A wanderer stumbles uponthe City of Wizards on the day they celebrate their triumph over their tyrant gods and watches the view with an old wizard.
A 4th of July fireworks-inspired short story, set in a world where gods are plentiful and sometimes they die.
Cover image is an awful photo of part of the inspiring fireworks show in question.

- RznRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This was a really good short story that has enough worldbuilding, character development and magic to keep the reader engaged. It has a good beginning and a solid ending which counts for a lot given how compact and effective the prose is. A complex history is hinted at and yet it does not get bogged down in the backstory of the war or how even after all this time it impacts the lone survivor. Instead, it is welcoming and sweet. This is well worth reading.
- javertRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's fun to see shorter works on RR-- this was neat. I love the description of the fireworks, and the hints of a larger world. Would love to see more but this definitely works as a little standalone piece :)
I like the reveal that the devout main character has been having a conversation with a god-slayer-- i think really pushing the drama of that could add to the story
