- Mister BillRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a fun story and very much worth a read. It's post-apocalyptic and the MC uses guns, although "cold weapons" are still useful in this world.
Not many mistakes made with grammar or spelling and it's an action packed story so far. Looks to be base building here and there as well as a rough and tumble MC with guns.
Give it a read! - BarnyBoyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I like a good combination of guns and magic, so this story is right up my alley. The MC is tough and out to bring a little sanity to an otherwise insane world and he looks to be pulling the rest of Winslow along with him. It is an interesting and well written tale so far. The author is putting out the chapters regularly and often. I cannot wait to see what is going to happen next.
- GravestoneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So as I've said before I hate giving reviews but I love this story.
Style: So far its been good. Good Foreshadowing no glaring plot holes. Mix of First-person for the MC and Third person for secondary characters.
Story: starts off typically system apocalypse then becomes starts to feel more like a real accounting. The darker parts of an apocalypse story are usually skipped over or white washed. Not here. While some might say its unnecessary or over the top it really does capture how depraved and messed up people would get.
Grammar: Great so far little misspellings or errors.
Characters: best part. They feel real to me and that's hard to do. The author really has a gift for making his characters fleshed out. MC Secondary and villains all feel real as you read it. Their problems and personalities coming thru clearly. You might not like a certain character but so far everyone is acting like real people with atleast to them real reasons and not cutout characters to be inserted and killed off. Karl may be my favorite MC in this kind of story. He might not be the best person but he's who you want when it hits the fan.
All in all a great story. And as an added bonus the people who do horrible things to others have horrible things done to them. - TelRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The basic premise is fairly standard.....system apocalypse.
Normally it is played high fantasy and fairly light, but oh boy does the Warlord of Winslow earn the GrimDark tag. It's the end of the world and all the wrong people have just been empowered, so of course it's an illustration of bad to worse to OMG I BEG YOU STOP.
The writing however is pretty good but I would really only recommend reading this one if you are in a bit of a mood, and looking for a brutal story that works the dark side without pulling punches.
People get mauled, good people die painfully, bad people die often very quickly and painfully after some good person dies horribly, and bystanders innoccent or not get mowed down like tall grass on a sunday morning.
It's not writ in kindness and rainbows, it is a very realistic/gore/grimdark system apocalypse. - AlexCyberHeartRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0its is good so far the only issue is i can't find these chapters anywhere does anyone have some link or private copies that can be read? as long as the author doesn't mind that is. other than that i would say this is a pretty decent read thus far
- MDMANNRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0A decent story.
This is pretty standard fare, that's well told. The MC is a prison warden who survives the initial RPG apocalypse then conquers his local area and makes alliances with diaspora of various incoming non humans who've arrived from worlds that have been unsuccessful in integrating with the system and managing dungeons within those worlds. The protagonist is nicely grey in their morality but enemies tend to be a touch one stroke villains. Beyond antagonists, characterisation is solid with different voices for each character. Still a nice bout of escapism.
The story contains a fair amount of base development together with the basic militarism, simple politics and adventures. The system is straightforward. Advanced technology, alien races and fantasy civilisations mix in disharmony.
One personal dislike is the introduction of a future where we see some results of current actions rather than discovering them as time progresses. Apart from that, a solid story.
Updates are two or three times weekly and chapters are of a decent length. The point of view concentrates on the MC but switches occasionally to other characters, without detracting from the central protagonist.
Spelling, grammar and punctuation are fairly solid with the odd typo creeping in.
A decent story that's well worth having a look, without being essential reading. - JacksaunRoyal Road★★★ 3.0So far MC is a veteran who let themself go, living in a ratty motel and when the system suddenly pops up - he has a lot of guns, and a lot of problems. Most of the problems are solved with his guns. He isn't a "bad guy" per say, but don't expect anything good from him either and it seems so far he leans more towards the evil end of the spectrum.
Grammar is good, and plot seems to be the typical start so far (kill monsters, get some people, start safe zone, etc). Lotta characters are dying really quick, and at this point there isn't much development for anyone but I haven't gone too far in so take that with a grain of salt.
This story gives me a lot of questions that haven't really been answered yet, and I am at a point where I am not interested in reading more to find out. Some of these questions are - example A) he is using ammo like it's nobody's business but even after quite some time he hasn't thought about where to get more - ammo is a finite supply and unless people figure out how to make more in the apocalypse his entire build is screwed, example B) why is he in a motel in butcrack nowhere with like a dozen guns and $hit tons of ammo, like guns & ammo are not cheap yet he has enough to make a middle class gunnut blush, example C) why is this called "warlord of winslow" when his class is "outlaw" AKA someone who is not big on authority - that's like making a story called "everyday life of a dentist" and the plot being about a person magically giving people cavities.
There are a few personal problems with the story as well, real world political situations and topics have been brought up (nothing in depth, but it's very blatent) so if you don't enjoy reading a story with those popping up then beware as MC has some very loud opinions on this.
But my biggest problem with the story, is the fact that MC is a 40+ year old man and is making lovey dovey eyes at a young girl who is literally described as, and I quote "Maybe 18, but probably not". It seems so far that th - OrphicleRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Book starts off following the mc when system is introduced. Hes not a good guy and doesn't really have a moral compass or empathy. He's pretty bitter about life too. With the system it turns into a shootout with his obsession with guns. Some heavily conservative ideas as present. Not my thing but it's decent
- DarthFatassRoyal Road★★ 1.5The villainous protagonist tag should be removed and the multiple protagonists tag should be added.
Also the main character isn't really the main character, Alyssa and Johnny seem to be the actual MCs
The "MC" is a pushover, when they raided goblin encampment Alyssa and Johnny got the most loot and the little loot that the "MC" got, he gave pretty much all of it away to them. If that doesn't tell you how much of a wimpy pushover he is then I dont know what will.
The "MC" got the most useless skills ever, he got firearms and skills to complement them, yet Alyssa who is a melee fighter can rack up kills faster than him, that's just embarrassing. - alcelaphinaeRoyal Road★★ 1.5when you have already readed pretty much novel, you would find that same things happening and happening in most of novels. I got bored in 3 chapters and this could be seem to you injust that i give low score for 3 chapter but it isnt.
First 3 chapters are just carbon copy of any other "earth joined the system" type of novel. Info dump, character reading through his/her STATUS.
Let me give a constructive criticism, you dont have to start from "earth joined.." you could start the novel from where earth already joined and insead of 3 chapters of info dump, we (readers) could explore the rules slowly with events you know... i cant waste my precious time for hope it gets better or something original, i prefer to cut the sh*t if its first 3 chapter carbon copy of thousands of novels out there. Sorry.
