Tur Briste

Description
A Druid cultivation novel. Borrows concepts from Wuxia and Xianxia but using Druid myth and lore. More on this at the bottom.
Crow is son of Maddox, a Druid with an ancient bloodline and a people with a story spanning toward the beginning of time. Cursed, unfated, and a heap of bad luck have brought him only pain and suffering, but nothing will stop him. Nothing can stop him. A son of Maddox doesn’t bow his head. A son of Maddox understands that only a man with roots, with something to lose, will fight until the last drop of blood leaves his body.
The Draoidh were once a proud people. They were both respected and hated for their form of righteousness. Power wasn’t something they gained through the might of their arms, but through intelligence. Their fall was all the more disheartening for the weaker cultivators. The tens of thousands of years that followed… chaos reigned.
They forced Draoidh until most fled to the lower realms, nearly wiped out and exhausted. They went into hiding and became known as the Druids of the Oak. The Druid Order wasn’t the powerhouse it had been, and only nine of the major clans survived the calamity. Their bloodline weakened, as well as their prestige. Even the remaining clans fought amongst each other.
Already on the decline and near extinguished, the Maddox clan can only struggle for survival, but their foundation wasn’t a joke. Weakened, but not weak. The other clans will understand this difference soon enough.
Tur Briste, the Shattered Tower, awaits Crow’s ascension. Reaching the upper realms is only the first step in reestablishing the Draoidh. The Druids of the Oak remembered every betrayal and grievance, and they’ll return to power and reclaim what once belonged to them. The upper realms may have forgotten, but the Druid Order has not.
Please Note:1) This is harem story. There are only a few chapters with sex, and it’s not a focus of the story. I’ll only add graphic sex if I feel the story needs it, so not gratuitously. Either way, Crow has several women. This is in line with Druid/Celtic history, and harems/reverse harems were an accepted part of their culture. Further, they had open marriages, meaning the man or woman could end their marriage at any time. While it was still a patriarchy, women had almost equal power. They were a very progressive culture.
2) There is a period of a 30-50 chapters where Crow loses the ability to cultivate like a Druid so he adopts an eastern body cultivation method for a while. This is temporary, but some people feel it’s misleading, so I am pointing it out ahead of time. I promise, the Druid stuff comes back, and 90% of the lore/myths/creatures/gods are all related to Druid/Celt/Irish/Scottish history.
3) I use many original names, most of which are in Gaelic or Irish. In the story, I refer to this language as Ancient. I enjoy all kinds of folklore and myths, so I encourage you to google those original names as they arrive. I give some background on them at the end of the chapter in my author’s note.
4) I use Ogham runes a lot, these are like the Druid alphabet, and they based each rune on a sacred tree so they also have symbolism associated with them. Again, feel free to google that too. It’s pretty neat stuff.
Quick Translations:Draoidh = DruidTur Briste = Shattered Tower or Broken Tower
Release Schedule:As of Oct 1, 2021- 3 chapters released every Sunday (May have up to two bonus chapters)- Side character chapters… this might be bonus chapters I release through the week. So they won’t count toward the 3 chapters on Sunday.- Please understand I work full time, have two kids, and can’t spare as much time as I’d like toward my writing. Maybe in the future I can switch to doing this full time, but for now 3 chapters is a comfortable pace for me.
Lastly… I very much appreciate all my readers and thank you for allowing me to entertain you!

- HillybobRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As most of the bad reviews show there are some tough spots in the first 60ish chapters. Otherwise this is a fantastic story. It is well developed with a deep lore. It's harem but I don't feel like it's the standard harem trope. The main character and his wives are all fully developed characters and can and do function independently.
- CiellandrosRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a fascinating take on cultivation with a lot of interesting world building.
However, by far my favorite part of the story is the mc and all the interesting characters throughout the story. Compared to a lot of other stories, nearly every character is unique, interesting, and fleshed out. Interactions between them can result in all sorts of fun and interesting scenes and truly make them feel like real people.
It's not perfect, but I honestly struggle to think of anything truly to critique it. Maybe on a second read through I'll see some, but for now, I'll just keep on enjoying the weekly ride.
All in all, it's excellent and you should read it and support it on patreon. - Dingo_shablinkoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Style may well be my favourite part of this story. Every chapter begins with great flavour text, a quote from a god in the book. Sometimes these sort of things can feel like filler, but I find them to really add a great feel to this story. This story manages to fit in additional POVs from time to time, and does so to enhance the plot. This is a sticking point for many other authors on RR, but it is pulled off so smoothly here.
The story is fantastic. The main character does not simply drift from victory to victory growing ever stronger as found in most cultivation stories. He encounters hardships and setbacks that keep the plot interesting and multi dimensional. The author pulls together a wealth of myths and legends to create a interesting and dynamic characters that are fun to read.
The grammar is strong. I found the occasional typo, and a few clunky sentences, but overall it did not detract from my immersion into the story.
The main character is great. He manages to be strong, funny, and admirable for the 100+ chapters that I followed him through. The male side characters are distinct and interesting.
My greatest critique of the story is the characterization of the female love interests. I found them hard to tell apart. While they all have a distinct back story, and all progress in their own fashion, they have an indistinguishable hyperaggressive, somewhat bullying approach to interacting with the MC. The author is so great at making interesting characters, I hope he can begin to grant the love interests each a distinct voice.
