Description

Lakeview, Canada. In this avarage town, Danny, a university student that appears to be no different than his peers has just started his university life. Despite outwardly looks, Danny's story is anything but ordinary. As he goes about a seeminglynormal daily life, our protagonist carries a dark secret from the past, hiding it from the world and those around him.

However, unbeknownst to him, everything is about to change.

When Danny receives an offer from an unexpected source, he becomes aware of a terrible fate. Soon, civilization itself will face an existential crisis and Danny must quickly prepare himself the best way he can in order to survive the upheveal.

Though future is bleak and marred with uncertainty, change brings with it unforseen opportunities. Follow Danny as he struggles with both past and future in a world thrown into chaos.

(TLDR: A guy with a troublesome past faces an apocalyptic situation)

Tutuis alow-fantasynovel that focus heavily on character development and introspection. The story featuresgore, zombies, monsters, demons, action, mystery, somelight horror, a fewxianxiaelements, and will eventually include many more things.

This story has a slower pace than the avarage fiction on RoyalRoad, so do not expect the protagonist to become incredibly powerful from the get-go.

Things you will not find here: plot armor, heaven-defying luck and two-dimensional characters.

This is my first ever shared novel, I hope you guys have fun and enjoy the ride. Also do point out any mistakes you find, and contructive criticism is ALWAYS welcome.

Avarage chapter length: 2.1k words as of chapter 102 (minimum of 1.5k per chapter)

Excellet history, characters well developed and intelligent plot. Surprises all around.
Exciting to follow protagonist coming from a  very dread childhood, trying to escape from demon and all involved terror, just to find a bigger challenge ahead in a dramatic world transformation. Nevertheless, is precisely his difficult childhood that prepares him to face what is ahead and also to protect friends he could never imagined would have. In certain sense, demon is his worst enemy and best friend at same time. A great paradox.
Regarding other characters, it is also interesting to see their development as long as environment gets more dangerous. To the ones you may expect courage you don't find that much, to the ones you may think as weaker are in fact the more brave ones. So this also represents a bit of what is perceived in real world: only under extreme circumstances we can really know what people are capable of, their real soul.  In that sense, despite history is a fantasy, we can feel a reality flavor all the time, bonding us with the sense of "that makes sense" or "this could be really happened under such situation".
One point that I would like to see developed is relationship between main character and his father. It gives me an impression that a lot of things need to be fixed so he can heal from his past. Some dose of redemption would be nice.
Only point I would change is name of female characters: two similar, sounds like lacking of creativity.
Also, good grammar and well written arguments in general. Sometimes a little overuse of some specific words (like "thus"), but nothing that compromises the good flow of history.
I'm still reading first part, but will keep reading so I'm curious to find out how this distopic universe will progress.

I am kind of surprised that this story hasn't had any reviews yet. It begins with an original kind of prequel about a boy that has been hounded by a demon for over a decade. I won't go through more than that so as to avoid spoilers but it is both creepy and exciting at the same time. The apocalypse itself has just gotten started where I am at now, and nothing new has really presented itself. At the same time. the mc isn't stupid and protected by layers of plot armor like other stories seem to be. I highly enjoy it and recommend this tale to anyone that is either interested in apocalypse or zombie genres. It's a fun read with good writing.

The story exceeded the expectations I had from the beggining. So far, great story.
I'm liking the nice characters and the strong protagonist , which are keeping my attention and making me look forward to read  next chapters. I hope it remains surprising.
    Plots also capture attention.
Keep the good job and don't take much to post. Can't wait for the next developments!

A good read in general, though realy not a lot of chapter atm, at least for me.
MC is kind of likeable, premise is interesting, demons seem to be interesting as well, characters aren't cardboard cutouts, not much of world known as of ch.104, but what is know seems to be interesting, albeit a little generic, nothing bad about that tho.
People get powerups from killing shit in form of soul crystals which they have to consume in one way or another. Yet again, nothing bad with using common power system if you use it correctly.

Your story definitely deserves to be on royal roads rising stars. Maybe it needs a bit of advert.
Just don't make the mc superman too fast. Slow burn growth keeps people hooked. Your elaborate fight scenes are visually engrossing. Maybe creating lethal conflict with fellow humans could be an avenue to explor.  Keep up the good work brotha.

Style: In all honesty the story does not have much of a unique style, steady and consistent is how i would describe it. In addition it is written in a slow paced way. By that i mean that it seems set up for the long haul, how it describes little details, the main charcters thoughts and actions, make me believe this is written for chapters in the upper hundreds.
Story: How does a story this well made have so few followers? The theme is fairly unique and interesting. The story is slow, (in my opinion) a good way. This also leans into the style of consistent writting, the progression is slow in a way that sets the story up for many chapters ahead. Reading a slow progression story is honestly a bit refreshing with all the super fast paced 1-100 in 100 pages stories.
Grammar: Noticed no issues with grammar in this story
Character: I actually quite like this character. I havent read about very many characters that start off with an issue, much less one as intriguing as this one. The fact that this issue remains consistent throughout the story (so far) leans into the consistent style of writing. I say "so far" because the mc is honestly quite cunning in many ways in this story and the way the author describes his thought process makes this story better as we can see the reasoning behind his actions. This is actually something i have not seen very often as most authors expect you to know why a mc does something. So having thought processes walked through allows for a greater insight into the character of the mc. The main character is cautious which increases the enjoyment and reasoning for the thought processes being walked through.

