This novella had a lot of strengths, and I found myself genuinely invested in the main character’s story. The concept of a wizard detective who can absorb people into his mind is both unique and intriguing. My favorite character is Junette. She has a unique voice. The scenes were very descriptive. It felt like I was there in person. The story has good tensions and the cliffhangers at the end of each chapters were outstanding. It makes you want know what’s going to happen next. Equal parts mystery, suspense, and psychological tension. I loved how the plot kept twisting. I’m hooked and can’t wait to see what really happened to Nina and how deep this conspiracy goes.
The author’s voice is strong, and their ability to convey emotion and develop characters in so few words is truly impressive.
The writing was clean and expressive. I wanna learn more about the main character’s wife death. I absolutely loved this novella. From the very first page, I felt like I was pulled into a world I didn’t want to leave. Overall, I would say this novella is a strong foundation for a potentially longer work. I’d happily read more by this author and would love to see this story expanded. Highly recommended.

Okay, this book is absolutely insane in the best way possible! You've got Ludwig, an ex-wizard trainee turned PI who's hunting his wife's killer. But here's the crazy part - he absorbs dying people's life force AND has a Vodou Mambo's consciousness stuck in his head. Like, she's literally sharing brain space with him and they work together. How cool is that?
The premise alone sold me, but the execution is even better. Ludwig using his absorption powers for detective work is genius. Every time he uses his ability, you get these intense moments where he's gaining knowledge but also dealing with this other person in his head commenting on everything. The banter between him and the Mambo is pure gold.
The missing husband case drives the plot forward at breakneck speed. There's this ticking clock element that keeps you on edge - they have to find this guy before it's too late. Meanwhile, Ludwig's personal quest for his wife's killer lurks in the background, adding emotional depth to everything.
The blend of wizard magic and Vodou is fantastic. You don't see that combo often and it creates such a unique magic system. The noir detective vibe mixed with supernatural elements hits perfectly.
Seriously, if you want something different from your usual urban fantasy, this is it. Total page-turner!

I love detective stories, but Daniel's tale turns it on its ear with magical spells, creatures, and beings.  The story kept me hooked all the way through with the twists and turns.  But the best part was the interactions between Ludwig and the other characters.  I was cracking up one moment and worried the next.
