- Akten DreamsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall - The story is very lighthearted in its makeup. It lends itself easily to reading for almost anybody and therefore most people will love the story. However, I have this sneaking suspicion that if it were in a Visual Format like a Manga/Comic, it would be much better, as it would be much easier to transmit the various emotional states and reactions.
Style - It's a 1st-PoV style and it lends itself quite well to any reader. The only bad thing about it really is that there is a difference between the first volume, the second, and the third in chapter length and clarity. Won't be talking about the difference between the 1st and the 2ed, as the 1st is under rework so the dichotomy of old and new is very clear. That said the difference between the second and the third for the most part is the chapter length, as the word count slowly increases.
Grammar - Personally, I am not the best person to judge grammar in a story, but I had no trouble at all reading the message of the story. One could argue that it was easy on the mind.
Story - There is a dichotomy between the reworked chapters in the first volume, I will skip that part. Although it is not as bad as it sounds, the difference is clear in both quality and quantity. That said, the story itself is very light on the heart. Events flow from one thing to another very nicely. At the same time it's also quite quick you could say defers to the Adventure Tag of the story. Personally, I liked the 3ed and 4th volumes the most. As by that time, the author had developed both the story and the skill of writing.
Character - Character traits are fairly distinguishable between Lune and Edward. The story is more geared towards Lune, especially early. But Ed gets his own time in the 4th volume. With that said, both characters experience character growth, which is normal with characters so young undergoing a journey. My biggest problem is how the romance was portrayed. It wasn't bad or anything like that, but let's just say that it - JakeyBoiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Damn, just found out I have to write a whole essay just to review this lmao.
As some of you folks may or may not know, I'm the illustrator for this fiction. Now I know you may feel my review is a bit biased because of this, but I have read the story up to Volume 3 and plan to give a completely honest review. I will say though that the story is exactly what i imagine a light novel to be, which is what Lash told me he wants this to be. I am certain that he'll accomplish his goal, if not for the banger comedy then for the awesome story.
This guy is someone whose storytelling is without fault, and during our time working together he would very strongly put emphasis on wanting me to do an anime-style cover despite me warning him it might not appeal to as many people.
Lune as a character reminds me of him a lot actually (go figure), since they're both mega passionate and really want to push for doing things their own way. As an artist, I completely understand where he's coming from, so reading this story really made me feel like I was just reading about him. When I was coming up with rough drafts of Lune's likeness based on the descriptions Lash gave me, I tried to imagine what "adventure personified " looked like, and I think he turned out ok.
The side characters are cool too. Ed being the sort of brains while also being a bit dumb at times is good comic relief, and the others accompanying them on their journey (no spoilers) really do feel fleshed out.
With that being said, I'd like to end this review by thanking Lash for commissioning me, and I'm really glad I get to be a part of this promising project! - MinionMasterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Ive just started reading Volume 2, and this has been amazing so far. Ive been reading it on and off for the past few days ever since searching for a good action adventure on this site, and it hasnt disappointed
Style wise it started off quite badly, as the chapters were unbearably short, but I pulled through because you mentioned it gets fixed later. At first I wanted to rate style 3.5 stars because of this, but the difference between Volume 1 and Volume 2 is night and day. It deserves an extra star definitely
Grammar is perfect, no issues at least that I could find, and I find the story sort of guide me through the chapters because of this. Grammar is a difficult thing to get right, Ive seen way too many people make either spelling mistakes or just format wrongly. But yours is good, 5 stars
Story wise its got a really interesting plot. The main character, Lune Grimheart, wants to travel across the world and document it just like the idol that he adores, Schnell. This Schnell person is also mentioned sometimes in conversation, which is a nice touch. The reason Lune wants to travel the world is because of an interesting thing in this story called Iros. I really like that gimmick. Having a characters eyecolor subtly hint at how they perceive the world is a smart way of introducing us to them, while also telling us theres much more to Iros than we first might be led to think. Also easy 5 stars
I gave the characters a score of 4.5 simply because they kind of feel a bit too naive, at least in this Volume. Id really like a character that doesnt go along with all of Lunes antics, since they all seem to just accept his ideas immediately, not really thinking about it. I guess for some of Lunes ideas he just does them without talking it out with his friends, since hes a "Do first ask questions later" type of character, at least for me. In any case, I think this rating is fair
Overall, great potential to grow into something amazing, and I cant wait to read the next Volumes. Yo - MSMRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0A boy in a peaceful village finds his loving parents smothering and his sleepy town boring, so resolves to get the hell out of there before he goes insane. He drags his best friend with him, and they get into a number of adventures revolving around muggers, girls, fake grandparents, and restaraunts.
Lune is an aggressively adventurous boy from an aggressively unadventurous family. He's read every adventure story he's ever gotten his hands on, and he's going to be part of an adventure if he has to run out and hunt it down himself.
Overall, this feels like a kid's book, and I don't mean that in a bad way. The perspective feels absolutely right for the age, constantly thinking highly of himself and then realizing "nope, we're idiots who fell for an incredibly obvious scam." It's light-hearted and fun, just a story about traveling the world with your bud and meeting people along the way. It almost feels like a roadtrip story, just hanging out in one town for a bit and then moving on. If this took place on Earth, they'd be a couple of hippies with a van.
My primary problem with the book is that the prose didn't grab me. Far from a deal-breaker, but it's what I had the biggest problem with. - RuralDimwitRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The author has stated that volume 1 is currently being reworked, so I won't critique that section here specifically. I think I'd actually recommend new readers start at volume 2 until volume 1 is finished. Volume 1 wasn't easy to read at all.
Style - the writing tends to be brief with plenty of fun, snarky asides. Sometimes it's a bit confusing, but it's not so bad that you can't make sense of it. Vol. 1 was more aggressive with showing off the narrator's personality and, while I'm glad vol. 2 is a lot clearer, I kind of miss the strength of Lune's narration in vol. 1.
Grammar - Drastically improves in vol. 2 - still not perfect, but there's nothing completely illegible. I suspect some of the weirder errors are just autocorrect inserting the wrong words here and there.
Story - The story is cute and fun. Some things don't make a ton of sense - gangsters aren't usually known for civic-minded behaviour, for example. I don't think these oddities detract too much from the story though. Just don't think too hard about it.
World building - I think the eye-colour thing needs to be emphasised a little more - it feels a bit tacked-on at times. I see red described as 'scary,' yellow described as someone with leadership qualities, and green described as childish, but I don't see people shunning the red-eyed kid for being a danger to society, people making dismissive comments about 'green-eyed simpletons', or people offering any deference to the yellow-eyed kid. This seems like something that should shape the way everyone in this world interacts, but it barely makes an appearance.
Character - Many of the characters seem far too generous or trusting, and are often unrealistically kind. I don't think this is a flaw, necessarily, it just makes it clear that this is a fun, light read, not something gritty and realistic. I don't need to read stuff that makes me sad all the time. I have the news for that.
If you do want to feel awful, this may not be the story or cast of characters fo
