Personally, most of the fictions tagged with harem that I see on this site have female romance interests who are paper thin, fall in love or lust immediately, and then do whatever the male lead wants. Refreshingly, this seems to be going in another direction!
STYLE
The style of this fiction is great! It's easy to understand, and I never felt confused about where scenes were happening, or what was going on. A great balance of depicting the scenes vs. moving the plot along.
GRAMMAR
Saw no issues with grammar.
STORY
So far, I think it is paced well. It takes its time to establish characters, the setting, and explore the initial state of the cast. Where I am at right now in the story, not enough of the main plot has come along to make much comment on that, but I look forward to seeing how it changes things.
CHARACTER
Not too many characters in the story yet, but they are quite enjoyable so far. They are distinct, and each clearly have some possible plot threads to explore as time goes on. Given that the story is a slice of life, I expect it will rely heavily on character interactions, explorations of their pasts and futures, and developing relationships. I think the author has done a good job so far of setting up a solid base for these kinds of developments, and it has a lot of potential.
I've learned to generally avoid the harem tag on Royal Road, but this is shaping up to be more of a sweet youths-navigating-romance type story, and I look forward to it! - Robert CruikshankRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Oddity piles upon oddity. Few explanations are given, at least in the first ten chapters--my advice is to just roll with it and enjoy the ride.
The story is starting out at a slow, comfortable pace. The characters are memorable and interesting. There are very few grammar and spelling mistakes. The writing style is clear and the story flows more smoothly than the plot would suggest. I am hooked and will continue reading. Recommended! - The CommentatorRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Excellent story! I tend to dislike romance as a genre, but this is making me second guess my biases. I also want to clarify that these are all good scores, despite how four stars may come across as bad. It really isn't; I'm just trying to make this review as accurate as I possibly can (in my opinion), and five stars is reserved for true masterpieces.
Now, for Style and Grammar. The Style is very distinctive, and the Grammar is almost completely flawless, with the only mistakes being very small spelling and technical ones. Nothing that breaks the immersion, which is nice. The only reason the Grammar doesn't also get five stars is that that score is reserved for truly flawless grammar.
The reason the story is ranked comparatively low to everything else is that, so far, there hasn't been much of a story revealed. There is a mystery and this is a slice of life, which is why the score is four stars and not two and a half, but there isn't much beyond that (yet).
The characters, on the other hand, are excellent! They all have varying personalities that are clearly the focus, and the reactions are incredibly realistic. These people are both very nice and very true to life. It's quite nice to read.
This story is seriously making me reconsider my opinion on the romance genre, at least a little bit. I don't think I'll instantly discard stories in that genre anymore, at least. - prissiRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Generally, having a harem tag would be a red flag for me. So far these were wish fulfilling stories with barely a plot beyond getting more lovers.
This one is as different as it could be. Despite the title, a first kissing does not happen until chapter 36 and then not even out of love. Still, the weird life at Otter Manor in some timeless future setting (but could be even the 70ies without much change) is very entertaining and the quirks of it's inhabitants could feed an army of therapists (and their therapists). However, they try to work it out alone.
It is slice of life, short chapters, entertaining and ideal for a short commute per chapter.
Very few errors. Maybe a little too many changes of POV. And no epic depth, good story popcorn.
