- Apollo149Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Warrior Adrift is the story of CAL, an android fighter. With his vast array of tech gadgets and weapons, he fights for the good of the common people. Without his memories, and alone save for his Damaged Ship A.I. CAL has spent his days protecting the nearby villages from the equally stranded band of pirates and raiders as they lead a crusade of pillaging and devastation against the planet's inhabitants.
Character: This has been the most impressive part of me. One of the strengths of this story is the mystery around the main character and the world in general. The mysterious main character setup can promise an interesting character story and development. CAL, the mysterious warrior, adventurer, and village protector. His relationships with the village elder, his recently strengthening peers, and even his ship's AI make him a complex character.
Style: The style for the most part has a good amount of description and compliments the pacing of the story very well. The strength of the story is the gradual reveal of the intricacies of worldbuilding that at first sight may be underestimated. The writing style is incredibly engaging and easy to read. There are lots of vivid descriptions and moments that bring the world to life. The dialogue between characters is natural.
Grammar: Like the style, it does the job and there are no glaring issues. I saw perhaps two or three very minor grammatical issues. Nothing that wrecks the story. The author also seems responsive to feedback, which is always great to see
Overall: The story was fun and refreshing. The main character is the strongest part of the story by far. The Warrior Adrift is an excellent cyberpunk novel that is sure to delight. The story is well-written, the characters are well-developed, and the world is fascinating. I would recommend Warrior Adrift to anyone searching for a fun read. - Sam SerakawaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Atm it's a story about a mysterious humanoid mech who woke up in the ruins and cares/is cared for a tribe he treats like family on a planet plagued by mysterious beasts and space pirates. In his bio the author describes wanting to create a universe and he's already succeeded.
Style -
The way characters speak is mostly distinct, which is a plus. Cal the Warrior is almost constantly fighting in these early chapters so if you like battle and action, this webnovel has it in spades.
Story -
As noted, love the dynamics of having pirates, tribals, and a mechwarrior all in one place. Almost gives me a rimworld like feel.
It seems like he's heading for a facedown with the space pirates - wiping out the lieutenants and the ringleader, fighting on air, land, and inside the spaceships themselves.
Grammar - Some minor mistakes but nothing that takes me out of the story. There's a spacing error in one chapter, for example.
Character score -
I'm intrigued by CAL, the mysterious warrior, adventurer, and village protector. His relationships with the village elder, his recently strengthening peers, and even his ship's AI make him a complex character.
If you like space stories be sure to take a look at Warrior Adrift. - keeganashleyliveRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like this one. There's something very epic-feeling about the entire thing. The world, as it's introduced, is vast and well-constructed, and each chapter seems to start with a paragraph or two describing more of it in a sort of overhead-view---something I would definately credit to the author's use of style. Nicely done.
The storyline drew me in more and more. I feel like it's going huge places. It has this overall movie-on-the-big-screen vibe, and I feel like the conflict is only going to escalate as it moves on. There's also an intense amount of action which really yanks you straight into the world and plot.
I really enjoy the main character CAL. There's something very endearing about him---maybe just his overall want to do good...or maybe he's relatable in the fact that he sometimes has these funny quips...I'm not sure, but I enjoyed it. The other characters, I feel, will definately grow with how much we know of them in the future so I just took off maybe a half point for the fact that all that is still buidling but a phenomenal job still, and it doesn't affect my overall view and rating of the story.
Grammar is great. The style is good. I like the good mix of realistic dialoge and discriptive elements. Really nicely done. If you're on the fence about reading, give it a go! :D - WintydunnoRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Warrior Adrift is the story of CAL, an android fighter. With his vast array of tech gadgets and weapons, he fights for the good of the common people. The fights are rich with description and action, with feats of acrobatics and cunning. A classic scifi action hero novel
There is a lot of love and excitement put into the work, held back by inconsistent mixing of past and present tense. With some more careful editing I believe it can be great and the authors vision will shine. - StrahdsillystrawRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Warrior-adrift seems to be a self discovery sort of journey about the Bio-droid CAL, and thus far has already been full of action, future foreshadowing, and wonderful interpersonal relationships. Grammatically I've seen very few issues, and the sentences flow decently well together for a superb combination. The names and descriptions of unrealistic technology were all apt and I didn't get that weird jolt out of immersion I get when someone goes too overboard with that. My only real complaint so far is CAL himself, I had a hard time relating, empathizing, or understanding what sort of person he is. His attitude jumps around a bit and I had a hard time grasping his personality. That said, He is a robot and that could be the intention. CAL could develop immensely past this point, or we could get more of an explantion for his erraticism. I also had a few irks in regards to the dimensionality of the side characters, it felt like he was simply adding more to make an environment for CAL out of them. The interactions with these characters did feel real, however and as long as they're given some love later I'll have no complaints. I enjoyed what I read, and at the very least reccomend reading until around chapter 5-6 before you make any hard decisions.
