Description

A she-elf, the last of her kind upon the earth after the rest of her race abandoned it centuries earlier, becomes entangled in fairy tales. Je Kinah's moral compass demands that she lend a hand to stories that were meant to have a 'happily ever after' but have gone astray. However, she is not without her own story and her past is coloured with tragedy and tainted with despair. Even as she unwravels each fairy tale, more of her own story is revealed and the ultimate conclusion is addressed. Can a she-elf ever hope for her own happily ever after, after all she has done?

Stumbled across this story a couple days back and decided to give it a whirl: the old 'complete novel length with one rating and no reviews' is always a fun game to play. So, what do we have?
This story is complete at 315,000 words. It details the story of Jé Kinah, the last elf in a world of fairy-tales, on her journey through reimaginings of several classic stories helping them reach their happily ever afters. All the while, a greater background narrative is in play that Jé is unsurpisingly tied to (protagonists, am I right?) but it serves as decent intrigue while it lasts in the shadows then solid motivation once it comes into the light.
And tl;dr? I enjoyed it. A lot. I've read this entire story in the past three days between work and have done very little else. The characters are good, the re-imaginings of the classic fairy-tales are great, and even once all that breaks down and it charts a course towards more 'original' content I liked what it was laying down.
Yes, it's trope heavy and takes a lot from the classics but... I mean it's literally a fanfiction of the classics; this is to be expected.
The style of this story is solid. Each chapter is a different fairy tale navigated, which leads to some long chapters. Author has written a triple-length novel in 20 chapters, accessibility takes a little hit for that. BUT, equally, each chapter is fairly self-contained (at least for the first half) so it's no real hardship.
Formatting is good, everything is clearly legible, and I noticed no glaring issues.
Grammar is also good throughout, no issues severe enough to derail me from the reading raised their heads and so I'm left with a fairly boring review of "when it's done right you don't notice it's done at all."
The Story and Characters are where things get interesting. The first half of this story is downright fantastic, really fun reimaginings of classic tales and the story of the protagonist running through them. The second half, as it branches towards more 'orig