This is the first advanced review I've written, and I felt like this story really deserves it. It's a great story and I hope to be able to follow it as it progresses to the top of RR - Kemkais KRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story is very good and merits more recognition.
first of all style, the story is fluid and read easily. Some clunky paragraph here or there and a bit infodump also in one particular chapter (the one about beast lords) but it is relatively ok as it gets better the further we advance
The story : this is where the author shines as he puts a lot of research into it and it shows. The universe is rich and the introductory paragraph at the beginning of each chapter really add weight to the universe he wove.
character : quite a diverse of character with depth and backstory. I feel that some author neglects the backstory of side character or portray them in such a stereotypical way. That is not the case here. I will recommend the author spend a little more time on physical description of the character so that reader can better visualise them.
grammar : English is not my first language so I evaluated instead mistakes like use of the wrong name character, continuity issue and the like. It is more like editing mistake and there are a few. Understanbly so as the author does not have an indépendant reviewer but it did not detract me from the enjoyment of the story.
Overall a solid story that deserves more recognition - KratixRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I have enjoyed reading this story and decided to review it because I think it deserved more visibilty and I know a lot of people don't read story without a lot of review.
The story progress slowly, but there isn't boring moments. I am clearly not a pro in grammar but I don't think there are a lot of mistakes. The characters all seem very real to me,(except maybe with the 'authority' in general: the MC meet very powerful people soon and he sometimes do things that should have consequences bigger than what happen)
The system of druid cultivation is very interesting to me, but I think the MC has a little to much potential and not enough actual power. - AdirellRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story is slow-burn, but packing fits it, it reads well. It's a story for readers appreciating well-build worlds, with rich culture and solid society. The blending of celtic lore with cultivation is pretty original and well-executed. We can clearly see how MC is progressing as he ages.
Characters are likeable and interesting, although their development could use some work.
Overall, I would recommend this story. - DovosRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It is one of the better books you will find here, sadly the author stopped writing it for some unknown reason.
It has great details in how the skills and cultivation works and the druid background and mythology are researched pretty good and then adapted into the world settings. So no not historically accurate but also not spun up from nothing.
The story has the usual ups and downs that could take some editing and rewriting but that's the usual issues of web novels.
I really hope the author finds time again to continue the book even if it means to scrap the last 10 or so chapters if he got stuck in the new arcs research or story building.
What is written and published doesn't have to be the last version and can be changed. - ShoelessmeRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Edit: was not harem tagged when I started and I didn't keep reading to see it. Don't want to torpedo the author now, but take the review below as only to chapter 18.
Not sure why this has not had a review yet. Its definatly worth a read.
1. Style: I very much like the styel of this. I have not gotten to any hard core cultivation chapters yet so I am curious where he is going to go with it. That said the world that has been set up seems pretty deep and wide at this point.
2. Grammar: More than a few screw ups and problems with missing words in sentences. Not the end of the world though and not greatly distracting. Things like Depressent rather than depressing. You can still understand the point easily. An example of that in chapter 11 is '
“And the trial on this bottom floor?”
“It is."
'
And the trial is on this bottom floor?
Sure its a mistake, but its pretty easy to figure out the meaning and is not majorly distracting.
Story: I have not read enough of the story to give it a high rating yet. Its still early in a very slow burn story. Still it has done some nice emotional pulls with the mother and father. I am a bit worried about the descriptions of cultivation. Spirit, Qi, energy, soul. We get a brief glimpse that people in different places cultivate differnt things.... but it seems all very cosmetic. no matter what they cultivate it still leads to origin and shields. Seems a might linear. Hopefully i will be wrong on that front as we move along.
Character: Small problem with teh MC. he has perfect memory down to emotions and smells and witnessed some very tramatic things very early in life. He should be in a nut house by now! That said I have no interest in reading about a moping emo MC so please dont add chapters of him going nuts. Still it sticks out as a hole in the logic of the story. Perfect memory would be a curse as much as a blessing. Never able to forget your mistakes or the tradjedies that happened to you....
Over all I enjoyed the - luda305Royal Road★★★★ 3.5It's a really good take on worldbuilding. A Gaelic xianxia type thing. Pretty neat.
The main hangup I have is that the writing style is a little rough, particularly the transitions within a chapter between different scenes or lines of thought. This is something I often find in translations and so I think perhaps its an imitation of those. On the other hand, I suspect that after several hundred chapters that the author probably has started fixing this in new chapters, but the story just isn't compelling enough for me to deal with these difficult to follow chapters.
On a lesser note, the characters are not great (at least within the first 10 chapters). I have a hard time relating to the protagonist and he's not written in a way that makes him particularly likeable. He's a bit of a golden boy/young master, but also kind of flat as a character. In no small part, it probably doesn't help that one of the defining moments in his life happened in the very first chapter when he was like 3 y.o. Which fine, that one bad thing helped define you, but you don't really have any other characteristics do you? Even after some time skips and he's older, he really doesn't have much personality (at least, as of when I stopped reading).
I'm also not particularly enthused with the plot. There's this theme about people who entirely predictable and not moored to fate, but ironically, I feel like the protagonist gets railroaded quite often by the pre-existing actions of others.
