Even if it's just for the day - StratothraxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well written, interesting characters, great worldbuilding.
This story should be in the top ten of the active only ranking on this website.
Things I think the author could fix to get that:
A. the cover is pretty uninspiring, a good cover is surprisingly important for this site.
but more importantly B. The irrationality and illogic of what the characters do. This story feels like Mr.Plot has his hands firmly glued to the steering wheel and Mr.Characters is stuck along for the ride. And by that I mean that the author wants to move the plot along but to do so they come up with some unbelievable choices by characters to do so.
It's quite jarring because a lot of the writing tries quite hard to rationalize character choices, but other times they simply do things that don't line up with what their characterization would do.
Get a better cover Mr author and insert some paragraphs in the first 100 or so chapters when there is a choice that a character makes that is hard to believe, paragraphs to rationalize the characters thinking better to the reader. If you do that imo you would stand a fair chance of hitting the second or maybe first page of the ranking. - VegetablesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Ok, let me get this out front. I'm offended. Offended that this story isnt rated higher than it is. The only conclusion that I can come to for the reason its as low as it is is that people may be offended by the treatment of their religion.
Grammar wise, I'd easily put this within top 3 of everything on RR, including journey of black and red / metaworld chronicles. Its defintely better than metaworld in this regard. About 150 chapters in, I've only spotted a single mistake.
Story wise it's been excellent up to the point I've read to. I'd class it as YA if anything. I've got no issues with pacing or any other aspect of the story, with decent foreshadowing and no pulling anything out of the pants nonsense.
World building is good, without being tropey. There are some stand ins regarding monsters, but that aids more for familiarity. Those monsters that are not unique here are not in their typical incarnations, with the story being human based.
Characters are well developed, though maybe a bit typical in regards to the royal family. I also find Tenebrael/Lose a bit strange, not in keeping mentally with their level of power. I'd chalk this up to the YA thing though. Other than that though everything trucks along with believable motivation on the part of the cast.
All up I'd be happy to throw money all books of this if it was actually a series sitting on a shelf at a bookstore or floating around on amazon. Its far better than a lot of published books I've read. I definitely find it worthwhile for patreon, its a travesty that the support for the author is so low at the moment.
Anyway, going back in with both feet. I'm going to be sad when I get to the end of this. - godude18Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0TowerCurator is finally on RRL! Ok so I have read everything on the author’s site and the story is amazing with great character development and a well thought out story progression. The grammar is impeccable and the world building is very well thought out. Also the punctuality of the author is great. You should read it because it’s amazing. And while you’re at it vote for it on topwebfiction.com. Also, if you liked this you should read towercurator’s other work “Void Domain”.
- obsidianblackRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5On the whole, I enjoyed this story and would recommend it. It's not a litrpg and while there is progression, the focus is not really on the progression.
The writing is also quite good - one of the things I liked about this book was the authors ability to provide completely natural recaps to things that happened many chapters ago (without it breaking immersion). There was no point where, after putting the book down for a bit, I came back and could not track what was happening.
The characters' actions / motivations did not feel unnatural in any way. Neither were they holding the idiot ball, nor perfectly rational actors who don't make mistakes.
The thing i didn't like about this book, was that the last few arcs felt a bit rushed, as if it was a tv show that had been renewed for a second season but suddenly found out that it only had half the number of episodes of the first season. Despite this, the concluding arcs are not unsatisfactory - they're just good when the rest of the book was great. - Ebixx_DracionRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It has surprisingly wormed its way into my top 10 story tropes.
The magic system was light and very comprehensive, but spared no effort in providing for the complexity of the premise.
The pacing was also very engaging.
I don't know how much I'm allowed to spoil while writing a review though.
The few down sides (mostly personal gripes of mine) was that a few plots of interest remained open ended up until the very end of the story.
I only wish there was more. - TakingItCasualRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Can be misleading with the internet connection (I kept expecting a tech revolution, but it was mostly used for other purposes). Very well paced, good editing, and a fleshed out cast of characters. Interesting developing lore, although perspective isn't expanded much beyond the MC's awareness (local characters and plot have enough going on).
- CestarianRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This story has received surprisingly little attention on this site, it's really good, not plagued by the usual writing style/grammar issues most stories on this site have, not a single writing mistake has jumped out at me throughout the entire 50 chapters I have read. Even the interludes were actually well handled. No complaints there at all.
It's a pretty nice take on the isekai genre; one where the protagonist doesn't just get all things good and convenient thrown at her because 'god' (does get some things though, but no special abilities or anything, not really; also this is not a litrpg, there is magic though). It's a more mature approach to the genre with less wishy washy wish fulfillment bullshit in it (in fact I haven't seen anything of the sort in here, even 50 chapters in our protagonist is still mostly trying to scrape by without getting killed, or worse)
At the same time, I don't feel there's anything particularly specially good about the story, it's mostly a lot of little good things coming together to make a good whole, there's nothing that I find particularly amazing or exciting here by itself.
The characters are rather basic, the protagonist is basically a normie, there have been no sexual themes related to the protagonist (as of yet), e.g. no smut or romance, and it does not seem to be heading down that path either. I would say that this is a very good protagonist, she is relatable, moreso than the typical anime protagonists that will drop everything to help the first damsel in distress they encounter, or avoid any kind of sex like death itself despite being quite obviously sexually furstrated. No it's basically just a completely normal modern girl, thrown through a series of unfortunate events where she is forced to make a lot of difficult decisions (and she will actually make those decisions too, there's no "killing is evil" trope here, because when she's in a "them or me" situation, she will usually make the appropriate call, the same way any norm - Ciao LimitedRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I'll try and keep this short and sweet, but I'm neither so it probably won't go well. Spoiler tags for ease of digestion, not actual spoilers.
First of all, the Pros:
Worldbuilding:
The world, as mentioned by other reviewers, is an interesting take on both the isekai genre as well as high fantasy in general. Things don't take the typical turns on this front, as made most obvious by the presence of elven engineers and the absence of dwarves entirely (at least as of the Taker arc).
This world has a lot of things that you don't typically see in, not just isekai but western fantasy in general. Add in the very unique take on religion and you're ultimately presented with a, if not fascinating, then at least refreshing world.
Plot:
From what I could tell after reading up to the Taker arc, the plot is ultimately about getting home. Unfortunately, because certain reasons, even if Alyssa, our protagonist, actually managed to get home, she'd almost certainly be permanently killed. So it boils down to a series of "but firsts", which, given the content, actually has a lot of potential.
Now on to the Cons:
Characters:
Alyssa, for the first bundle of chapters, is a pretty good character. She reacts decently to what she's presented with and, while she's willing to hurt others to secure her own safety (sort of the entire inciting incident), she's far from some sort of sociopathic mass murder that a lot of other protagonists ultimately become.
She had that restraint going for her... Right up until it stopped being reasonable and started being outright detrimental to the story.
It was at the moment when she'd killed more people than most infantry soldiers, not even inculding the goblins, but still couldn't hit something with a friggin shotgun at point-blank range due to nerves that I started to check out.
The first "woe is me" moment is fine. The second shows that she's properly human. The third is the beginnings of tedium. The tenth is flat out aggravating.
Other characters see some - BadGenuisRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The content are wholesome. Have realistic portration.
But I lose interest starting in the transmigration of the whole house.
P.s. Inspite of detailed narration, what happened to the corpse?
