Description
Lost on an incomprehensibly vast and ancient world, a young man must struggle through impossible challenges and overwhelming odds to uncover the secrets buried not just in this fantastical place, but also deep within himself.
With an unsure name and an even less sure past, Kade must navigate a society built in the literal shadows of dead gods. With more enemies than friends, he'll face unimaginable horrors and wonders alike on his Path to Power, a journey guided by a mysterious artifact he can't remove, the final creation of a mad sorcerer.
In a place where magic is not only real, but seems to have its own will and deadly purpose, Kade must master the powers of this world, as well as his own mysterious gifts. But where does this other power come from, and why does it feel so much like the terrifying untamed magic that this world calls Chaos?
Perhaps most importantly of all, what are the chains wrapped around his very soul, and exactly what are they binding?
Note to readers:
*Contains LitRPG elements: quests, stats, classes, and a carefully designed magic system with clear rules and progression
*These elements unfold gradually as the MC is introduced to the world. I’m trying very hard to write a great story, not just a great LitRPG.

- trichoplaxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story: There are a lot of things in this novel. From mysterious powers, to mysterious people, to mysterious environments, everything is mysterious, and I love it. The first 4 chapters immediately throw you in a world of danger and unknown which you must traverse with the main character. You have no idea what exactly is going on, and neither does Kade (MC) which allows the reader to sympathize with the situation. Currently, at chapter 4 I have a million questions that I cannot wait to have answered
Style: The author's style is refined and well executed. All aspects of a scene, from setting to movements, expressions and emotions, everything is adequately described. The dialogue is also done quite well, when characters speak it feels natural.
Grammar: Frankly, I have not noticed any notable mistakes, nothing that makes the story any more difficult to read. It is evident that the author carefully edits their chapter before posting them, providing the best reading experience possible
Character : It is hard to say for now what I think about Kade because he is still in the adaptation phase of the isekai. I do like that he acts exactly the way I would expect someone who has been transported into a foreign world against their will to act, he feels like a real person. However, I loved the dynamic between the trio of humans, they each had their own distinctive personalities and the way they interacted with each other was quite comical at times. The author has skillfully made them into three distinct people with their own ways of interacting with the world. - HuparxesofHupokrisisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I picked this story up quite by chance - it's in a genre that's not normally my cup of tea - but was more than pleasantly surprised with what I discovered. This is a wonderful story.
The author has a well-fleshed out world which they've been revealing at a reasonable enough pace (a bit of exposition each chapter), and Kade is an intriguing character. I can't comment on the other characters; the story isn't long enough for me to have a good image of them.
The writing style is rock solid, and other than the occasional odd choice of word or grammatical error there's no real problems with the writing itself. (Though it could stand to lose some descriptive text during fight scenes, but that's a minor quibble.)
The setting is very strange (in a good way), and I'm looking forward to seeing what the author does next. This is definitely not your typical fantasy setting. In fact, my other minor quibble with this book is related to that: as of time of posting it only has tags for LitRPG and Fantasy. Both of these fit, but they're definitely not descriptive enough, and I'd encourage the author to add some more - this is a story with fantastical quasi-immortals, other worlds, a complex mythos, etc., but the description isn't reflective of its depth.
Looking forward to reading more! - thalia.Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0‘unchained chaos’ is a story that captivates readers with its rich and immersive storytelling that leaves many on the edge of their seats as they navigate this strange new world.
style:
to begin, the writing style is incredible as it is clear that every word is carefully crafted to evoke a vivid and enthralling reading experience. the evocative language heightens the sense of dread and tension as the story begins with the mc in a horrific predicament. the only reason i couldn’t give it the full five stars was because there were times i was a little lost with how dense the writing could be but i would chalk that to esl rather than the author’s ability to paint with their words. i know that many would enjoy this style of narration and be compelled to keep reading because of the story’s deep and rich description and prose.
story:
at the time of this review, the first four chapters are focused on introducing the protagonist and this new world he finds himself in, as well as the magic system. this approach is much appreciated as it slowly introduces key concepts and terms to the reader without overwhelming them. i’m sure fans of the genre would thoroughly enjoy this slowburn progression as each piece of information feels earned as the mc navigates his way through.
with regards to the plot (and with little to no spoilers), each chapter adds layers to the overarching narrative, building suspense and anticipation to what lies ahead as the mc is trying to figure out what has happened to him and how is he going to survive the terrible situation he finds himself in. you can’t help but route for him, as the tension increases and the stakes begin to rise. from the intrigue to understanding the situation around the mc, to the threat of facing monsters, i’m sure many would agree that the story continues to grip readers as the narrative unfolds.
grammar:
my grammar is not the greatest, so i’m not one to judge, but from what i could tell there were little to no mistakes.
characters - LonjanisRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5An epic and grim tale. One of the comments I saw made a comparison to dead space. I found it oddly apt, to be honest. The opening prologue has big cultivation vibes but on a very epic scale, sporting some funky Dark Souls vibes.
