Description
Follow four adventurers through their journeys and trials in an ever growing High Fantasy LitRPG world!
Over FIFTEEN HUNDRED PAGES as of September 2025!
Bandits haunt the trade roads.
Monsters stalk the dark woods.
The fallen and the depraved prey on the poor of the slums.
The Realm faces countless threats, and its heroes are few and far between.
That must change.
In a single day, a series of fateful events change the lives of four youths forever. Though they have little in common - from the courtborn Oliver to the streetborn Allana; from Tenebres, fleeing the horrors of his past, to Cadence, seeking a bright new tomorrow - these four may just have the chance to be the heroes the Realm needs.
But only should they take the first steps down a new road - the road of adventure, the road of freedom.
The road of Wanderborn.
Inspired by Codex Alera, Mistborn, He Who Fights with Monsters, and a lifetime of devouring fantasy novels and shonen anime, Wanderborn is a multi-PoV, high fantasy LitRPG, written by a queer author, featuring queer characters, for everyone to enjoy.
New releases every Monday and Friday, patrons are 6 weeks ahead of the public release!
All covers made by the wonderful artists at Miblart! Covers 4 and 5 are currently pending completion.

- rycudaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A work built on its detailed characters. Each one of them flawed in their own ways and capable of making mistakes in keeping with their character. Each a person with some depth and that depth increasing as who and why they are is explored over time. Individual people with their own backgrounds that actually influence their knowledge and abilities even their perspectives on the world!
Combat that is well choreographed and detailed, yet without dragging the pace down with multi chapter fights. Each of the protagonists and their companions have different styles and approaches to encounters that grant variety and help depend the flavour of the setting and the perks within it.
Plot threads with hints that pay off. Connections that mean something rather than springing out of nowhere. Some subtlety still present rather than just leading the reader around by the nose. Little hints of world building that accumulate over time eventually becoming satisfying payoffs they leave you thirsting to see more of the world woven between the characters.
I am thoroughly hooked on this and eagerly awaiting each new chapter to see what new details of the story, or the participants within it are too be revealed this time. - CampaspeLlamicornRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a fascinating world, with compelling queer characters and lots of moving pieces. Like most high fantasy, it's a bit slow to start, but once it winds up, oh my. I am especially enjoying Cadence's arc, but seeing all the characters grow and meet up is very cool. The magic system is interesting and not too number focussed, neither restrictive nor Deus ex machina. Something big is brewing in this world, and we are slowly learning the edges of it.
- DiyceRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Currently 3 Chapters into book 2
I've read quite a lot of stories online, on a few websites. Only three other times in 18 years of reading stories online have I ignored every update to other stories I've followed to focus exclusively on a single story, have that story sit in my mind, and stay with me. This story is the fourth.
The characters have depth to them, they are written like people with complex feelings and emotions. The story has wonderful pacing. In book one we went through a solid few months while the characters learned lessons and adjusted to new situations that pushed them to grow as people.
This is a story of growth, a wonderful take on a coming of age story, and I'm looking forward to falling their tale. - Luccio3Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really really polished writing! Higher quality than many published litrpg novels.
Fairly light on the system side so infrequent status updates with levels or anything of that nature.
Highly recommend and hope to see it published with an audiobook!
Cadence/Caden is my favorite... 50 word minimums take more than it seems like it should - Rorrim3Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0A note from the person who wrote this review having come to the end of the review and come back to the top to leave a note: this review is long but not well written. I don’t do a great job of getting my thoughts across and mostly just say things that happen in the story. It is more or less just someone talking about a book that excites them for a few thousand words, whoops.
Hello this review will have several spoilers possibly major ones I’m not entirely sure how to write a review, I see it as writing my thoughts on a book and I don’t believe I will be able to put across my thoughts without spoilers so if that has potential to bother you and if you have not read up to the chapter it displayed that I had read up to at the time of posting here’s the cliff notes. I have given this book a five star review because I really enjoy reading it. If you enjoy fantasy adventure stories then you will most likely enjoy reading it too.
Introduction:
Hello! I have been reading this book for a while I believe back when I started there was only one chapter with Tenebris in it. I stuck with the story and I am very happy with my decision to do so because reading this book brings me joy and happiness. I reviewed the book in its previous form but kept putting off doing it on this one but now the cast have all met up it seems like a good time.
This book at least so far tells the story of four people from different walks of life gaining magical powers they then meet up with each other and decide to become adventurers. When written like that it seems like that description could be many, many books but I have never seen the concept attacked like this before.
Style: 5/5
Style on Royal Road refers to how a story is written and flows, this story has four main characters which I suspect makes managing the flow of the book significantly more difficult than normal because it means jumping large spans of physical distance to different characters who don’t know one another exist. So every jump you w - Adrian DreadRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is such an amazing read I’m so hooked on everything it’s just so lovely. I love our little group of dorky queer adventures and I can’t wait to see how their stories end. I love Olivia so much she’s adorable if a little stuffy at times and then there’s allana who’s so self assured half the time and an edgy mess the other half (I love edgy characters) and tenebres our lovely little twink watching him balance his dark gift and nerd out over his magic is so fun and interesting and let’s not forget our Swiss Army knife caden(ce) they’re always so cheerful but watching the world start to drag them down as they see more and more of the powers at be and the horrors that inhabit it is so captivating
- Quite Possibly A CatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a very good story. Four different MCs all of which behave like reasonable people. A neat power system, no overpowered Mary Sue types either.
The story doesn't dive immediately into crazy action territory, but does not have a long excessive grinding phase.
Overall this is a great well balanced story! - ResidentCyborgRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Wanderborn is a delightful story of young, queer adventurers coming to know themselves and each other as they foil a magical plot in a dangerous land.
It’s everything I wanted in a fantasy story when I was young, and reading it as an adult is a pleasure.
The setting, the magic, the plot, and the characters are all wonderfully done. It’s one of my favorite series, on and off Royal Road.
I can’t wait to buy the books when they’re inevitably published!
updating the review after the last chapters dropped: excellent all the way through! Still stand by what I said - maxie12Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Really interesting read. The changing of characters so quickly at the start is a little rough, but they do blend in well and expose the worlds in different ways. They slowly start aligning on paths as well, but don't expect this to be very soon when you start reading.
The world is quite nice, having an interesting concept of magic that is well thought out, and it's definitely one of those books that I will be excited for to see a new chapter come out. - Minato SanineRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Hello and welcome adventurers
You can come to read at all hours
Obviously I'm not Storyteller
But I have binged well enough
To tell you that waiting is gonna
be rough.
Have you heard about Sanderson
A crazy author this person
But Nat_Ten has the same skill :
Thread the plot with meaning and thrill.
So don't worry if it's a bit long
A symphony needs more than one song
World and character in their queer way
Will make you wander and wonder all day !
