We Were Moss

What makes a consciousness? They have been here for eons, or maybe minutes. How do you track time when you are nothing but a patch of moss, slowly spreading through a system of caverns? They know they were instilled with a purpose. They know know that someone, somewhere, is expecting them to succeed. But again, what is a consciousness? This is something The Moss will have to figure out in order to survive all those beings that encroach upon their domain.
