Useless Dragon! You gotta love the title (it's why you're here right?). You may skip the prologue - seriously - it's abstract creationism - so if you want to know where it all came from, be my guest, but it doesn't really add much - but things really get started in Chapter 1 with the awakening of our little dragon MC, and then we are straight into the progression and a very tidy breakdown of the LitRPG skills and elements.
The writer's style is sophisticated, economical and punchy, with the right amount of descriptions vs action. I love 1st person and I think this story is much the better for it, immediately creating a bond with the creature MC that would have been harder to generate in 3rd.
Sadly, I am not a fan of the LitRPG genre (I know, I know - come to the right place, haven't I?). As a video game player myself, I want to PLAY the game, not watch someone else do it (I feel the same way about spectator sports), so it's hard for me to review this from that perspective - and I will leave it to others more loving of LitRPG to assess its merits within that field.
So why the 5 star rating? Because I can tell this is an excellent writer with a great idea for a story on their hands, and I can see the LitRPG genre elements are being deployed with great skill (even if it's not my thing). Fans of the genre will greatly appreciate this story (but MAYBE skip the prologue... :)
