- milkman7121Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a phenomenally unhinged villainess fic. This is also plot-beat-by-plot-beat a copy of another fic I had at some point read and dropped. Is this the author returning to an old story after honing their craft? Is it just “I can do this better than you?” I don’t know. I do know it’s much better. Read it.
- R3ader1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Loved the story! Caught up to the current chapter 31, and I can't say that the early momentum diminished whatsoever. The story is still ramping up, but I loved the ride so far!
The narrative style wonderfully personifies the MC's slightly wacky mentality. The plot is thick and fast paced, but carefully balances that pacing with spots of world-building. Honestly, I'd prefer a few of the scenes were drawn out a bit more (b-day dinner, Daniel scenes, the church), but the swift cut-offs to some scenes does serve to drive the pacing ever-forward.
The only real critic I have is the sudden disappearance of introspective comments from her Earth perspective on how the MC, herself, is changing--and maybe not for the better. This does happen after a certain event, so it might be intentional. Only time will tell.
There's a bit of room for improvement on the alternate POV sections (it's hard not to notice the absence of personality when the MC has so much). Compared to the main narrative, only Marie's chapter really lived up to the same level of storytelling. Zach, Vixen, and Mage Lady all suffered from fairly bland-seeming perspectives by contrast.
I look forward to reading more! - The KingfisherRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0While the story is still in its early stages, it seems to be shaping up to be an interesting take on the reincarnated into a villainess genre. The writing is good and there aren't any major grammatical issues. The characters seem interesting, though the story is still in its early stages so there hasn't been much character development. I would definitely recommend this.
- anonymreader44Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great narration where we really feel like we are in the head of the MC with meaningful change of pov. I am just at the beginning but I can't wait learn more about what is going to happen to the MC. What could go wrong after being blessed by an ominous comet ? Nothing right ???
- FJBRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Okay, let’s just get this out of the way right now- no story on RR has a right to have this kind of beautiful storytelling, like someone’s channeling the spirit of Jane Austen to write litRPG. Yet here we are. Here this story is. The narration is amazing, and I’m hanging on to every word and wanting more.
And that’s not even getting in to how good the story itself is.
Style: Okay, if it wasn’t made abundantly clear already, I really like this story’s style. Its florid without being flowery. Voice counts for a lot with a first-person perspective story, and this one gives the MC so much buttery depth that I’m practically adrift in a... sea... of butter... Okay, I lost the metaphor there. Something that I can say with certainty that this story does not do. It is, to put it plainly, fun to read.
Story: I’m not sure what to call this. Anti-otome? Because it’s not really an otome, other than some reference to the princess’s stable of attractive male companions.
Except that the princess isn’t the main character. Her rival/antagonist/assassin is. Which is who the MC finds herself being thrust into the body of. Suddenly dropped into one’s favorite novel series always sounds fun when it’s as the MC, but not so much when it’s the villainess that got herself killed in volume five. A problem which the newly reborn anti-hero sets about trying to correct as best she can.
Outside of these immediate problems, there is a world in a bit of turmoil itself. Monster invasions are a serious problem, making life near the border dangerous and food scarce. Plus there is a ‘once every ten year’ comet passing overhead, said to bring woe upon the world for those born under its crimson glare.
Taken all together, this story is a perfectly brewing storm. A villainess who doesn’t want to do villainy anymore, trying to figure out how to survive where her previous incarnation failed, along with a learning to use a brand new set of skills and navigate through a world that was never explained to satisf - I am not goingRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5So I usually don't make reviews so "early" because it's not rare for me to be disapointed in the 100's of a serie I thought was really cool, I know authors rely on early reviews but sorry, I can't.
Still, as a fine hypocrit I will use my review to try and bait the author back to this serie.
Well I won't be only praising it but .. Here I go.
To a new reader, I recomend this story, there two things to pay attention to however.
First, the story is currently in hiatus, I hope for a comeback but we never know.
Second, the narration is very unique at first. And for me it was very tedious to get into the story because of that. The voice of the heroine couldn't stop making jokes and metaphors.
The story was interesting from the very start but it was hard to push through the first few chapters, not only did the writing style make it hard for me to keep my focus on the story with a new joke at almost every paragraph, it also made the progress unusually slow.
I'm generally not a fan of pov changes, but they were a true breathe of fresh air in the early stage and probably made the story advance twice as fast.
With time however, the pov of the heroine became easier to read, she still keeps her humor but it's way more direct and progress can be made easily even when following her POV.
The story:
I like it.
Eli is on her way to become a huge badass, at the moment she has an op kit but quite specific.
It might become one of those story with an op character gaining more and more power along the way, bonding with her entourage, protecting those she cares about heroically and flexing over the mean bullies, that is, as long as she can keep herself from killing innocent people.
I can't confirm that it will follow this path yet it just seem like it will, any moment a traumatic event or a way too op enemy might break the "easy going" tone but I hope not.
Usually a story with an "op mc having an easy time" can be a bit weak on certain points and those who enjoy them can be way more forgivin - AmphitriteRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0"Villainess of Crimson" by Mangowo brings a fresh twist to the villainess trope with a protagonist thrust into the lethal shoes of Elidranthia Shadowstep, a master of chaos and assassination. The blend of humor and danger makes this story an entertaining read as the once-ordinary girl struggles to control her new deadly instincts.
Mangowo balances the protagonist’s reluctance with the allure of her new life as a villainess, creating tension between her moral compass and Elidranthia's ruthless tendencies. The result is a fun, action-filled adventure with a side of chaos.
A solid 4-star read for fans of villainess stories and dark humor! - CosmorosRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I've, with great difficulty, started reading this story mostly due to how it's written. Author went for the most absurd way of writing that is on the verge of being a childish novel where most of text is padder. The best example would be "how would you think royalty talks, but in the most childish manner" writing.
Style: This is some derivation of LitRpg where most of it is still unexplained and is missing, where the story is already depends too much on "system magic" to work. So far, in all chapters of the story, your understanding of the system is basically the same as it was at the start: none.
The narration of the story is also all over the place. We have some POVs from other people where the same forms of speech and writing are used, making them one of the same feeling as MC POV. Description of events is even worse. Fight scenes have issues explaining how enemies look, forget about how they act.
Grammar: The writing, it's just weird. The feeling you get from reading the novel is one of as if you went to some royalty cosplay convention where they roleplay in the most cringeworthy manner. The story has no grammatical issues, but the style is heavily depending on your tastes. If you did not like it at the start, it continues the same further on.
Story: It's really slow. From her transmigration to where we are now, barely anything happened of value or plot movement. Most of the skills or training were done on background, so the reader basically had nothing to see for it and what was shown felt artificial and empty. Most of progress feels plot driven rather than character development that happened because of her own actions and choices.
Almost from the start MC gets powerful skills that are given for no other reason than making her OP. But the skills also don't work as something logical and explainable, but system magic they are most of the time.
MC is apparently 9 years old in that world. With time progress we have right now, it will take real time years for a stor
