- KaizerPlusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really enjoyed the author's previous work, so I was a bit sceptical when the MC turned out to be a so called "good guy." At times, he genuinely annoys me, but his growth throughout the chapters has been more than evident. He's not a loner, and he doesn't try to tackle challenges alone, even if he keeps some questionable company. The story had kept me gripped until the last chapter, and I'm looking forward to any future chapters. The characters are pretty intriguing and like any other rrlreader I love watching the numbers go up. Which they often do. His abilities are pretty unique too as far as most other works I've read that are similar.
The grammar isn't anything that's world changing but it is solid and I see no problems with it. If there are mistakes the author is willing to go back and change it which is a plus.
As a word of advice, I quite enjoy how vast and interesting the city is, along with the various religion and magic dynamics, but I'd also like to see a bit more of the outside world. I think other than that its pretty solid rn.
Hope to see more from this author! - hellonaviRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The idea of the MC becoming something like a grim reaper intrigued me from the start. While he hasn't gotten there just yet, he's taking steps on becoming someone you wouldn't want to see knocking on your door.
Style. Descriptions of places, gods, magic and everything else are vivid and lifelike. It leaves the viewer to imagine strange sights and monsters while keeping dialogue short and effective. Not much to say here. If I didn't like how the author wrote, I wouldn't be reading the novel.
Story. It starts off slow despite the initial action scene, but as the MC gets more skills and gets closer to his goals, he begins to go on more interesting adventures and meet more characters. In particular I like the fact that you can see the consequences of him messing with beings he shouldn't. Also, the whole religion aspect is very well done. Excited to see more of the targets MC has to deal with.
Grammar. Better than most stories on this website. I didn't notice any mistakes while reading through it.
Characters. I think the MC is realistic more than anything. He has been in a hospital bed and dealing with an illness for the last few years, so it makes sense he would be a bit slow to adapt to a new world. I'd say the MC is a bit unguarded towards others at first, but that noticably changes with time. The other characters are interesting and with their own individual backstories that aren't mentioned.
Overall, I really like the story the story. Definitely interested to see how it develops in the future. - xbb-trnkRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm not a professional reviewer, so I'll try to be succinct but helpful.
Characters:
Side characters are interesting, I'd say that they are mostly one-dimensional, but that should be fine for such a light story. The main character, alas, is an utter disappointment, and his reasoning and decisions sometimes make you want to get up and bang your head against the wall. Some can disagree, viewing him as an average, normal, down-to-earth guy. Based on what I've seen, he's rather a spineless slug of a man: no principles except some vague morals based on what he picked up in his previous life, no goals, no aspirations and ambition.
Story:
I'm not sure here. The events seem interesting, but there's no grand plot yet. On the other hand, I can see many directions it can go, and they promise to be entertaining to see.
Grammar:
Mostly good, although not without flaws.
Style:
It is a pleasant experience - provided you have the imagination to see it. I really enjoyed the so-to-say "visual" element of the story. Sometimes it was going over the top with the excess of colors, making me suspect that the author himself didn't imagine all the details they were writing, but my point still stands. I was able to really immerse myself in the story, thanks to that.
Overall:
So, when I thought about what overall score I should put, I answered two questions: whether I enjoyed the reading and whether I gained something from it. The answer is Yes in both cases. - Buzz1089Royal Road★★★ 3.0Let's just listen to a random fortune teller, and swear to serve a god I know nothing about, so I can get a job I don't even know I can perform, to pay someone back without talking to that someone at all about what my options are, all within a single day.
The MC is an idiot.
The story is an interesting concept but the character ruins it by majorly rushing through decisions before getting any real information about what those decisions mean.
YOU'RE IN A NEW WORLD! DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE MAKING LIFE ALTERING CHOICES! - z3211Royal Road★★★ 2.5The only issue I had with the story was the MC and he's decision to find himself in a bad situation by getting employed for a job and instead of walking away and cutting losses he decides to stick at it, which only makes his situation worse.
(More in-depth below, might contain spoilers):
The MC was in need of a job to pay back someone for healing him so decided to join a church that was in need of a exorcist (perfect fit for a Soul Reaper), first thing that happens is that the god of the church almost kills him. Decides still take on the job, almost dies to spirits in test to receive the job, almost dies to same god again, almost dies to rival church, all this happens in like three days. Doesn't decide to ditch the job and run from the church.
Note: He had other options available to him, was offered by the man who healed him to join their guild (Guild is big enough that nobles want to join), refused his offer cause he joined the church (Note: the god had almost killed him twice before this). - Slug2448Royal Road★★ 1.5From what we have seen, this story has so much potential and the world is super compelling; but every time the MC does something or starts speaking or thinking it's ruined. I am unsure of how to describe it but it's like the MC does not fit in with the world or setting the author is trying to create. Things happen to the MC out of packet like Morvina almost killing him twice for no discernable reason, or the MC suddenly becoming entitled and arrogant asshole when he uses his Gate of Reincarnation. The story feels aimless because the MC does not do things things happen to the MC and he reacts. There are other instances of things happening that either have no prior build-up or feel unnatural.
I sincerely hope that the MC improves.
