Description
HokutoShimamoto is a 16 year old who has little left in his life.
Jessica Gaines is a 26 year old with yet a whole lot of future ahead of her.
A chance meeting by these two leads to an unfortunate happenstance- and where they find themselves at the end of it is anywhere but home. Now, they must come to understand the new world they find themselves in; a world where swords, superstition, and sorcery abound; where great evil is afoot, and a hero is needed...however, what this ailing land may get is something not quite as expected, and many decisions will have to be made for the good of both themselves and their new surroundings if they want to survive it all. However, some decisions are harder to make than others, and with two individuals that barely know each other, those problems can only abound...
Hokuto and Jessica will have to learn each others' worlds before they can even begin to properly navigate this one. The question is...will they? Can they? And do they even really want to?

- horizon108Royal Road★★★★ 4.0Disclaimer: I have reviewed this novel at the end of Chapter 4: Learning (The latest chapter so far)
Overall score: 4/5 - There simply isn't enough material for me to make a decision that goes above this score - though the chapters are long and the world-building is fantastic.
Style Score: 4.5/5 - I love the way the dialogue flows and the distinctive personalities that have been created for each character's voice so far. I would've rated it higher but again, needs more material to justify the rating being higher.
Story Score: 4/5 - So far it's a typical portal-fic, however - the interesting part is the lack of a system so far in the story and the introduction of powers that are natural to use. I also really appreciate how the protagonists have knowledge of portal-fic prior to their portalling and they are competent in trying out and testing their otherworldly knowledge.
Grammar score: I found perhaps 3 errors in the entire 4 chapters + prologue. Also, My grammatical skills are not the best and hence, I focus mainly on readability and this novel was pretty good on that aspect.
Character Score: Hokuto and Jessica have very different backgrounds and thought processes and the author has done a beautiful job in drawing that out. They are also not violent and stupid as most portal-fic makes their MC's out to be. They are rational, retain their original world manners and characteristics, and adapt pretty fast due to common aspects shared between the two worlds (Farming). I quite like them and hope to see how they develop in the future.
Final verdict: I really like where it's going though the long chapters were a bit tough to get through. However, the world-building as a result of those long chapters is top-notch and greatly appreciated.
All in all, it's a novel worthy of sinking your teeth into without any regrets.
Good luck to the author and happy reading to you, the reader! - Enyale FrostRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I read the fiction till the fourth chapter. Not quite enough to truly judge the fiction in its entirety, but to this point, I felt that the characters are most definitely interesting, especially the dynamic between Jessica and Hokuto. The worldbuilding is okay, but nothing too different from what I'd expect from a fantasy story.
Although, one thing that irks me about this fiction is that the motivations of the characters feel... forced. There's no external stimulus driving them from one plot point to the next, one scene to the next. Rather, they decide that, "Oh, we need to learn about our powers. Surely, there must be a teacher around." Moreover, there have been no threats to move the story ahead, nothing quite exciting has happened to them yet. It may be a fiction with a slow start, though, so if you're expecting action in the first few chapters, this may not be for you.
