Description
Dark-type specialist Pokemon fic, a Poochyena, and trouble in Vinewood Town. Survival is making bonds and building on friendships, though no one would advise you do it with a Dark type- after all, they're nearly as bad as Ghosts.

- AressweRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So I love Pokemon fanfics ever since i found out about them over a year ago and have played all the mainline games/watched the show. And I must say here is another one that's going on my favorite list.
I really like the characters and the way the story progresses, plus gotta love the dark type Pokemon. I think its a great start to a series and I cant wait to read more. - Aubis97Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very promising start to a pokemon story! Usually not a huge fan of type specialty stories but this has a lot of potential. Also think any pokemon story where there is a more serious tone like this is great. There should be a risk of injury or death when you are running around with super powered animals.
- MichaelisFollyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First review! I love this, like seriously. Maybe that may change later on as I get deeper into this but right now I con confidently say that this is my favorite story on Royal Road—just one or two others coming a close second/third.
The chapters are (in my opinon) brilliantly paced. The characterization and inner monolouge of our MC is very fun for me to read along with just about everything else going on in the story so far.
There are few to zero grammatical errors, most of the ones I spot being inconsistencies between a pronoun or misstructured sentence, something you don't really notice while your mind is being pulled into the world. Do note that these show up barely within a chapter, often appearing maybe every 3-5 and only one or two times within the already long reading time.
Personally I enjoy the length at which the chapters are written, for others looking for a quick read I would reccomend turning away. However if you're willing to give it a try please do. The wording is incredibly descriptive, the action dynamic and adrenaline inducing, all the while having the ability to be comedic and charming.
All and all, this is great! I'm looking forward to continue binging this and when I catch up, painfully await the next chapter. - OmniextRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0With how this story starts, you'd think that it would be one of those fics that make the Pokemon world incredibly dark compared to canon (like Salvation), but Ungilded manages to stay well above the line in that regard. I personally don't much like the ones that go too far with the grimdark.
Instead, Ungilded is about the journey of newly isekai'd man that stumbled into being a dark type trainer and theconsequences thereof. It follows his journey around Sinnoh– as of now.
STYLE: 5/5
Style is good. I don't really have much to say about it, besides the fact that I've enjoyed each and every chapter and have no complaints about it.
GRAMMAR: 5/5
Grammar is also good. I didn't notice any mistakes, so they were either incredibly minuscule or just not there.
STORY: 5/5
I really like how it's going so far. As I've written before, we follow the MC as he's journeying around Sinnoh, but it's more like finding his place in the world instead of journeying. Honestly, it's a nice change of pace from the usual 'Become Pokemon Master' or the like that loads of other fics have.
CHARACTER: 5/5
The mostly slow pacing does wonders for elaborating on each and every character that pops up, whether that be human or pokemon. Even characters that barely have a role at all are unique, and you can usually tell what they have going on even without it being explicitly told to you. - RustyPikeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I followed a recommendation from another Pokemon story, and I am glad I did. There may be limited chapters, but what there is is a delight to read. I felt genuine emotion at times for the scrappy little Drake, and the perspective of having to deal with stereotyping of other trainers makes for compelling situations. I hope to see more of this one going forward, it was a genuine delight to sit down and go over what there is.
- VixieStixRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's back! I've been following this story for two years now, and I've just been hoping the author will return to it! I usually don't leave reviews, but if it'll encourage them to keep writing I will!
Firstly, if you like the idealized world of Pokemon and don't usually go for darker pokemon stories, this is for you. I love the fact it's more light-hearted and the world itself just seems as kind and happy as it does in the original.
There are still obstacles, disasters, and challenges for our protagonist to overcome, but just reading how pokemon, and people come together to help puts a smile on my face.
In addition, the Pokemon all feel really fleshed out, just like the humans characters, and I find myself invested in their development, particularly Drake, our protagonists first partner Pokemon, and I look forward to the future drama, knowing it'll hurt but that the characters will get through it, stronger than before.
I for one deeply enjoy this more friendly and warm-hearted version of the Pokemon world, and I can't wait to see where Cam's journey goes from here. - Loki's ChildRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It's a interesting take on a isekai Pokemon story. The Male Si is thrown to the deep end right from the start. He is a Dark type trainer in a world where even some Dark type trainers don't trust Dark type trainers.
The writing itself is free of your typical grammatical errors and the story interesting. The characters are well written with decent backgrounds.
Edit: I like that the MC is not just doing the Gyms, he is also not just going out and hunting Pokemon to fill his team. He is making heartfelt connections and gaining their trust. - LiliumSkylightRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is one of the best pokemon fanfics I have ever read. I lost how many times I’ve read this, it’s just that good. I love how it focuses on a dark type trainer ( I don’t see many of those, much less good ones), the pacing and how Cam deals with being in the pokemon world is just *chef’s kiss*.
I hope this fic isn’t abandoned. I’m heartbroken each time I read a good fanfic, only to find out that it’s been a long time since it has been updated or have been abandoned.
You got good stuff in this. I hope you continue working on this till the end. - Tread CarefullyRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Though there aren't many chapters yet, they are fairly long, so I think I have a decent enough grasp of the story's quality.
It's told in 1st person and neglects to provide many details about who that person is or any about how they look, afair. I can only assume that's to facilitate the reader's self-insertion.
The writing itself is fairly clean, though not to the point that it could be called "polished" yet.
The characters still feel kinda... vague. Between how little material there is right now, how in media res it started, and the fact that we'll only have 2 (the MC and the starter) who will remain relevant for the coming chapters, that's understandable. But I am starting to worry that Cammy is being left intentionally vague for the sake of being a self-insert.
Hopefully, they'll come into focus soon. - Judgeful CatRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Finally a fanfic bout dark types. Been looking for pokemon fanfic like this for a while. Finished reading all of the current chapters, and everything good so far, good grammar, good story flow and nice touch with the starter. That with alone will create good interactions in the future.
Ps. Pls don't drop
