Description

“Kill your hound once the hunt has ended, lest you one day find its fangs in your neck.”

So goes the quiet law of the Jianghú—a land ruled by blades, betrayal, and blood-bound creeds. Its noble warriors scorn copper and coal, clinging to the purity of the blade and the teachings of the ancients.

But the world is shifting. Contraptions of brass and fire light the streets and shield the weak. To some, they are a blessing. To others, a betrayal.

In the midst of this quiet unraveling, two travelers walk the edge of old and new.

One is a boy, quiet and sharp-eyed, whose spear bears the faded mark of something once beautiful. The weight he carries is older than his years, and heavier than it seems.

The other—tall, quiet, and strange—lumbers about like someone only recently born. A blank mask hides his face; bandages cover every inch of his skin. He stumbles through the world with the strength of a giant and the gentleness of a child, as if trying to learn how to live from the beginning.

They do not speak much of their pasts. Perhaps one remembers too much. Perhaps the other, nothing at all.

Together, they wander through a fractured land, where ghosts wear human faces, and the line between machine and soul grows thinner by the day. Cults whisper of immortality. Empires drown in their own blood. And somewhere between temple and smokestack, two strangers search—without knowing what for.

Not revenge. Not glory.

Something quieter. Something harder to name.

Amazing, I did like the very beginning, and it did take me into the steps as the MC. I do hope you continue, and I do see this take a life of its own, so keep doing what you are doing I see a bright future for this book.

Writing is very descriptive, and has a cinematic flavor to it that I can't describe. This chapter also managed to capture the emotions here too. The symbolism is good as hell, but also in the second half the dialogue consistency is kinda off. But overall, it's pretty good.
Hopefully you continue to write, man.

Chapter 0 has secured Verity a spot in my reading list!
The descriptive language is really nice and allows the reader to paint a picture in their mind when reading start to finish. The story is very well paced, I'd say perfect for an introduction to the world and its characters. Although I've only read the prologue, the story did an excellent job at holding me in suspense the entire time.
I am excited to read the book and see which path the protagonist takes! I 100% recommend Verity and hope people enjoy it as much as I will!

I like this story a lot so far. The descriptions are really good. Just finished reading chapter 5 and the cliff hanger on that chapter is brutal lol but well done. It just had really good timing. Plus, I appreciate the way the dialog is color coded. It makes it easier for me to read a little quicker.

As descriptive as it is, the pacing strikes me even more. Don't be a George RR Martin and diminish us here who would so gladly read thy word! In the wisest words of Marcus Aurelias; is it one's duty to lay beneath the sheets of a bed and fart? Nay, I say! Give unto thee thine own thoughts written upon paper! Your Consul demands chapters, Grammaticus!
