I don't often do reviews, but this is one of the better books I have read.
Feels like a crazy apocalypse with very good characters.
    Nice humour.
Beware, there are a lot of time skips which is what makes it possible to be a completed book.
    9.5/10 great book.
    words to fill review length

The start of the story throws you right in. At first I thought it was rushed, thinking that the 'system' was being glossed over, but I was wrong. Read a little further and you reaize that the story doesn't revolve around that aspect of a 'gaming' story. Because it's not that kind of story. Right from the start this story is breaking free from the expectations of it's genre and I love it.
When the author said 'Dark Humor' they weren't kiding, but it's integrated flawlessly. Think less south park, and more bob's burgers (But without the crazy). So essentially it's light enough that you're not looking for some saritonin afterwards, but heavy enough to speak to that dark part of you that enjoys these end of the world novels.
The reason I said the humor was done flawlessly, is because of the characters, and their tone. I couldn't help equating these characters to some well known tv shows, not because they are the same, but because it's hard to describe them without using the term two demensional. Usually that term is an insult, but in this case the depth of the characters is almost neccesary to balance the dark untertone and the humor that lays on top of it. Instead of trying to force the humor, as many people do by using an over analaytical MC with with a snarky comment, the author opts to dumb his characters down just enough for others characters to come in and fill the gap. Add in that this is suppose to be from the perspective of younger teenagers, and you realize that the tone is on point. They are allowed to make mistakes, and bad jokes, while also having moments of genius ideas, because that's how teenagers are. Even the adults have this film of color over them that doesn't make you feel angry at them, but realize their bad choices are more a reflection of their character.
As for the chapter structures themselves. I noticed that the start and end of the chapters are like that of a book, (not a bad thing seeing as really that's where most of us want to go) and flow

It's quite a fun rump that I just binged to completion over the last 24 hours.  The writing gets better with every chapter showing the growth of the author.  Spelling and Grammar are top notch.
I really enjoyed how you have created so many different characters with very different personalities.  Not easy to pull off.
The story was quite fun and funny as well.
I will keep reading anything you write.

The story itself is pretty straight forward. Start of with the world being absorbed into a system. Then, giving the 'players' choices to be what they want to be.
Personally, this story could have been made into a longer book, but the MC and his surrounding characters are pretty straight strong when they are progressing further into their powers.
It's interesting take on how to build a game like world that's part murdering trope and part super powered heroes. Not much statistics to start off with, but plenty of sarcastic descriptions to go with each status display 😂.
By the end of this story, it would be too cringey to make the MC any more powerful compared to others. The time skip from each timeline is probably quite necessary but perhaps others would be quite displeased with how fast the storyline progress.
Overall, this story has a dash of Litrpg in, gold old heroic and stupid characters, some actions thrown in, plenty of system mumbo jumbo, and OP MC.
It could be stretched further with how the progression shaped each survivors, but I believe this story has its own niche into itself. Good enough but not too flashy for it to be noticeable by the masses.
I hope to read more stories inside this universe if the author can deign to write another one.
    Cheers.

Welcome to the Apocalypse is a overall engaging read, I binged it in a day or two.  I've read jman8763's other story Leo's Return, and there are quite a few similarities between the two works.
Jman appears to enjoy male teen MC's to begin and set them to impossible tasks vs implacable and quixotic alien adversaries.  Ian, our MC in Welcome to the Apocalypse is dropped in the middle of the night into a system integration inputted by an Alien super-civilization.  He is forced to choose a group of skills to fight off alien monsters without any understanding of the stakes.  Obviously, he assumes he's having a bizarre dream and chooses a foolish set of options.  The story takes off from there, but without any real concrete backstory explaining the reason and purpose of the integration.
BG, the system AI is hilarious but also confusing and haphazard.  There is also occasionally a mention that "alien missionaries" had arrived on Earth prior to the integration and had been nuked in Africa, a set of affairs passed off as a global "racist" attack that would be more offensive if it had been further fleshed out in the world building.  But the lack of any concrete attempt to tie in this weird and offensive backstory element to anything happening within the actual plot makes it fairly irrelevant.
BG's motives and operations are opaque, and despite a few discussions of why the system does what it does, they are never really explored.  I'd say that is one of the two main weaknesses of this story.  The world building feels incredibly half-finished, like jman8763 understands more about the world than they bother putting in the text, so stuff that is obvious to the characters goes unexplained to the reader.  It makes for some very confusing dialog, especially combined with all the massive timeskips the author enjoys using, skipping forward many years at the beginning of a chapter and then bouncing back to the main chronology.
That said, this story is funny and tragic at the same time.
