, even though (or maybe because) it is not an isekai like those.
Full review, hopefully not too rambling:
This is a great Pokéfic. It's comfortable and warm and fun, hitting a lot of the fantastical and wholesome vibes of the franchise. It features a well-traveled MC that can claim experience with the whole breadth of game generations, which scratches the power fantasy itch like a reincarnator would, but it is not an isekai, which sidesteps a lot of the problems with that trope.
The start is a little mid in my opinion (it seems just a little too easy for MC to reintegrate into his childhood home and repair all the broken relationships there), but in critical terms that's really just the necessary device to get him into position for the main plot to happen. Once he's settled in, though, I think the story definitely hits its stride.
The choice of Fairy type is neat: as a grumpy old fan I've always had mixed feelings about it (get off my lawn, etc), but MC here definitely makes it look cool and mystical and strong. And it easily enables him to be a bit of a wildcard in the stodgy traditionalist land of Johto, so it's thematically a great choice for this kind of city-building(?) story.

Alright, so, I'm gonna start with the good- everything about the writing.  On a technical level, this story is excellent.  The prose is excellent, and overall that's enough to keep me coming back, especially because despite the low score I gave character, the dialogue is fun and interesting.  The early interaction with his father in particular came across as suitably real and dramatic.
As far as story and character... Well, the problem is exactly one problem.  The main character.  He starts the story as a champion level trainer on a first name basis with, at a guess, easily more than half the named characters in the Pokemon series.
I get it.  He's been up to stuff before, and I quite like the concept behind building up a gym from nothing.  But his entire history is just glossed over, when it should be an entire story unto itself.  It really undercuts a lot of the tension in the problems he faces when his support network is so large and his team so powerful.
If the idea of what is, being fair, atleast half way to a Gary Stu- albeit at most times an uncommonly well written one- as a main character doesn't bother you too much, you can find stuff to like, and I'll gladly be reading alongside you.  But go in forewarned.

I was excited to read this when I saw the good reviews because Pokémon fanfictions are a guilty pleasure of mine. Immediately off the bat there was some glaring holes with the world building that really irked me but I glossed over it because I assumed it was just set up, but it kept popping up again and again. Right off the bat Arin the MC gets a text from his estranged father of 10 years and asks him to come home. Currently Arin is halfway across the world in Paldea and his dad is back in Johto. Then we learn that what the author has dubbed The Kinjoh region(Kanto/Johto/Hoenn/Sinnoh) is cutoff from the rest of the world and outside of Unova they don't even know exists, and Unova refuses to communicate with them at all. I thought it would stop with just the text but it didn't. Besides his Dad somehow figuring out his number, the fact that they could communicate when there should be no technological connection to facilitate it at all exists. Then the phone calls start with all the important trainers in Paldea and all the other new gen regions and even internet communications. Also global banking when he needed money he only had in the other regions, like even if they all used same currency the regions don't know they exist and have no communications how can they send it. Then the fairy gym leaders transferring Pokémon to him as well. What makes this lack of void of communication worse, somehow Paldea and Kalos/Unova/Galar/Aloha all can get TV/Internet/News from Kinjoh no problem when they don't even know they exist??? Especially in a world where the Porygon line exists for cyber security even if they knew they existed and had a connection to the region they would know about it. This is my biggest issue with the story but there are others.
Back to the start of the story we get Arin and his dad. Yeah people can forgive others like that but it's rare. My problem was it was like Arin flipped a switch and all was forgiven instantly and the conflict with his dad which exil
