Unfought Wars is a fascinating and well written story that I enjoyed reading. So far, it is the story of Locke, a young man (who seems very young and perhaps a bit naive) who seems to have been trained in a variety of skills (including hunting monsters) for some unknown purpose.
The opening hunting scene is strong and the writing throughout is clean and well written.
Early on we see the appearance of a Janitor, a mysterious custodian of this world, who has a mission for Locke. I love the air of mystery around the appearance of the janitor - hints at some very cool things to come!
Apparently everyone else seems to know far more about what’s about to happen when the janitor appears - but Locke is in the dark here. The janitor lets him say his goodbyes, then takes him to a new city to a strange time looping building/room (?) called the Mountain Ride. The concept of this is quite cool, if a bit confusing at first. I’m very curious to see how this develops!
I’m super intrigued with this set up and I’m eager to read more. That said, I do think Locke would know a bit more about the Janitors, this world, and maybe even the Mountain Ride than he seems to (like all his friends).
Also, I do the think the Title of this story may not be right for this book. Unfought Wars: The Mountain Ride tells me very little about what this very cool and creative story will become. Just an idea.