If I remember correctly the author is a game dev, which makes sense the system in place all seems quite solid and thought out. Also as I mentioned before there are some significant video game inspirations in play. This is I think a positive.
Personally, I think this story could do with some of the classic blue boxes, but thats more of my own taste than anything. If you aren't bothered by the system elements being typed out, you should find it solid and enticing.
The grammar is excellent and the prose is appealing. I found the imagery epic, exciting, and haunting.
I would have scored the character with higher stars, but the lack of information on the lead is a key point (at least in the early story). So I also didn't want to punish the author for that choice with a low score.
If you like litrpg I can't recommend Unchained Chaos enough. Plus the cover reminds me of Cradle which Is always nice haha. - C.H. MouserRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story started very well! It has interesting ideas that really lure in the reader as we try to grasp what's going on along with Kade. The mystery and suspense was really felt by both the Reader and the Character as we are swept into a tail of the unknown. The way the system is worked in and how the world was developing had a very ancient eldritch feel. The story really shows the Authors skill and weaves an interesting take on waking in an unknown place.
Style: The Authors style is solid and tends to lure the reader in. I knocked a little due to being lost sometimes but I also understand how difficult it can be to explain panic and confusion when expressing characters thoughts and actions. The Author style was very honed in my opinion.
Story: I thought the story was great and you could really feel a sense of mystery with this world. The way the ideas were played with took it to another level and kept the reader entranced and wanting to continue. Overall I felt it had a very solid foundation and was intrigued the entire time.
Grammar: I'm not the best to rate grammar but as a reader I can confidently say that never once did a grammar or punctuation mistake ever affect my reading experience. To the undiscerning eye everything was perfect.
Character: Though the character was still being fleshed out what was shown was done very well. I did feel a little detachment sometimes between thoughts and actions but it was negligible. For all intensive purposes Kade looked to be heading to be a well written and developed protagonist and his story was awesome. The intro done especially well at capturing the suspense of just waking and how a character will deal with the experience. - gliglithRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5There's action, there's a system with a unique twist, and there's intrigue here to keep you reading more. Overall, this fiction is an entertaining offering that is sure to impress and hold readers' interest as it, much like our protagonist, progresses on.
Style: This is undoubtedly a well-written story, mainly consisting of strong prose with similarly strong imagery. From my perspective as a reader, I did actually find it a little dense and difficult to grasp everything quickly because of the level of detail sometimes interrupted my flow of reading. With slight modifications to the prose to improve flow, this could easily improve - mainly, focusing on active versus passive description and perspective.
Story: This is probably the strongest part of this piece - specifically, the story of this fiction as it relates to LitRPG. There is a unique feature in here that I at least haven't seen before that without spoilers kind of reminds me of the Fallout series.
With spoilers: a powerful bracelet grants Kade the system. It kind of reminds me of pip boys which is very cool and not something I've seen done in a LitRPG, I dig it.
These new undertakings, with a balance of other more classic LitRPG elements, tell a tale with wide appeal to LitRPG fans. There is progression to be had, and this story is not shy about that - and we're starting from ground zero.
Grammar: Excellent work here, I noticed no issues, though as mentioned in style using more active language, while not a grammar issue, could improve flow.
Character: There was one section of this fiction that I really felt connected me to Kade, something that I hope as it continues we get to see more of. Kade sees a group of enemies and doubts the descriptors that his bracer provides. This is, in my opinion, a super cool event that really stuck out to me. I do feel that Kade is written as an insert for the reader, which is of course no problem - but I do feel like little points of insight, where Kade's intellect is on displa - MorossatiRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Well, I read the first ten chapters. It wasn't bad, by any means. His penwork is nice. He has only a couple of minor grammar issues that are bearly note worthy. The start is engaging enough. Hence 3 out of 5, hardly flattering but a passing grade non the less.
My main problem cames from how outlandish everything and every one is on this story. The most mundane looking guy is a thousand year old dude that can manifest floating axes out of nowhere and nonchalantly declared to have his soul touched by a god. Make no mistakes, that is rad as fuck, but like Syndrome said once: "When everyone is special, no one realy is."
And there also is the lore issue:
From a Watsonian point of view, is obvious that the MC, being a stranger in an strangers land, would milk the older wiser characters for information as soon as he has the chance. The problem comes when you consider things from a Doilistic point of view: As a writer, you must let the audience ponder questions before answer them. I felt like we didn't get that time to be properly confused before receiving an explanation.
