Description
Through the planes another world lies, fighting for survival from the taint their ancestors unleashed on their world. For generations, they have called beings from other planes to bolster their forces, but now few answer their calls. So, they turn to what their ancestors did in desperation, the very thing that doomed them originally. Forcing a planar junction, so they may retreat there to fight against their enemies.
They turn to the plane their ancestors were thrown out of, a plane where magic is no longer. Earth, now a land of technological marvels unprepaired for both the demonic taint and the shattered kingoms of theirs.
Adrian Ravnos a young man who wants little more than to have some fun playing games and reading books must survive in this world rapidly returning to the state his ancestors lived in, reality and fate in flux. Can he even survive let alone thrive in this twisted world?
As the plane of Althrá has been dragging beings of power to their plane for centuries there are multiple systems of both magical and physical arts known by characters within this story. Likewise, many ideas have been adopted and implemented by the dying deities of Althrá.
This story is being rewritten, it will stay up until the rewrite is done.

- TadrithRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0No real critisisms besides some edditing needed in a couple of spots to fix what look to be autocorrect errors. I enjoyed this book and will contine reading it as chapters come out.
- jlkcRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very enjoyable read with an interesting and well executed concept.
My favorite thing about this story are the characters and how human they are. It's easy to immerse yourself in the world when you don't have characters being forced to act OOC just so the plot can progress a certain way. - ragaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Engaging magical apocalypse story. Interesting application of mixing Mage the Awakening-esque magic for the protagonist along with more rpg game-ish magic for others.
Author did do more research on guns and made some changes; previously calibers were a bit off but that's been fixed. - flakesRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Most of the apocalypse novels begin with a loner who gets stronger fighting off the gobin horde all by himself. Whether trapped in the school/dungeon or an ex military survivalist living at the edge of town, it is all about the individual against the world. Usually the first kill is pure luck, and often they get a skill right away that helps them survive.
Twisting fate is different. Yes they start off in a school. But at the first sign of danger the MC gets his class to move away from the window, grab weapons (baseball bats) and then uses magic he already had to summon a gun. The high school isn't a dungeon, and presumably in the missing chapter between 3 & 4 they decide to leave the safety of the school to go to a hardware store and stock up on weapons.
The story isn't perfect. Like I mentioned, there is a chapter missing (or maybe I missed something). The scale of the carnage seems to be off. They are in a city or town, but bodies don't seem to be lining the streets, nor do there seem to be other groups of survivors. This is the US after all, and if guns are working, well there are a lot of people in this country with a heck of a lot of guns.
definitely worth a read. - Futhark the ElderRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I really liked the story premise — monsters arrive from another plane, schoolboy protagonist already knows some sort of magic, a game-like system shows status sheets, and awards points that may be allocated to skills and so forth. Nothing terribly original, but great potential. There are hints of an additional system of magic not based on mana or chi. Terrific.
Unfortunately, the protagonist is a disappointment. One gets the impression that the author thinks he/she has created an intelligent MC who is decisive and effective. However, the MC makes really stupid choices.
Spoilers ahead!
In the beginning we have the familiar scenario of lowlevel goblins attacking the school. The MC has guns. On two (!) occasions he ignores the goblin mage acting as leader, even though said goblin stands out by having clothes and a staff. Instead the MC shoots at less dangerous goblins until after the goblin mage has done harm that might have been avoidable. Keep in mind that the MC is supposed to be an avid gamer to whom the entire scenario is presumably familiar.
In the MC’s party, an unreliable individual who clearly cannot be trusted is ignored, the MC hoping feebly that the individual will leave on his own. Not what I think of as decisive.
The MC’s party very sensibly hid out in a store with hunting and camping equipment. On the morning when they are to leave in order to search for family members, the MC wakes to find fully packed backpacks. Without checking to see what was packed, they set off! It turns out that the backpacks are full of unusable items as they were packed by elves who didn’t understand the function of the items in the store. Look, what kind of idiot sets off with a backpack someone else packed without having a peep at what’s inside? Would you do it? It’s unimaginable. Anyone who has ever gone camping develops a reflex of checking their pack, not to mention organising it optimally so that items such as water may be easily retrieved.
Alas, the more I read the more t - CezarIXenRoyal Road★★★ 2.5I begin to read this novel because I really like the apocalyptic story and also a story with psychologically backed up a human action, and this novel seemed like putting together both elements. "Twisting fate" is trying, but not enough.
It is hard to recognise a novel as psychological if it is filled with many stereotype nobles and not very intelligent.Further information includes a lightweight spoiler, but without them, I can not reveal what I did not like in this novel: I really don't think that first thing noble with magic must do, when they world has merged with another, is slave hunting human without magic. So without magic humans, the only purpose of existence is slavery, and noble purpose is to catch them all?
However, the need for new information exist, so give one of them better treatment, because the random selection of seventeen-year-old boy will provide the best information. And that choice fell on the person who accidentally hates the main character just because he is nerdy and copes with the apocalypse better than he does. Of course, it all happened a while later as he left the protection of the main hero.
On the personality of the main character I can not complain too much, although he did not gain my sympathy, is well done. The problem is that one character done well is not enough.
Perhaps it is not a bad story, but giving a psychological tag for a novel that contains so many characters acting impersonally because they are not the main hero rejects me. - LoptrRoyal Road★★ 1.5But I have to give this one a pass.
The MC knows magic already, okay cool. I can handle that.
MC is such a badass that he keeps confronting large groups of enemies by himself? Nope even with two pistols he would be dead in no time.
MC shows absolutely no emotion. None. Not shock, worry, suprise, he's a freaking robot.
Five people manage to put down over 40 enemies, while only losing two of there number, but only because the MC shows up and kills most of them. While wounded no less.
I can't take anymore. A story should make you suspend belief not question every single step.
Needs to be gone over and made more believable and some life needs to be injected into the MC. - CashireCatRoyal Road★ 1.0Read until chapter 10.
I really wanted to like this story, since the premise seemed to be interesting.
However, the main Character and world building is just awful.
The MC has not shown any emotions to the Apocalypse, neither surprise nor fear only reaction. Furthermore he is an Expert in planning, firearms, self defense and ofc arrows.
The MC has shown to use magic but it´s not clear if magic is something normal or hidden in this world since nobody did it otherwise.
All his friends do what he wants him to do and everything works without problems.
...The characters feel like robots. - FalseLuckRoyal Road★ 1.0It's OP MC out the gate.
Marked psychological because the MC is an emotionless robot. I made it through the prologue excited, then stopped after the first chapter because of how bland it was. - JknottRoyal Road★ 0.5I was really curious about this book but after 10 chapters im going to have to stop reading. The book needs major editing, tons of grammer errors.
