- AlyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0In a place where lying isn't nearly as common as it is in our world, the truth has even more power than we can even fathom. What happens when people from outside the town come in, with their own truths, or their own versions of events? What happens to people that DO lie in this town? It's all part of a really big, juicy mystery that has me hooked.

This story is extremely competently written. Outside of a sparse few paragraphs that are short info dumps, nearly everything is shown rather than stated, giving the narrative a very screenplay-like flow. Descriptions are concise and to the point so it doesn’t feel like there’s much fat at all, which keeps the velocity of the story moving along very nicely. There is enough distance between the story and the characters that you aren’t given the entire picture at once, making it engaging and rewarding to continue reading. There are a couple spots where the time frame shifts significantly without warning, and those can be a bit jarring, but otherwise the narrative is exceedingly well crafted.
Truthfully there were some words I didn’t recognize and had to search up to learn; I don’t consider that a bad thing!
Story
As mentioned, the pacing (for what's been written so far) is very smooth and enough information is revealed to keep it interesting. If I had to pick a weak point, I'd say the first chapter might give the impression of a slower story, although it sets up the (as of yet unresolved) mysteries for later, so that's not a terrible thing. There are a lot of lines you can read between and it hits the right notes to make it clear that something is off, but it’s not clear what or why or how. All the kinds of things I like seeing in a mystery novel! Obviously it’s not finished but I don’t get the feeling these are random dangling plot threads used as bait for reader engagement. I get a very real sense that the author has a plan and a goal in mind, and the story is working towards that resolution, even if I’m not sure what it could be.
Grammar
For all intents and purposes, flawless. There are a few choppy sentences and sentence fragments, but they aren’t ‘wrong’ since they make sense and work in context of the writing style. It’s all very well put together.
Character
Since there aren’t exactly 1000 pages of material, there’s not too much to delve into in regards to - BullerRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Not fun as in straight comedy. Honestly, it's as far from it as possible. With a buttload of questions that just aren't getting answered, and likely wont get answered for quite a while, I'm left to wonder how this story is going to resolve itself. It's definitely shaping up to turn into a long-fic with how many things needs to get explained before me and any of the readers are left satisifed.
Obligatory style and grammar are fine. 4.5/5 from me. - TEZofAllTradesRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Good use of 3rd person perspective. Consistent formatting but it's in a large bold font, which is a little jarring. Writing is very descriptive but overly detailed at times for non-important actions e.g. making tea need only be "she made a cup of tea"... No issues with spelling or grammar. Some odd punctuation choices. The author is a talented writer, but the story needs a stronger hook as nothing of consequence really happens until chapter 4, and even that is mainly information rather than anything eventful. I think the idea has potential, though. Good luck with the rest of the book!
