Description
Young Call-Center worker Nie Ruyi falls into an entirely new world, where her knowledge of monster types (gained by playing various Video Games, reading Fantasy Novels, and her weekly Dungeons and Dragons group) help her to create a whole new form of Cultivation.
During her rise to power as a Beast Tamer, Nie Ruyi finds herself put into the care of reknowned Pill Master, Lao XiaoJun, by his sister, the Sect Leader that summoned Nie Ruyi. This simple fact drew to her the attention of Cai Bingtian, the Seal Master rival intent on showing up Lao Xiaojun in any way he can.
Caught in the crossfire between these two hot-and-cold men, will Nie Ruyi live a life of adventure and joy, or one of woe and heartache?

- KirbyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall, this is worth your time. And mine.
I'll start with the MC. Nie Ruyi is funny and flawed in the best ways. She has backstory. Her personality comes through in subtle ways. We learn about what's in her purse, the people she misses when she is transported to a new world. She struggles with her sudden change in circumstance. Naturally. And yet often overlooked in our genre. But it makes her real.
Next, and this might be my favorite part. The language and content is funny, in subtle ways. It reminds me of hanging out with a friend who has great situational humor. They don't make fun of people or tell jokes. Instead, you create ridiculous situations together. That's what it feels like.
The world. The author wields details with precision. People in power ordering servants around with a flick of their fingers. Scrolls. Our MC is curious about every little thing to discovery it. This is a cultivation novel, meditation and spiritual energy. It's also slice of life. You don't dive into fights; instead, you get to experience the mundane in a vivid way. A bath with shampoo left in a bowl. Chinese culture, rife with subtle details like the diction in which people speak and lessons in manner.
As for the story, Nie Ruyi finds her quest within moments of starting the book. A DRAGON. There will be training, tactics, and fighting! Or will her enemy turn out to be not of the dragon species at all?! I'm five chapters in, but I know that things won't be simple. I don't know who's good and who's bad. What motivations lurk behind the actors. But they're there. I can tell. Because the author is intentional.
Grammar and style. The language is excellent. With active verbage and clean sentences. Cadence.
This is the kind of story I can settle into, hopefully with rain drizzling outside, and savor. If I drank tea, I'd read it with tea. To get caught up in the world, the mystery, the characters, the humor. Highly recommend. And excited to continue.