I found the novel searching for a Xianxia novel. I was unsure if I should read it at first because I saw no tag of at least an anti-hero MC, something you would expect in a post-apocalyptic world.
That said, the first chapters got my attention because it's not a start you would expect. A MC haunted since young by a supernatural being, that scares anyone trying to get close, making him a lonely person without choice. Against all odds, and one of my dislikes with the story, even after all this when the apocalypse breaks out the MC is still so trusting of people.
Style: I can only give 4 stars, the chapters describing the surroundings and the actions of the MC are one of the best parts of the novel, making everything real. Yet I can't stomach the parts where his thought process is being explained, it's way to boring.
Grammar: I am very picky when it comes to grammar yet I have nothing to find wrong here. The sentences flow nicely, so 5 stars
Story: Xianxia+Post-apocalypse I have seen some novels of this kind with LITRPG added in the mix, they were bad and boring. Here the author made it actually interesting. A realistic reason why humans are attacked, the odds being very against them. No chosen one to save everyone. I like it a lot so 5 stars.
Character: Here I want to complain the most, really. We have a MC that has been disappointed more than enough in his life, for sadly valid reasons. I mean how would want to deal with something supernatural. When the apocalypse comes he, someone that has seen enough of humans is still so bright and gives his trust so easily.
I find it unnatural, that after so many years of being haunted he didn't change his outlook of the world. When he is betrayed at the start because his secret is found out his reaction is simply oh, it happened again... By this point any sane person would become dark at least a bit, at least an anti hero. Yet nothing changes. This is my main complain with the story if the MC was more dark, it would have been so

The fic overall is slower than most action oriented works, but is paced just right for a survival fic. Author puts heavy emphasis on survival, working without required information on just about ANYTHING unless you pay a heavy price, human emotions and their contradictory nature.
MC has only one advantage that has a pretty heavy price. (He has a source of knowledge that takes sacrifices for every bit of knowledge you get from it). He is mostly just an average Joe who gets a bit of a headstart and has to deal with his demons. (You see what I did there? You will get it later.)
Vocabulary is rich, grammar doesn't have glaring issues (I haven't seen ANY in 60 chapters), overall very nice.
Characters are a bit wonky at times to me, too emotional at one moment and to meek at the other. (I am talking about Carl and the gun in the first location) but otherwise are realistic and consistent in their inconsistency which probably comes from dealing with a crisis and I am too emotionally stunted to understand it sooooo...
Overall, a bit darker than normal take on slowly ramping up magical apocalypse without a system (Is that legal?!).

The start of this story is pretty fantastic. We're introduced to Danny, and run through his life up to college over the course of the first couple chapters. These are easily the best chapters in the novel. Afterwards, its biggest issue starts to poke through more. More on that later. The first chapters are very creepy, and I'd actually put them as some of the better starting chapters even compared to some of the biggest stories on the site.
But, afterwards those issues I mentioned start showing. The writing can be stilted at times, and they get close to disruptive. It isn't too bothersome, but it makes the stories pace feeling a little off, no matter what its actually at, because it makes everything feel slower and more awkward. I'd actually place the fiction a half-star lower if it weren't for the fact that the awkward writing isn't just a detractor. The story itself actually is better in some ways due to this.
Any actual pacing issues feel lesser, and it actually fits the darker aesthetic the novel's going for by making it feel rougher. While it would probably be better if it were actually written fantastically, it really isn't the worst. I even kind of like it.
    Worth giving it a shot.

Style: Steady and Consistent with a Slow Burn
In all honesty, the story may not boast a unique style, but it remains steady and consistent throughout. The deliberate slow pacing creates a sense of anticipation, indicating that it is built for the long haul. The attention to detail in describing the protagonist's thoughts and actions sets the stage for chapters numbering in the upper hundreds. This slow progression is a refreshing change from the super fast-paced stories that dominate the scene.
Story: A Unique and Well-Crafted Tale
It's surprising that a well-made story like this one has garnered so few followers. The theme is both unique and interesting, captivating readers from the start. The deliberate slow pacing, which some may perceive as a flaw, actually adds depth to the narrative. It aligns perfectly with the consistent writing style, setting the story up for many captivating chapters to come. Engaging with a slow-burn progression is a delightful change of pace in a world of rushed narratives.
    Grammar: Impeccable and Error-Free
The story maintains impeccable grammar throughout, without any noticeable issues. The author's attention to detail in this regard enhances the reading experience, ensuring a smooth flow and preventing any distractions from the narrative.
    Character: Intriguing and Well-Developed
The main character of this story is a standout, starting off with an intriguing issue that sets the stage for an engrossing journey. The consistent presence of this issue throughout the story showcases the author's commitment to maintaining narrative consistency. What truly elevates the character development is the inclusion of the protagonist's thought processes, providing deeper insight into their reasoning and actions. It's a rare treat to have the author walk readers through the character's thinking, enhancing our understanding of the protagonist's motivations. The main character's cautious nature further adds to the enjoyment and reinforces the importance
