- davnykRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really love city/kingdom building stories and litrpg. And this story is an awesome mix of both with good balance of construction, combat and town management. The virtual reality context of the story doesn't really play that much of a role though. The NPC behave basically behave like real people with worse potential than the players. I think I would like it more as a isekai story but then some things like the NPC auction wouldn't really make sense. But overall I think this is one of my most favorite stories I read so far and hope the author continues writing it.
- PrashantjainRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Love the Town/Kingdom builder genre. This type of fantasy truly incorporates it all - building litrpg, crafting, romance, the works.
The author builds a great story, weaving a complex matrix from base levels. The narrative is crisp, maintains the readers interest and has an actual story, a multi layered story from what I have read so far.
The MC is cool, the support characters are well defined and seems real. Hope the story maintains its tempo.
Overall a great read and a great example of the "Kingdom building" genre. - RockTheSecondRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Ive always been partial to stories in this loose subgenre of leadership/management, which really blows because very few stories actually exist in it, much less good ones. So, I was quite happy to come across this one, and was even more so to find it was one of the better ones ive read.
The Good
-one of the very few "leadership" style stories where being a leader actually DOES really affect the MC's abilities, options, and actions. Theres no one man army here
-good cast of side characters, well integrated into the setting
-fairly unique and overall good use of LitRPG system
-though it does need some more depth in a few minor aspects, the overall integration of the VR system and Isekai method is good and ties into the story even well past the beginning
The Bad
-desperately needs an editing pass. the way I understand it this is more of a side project story for this author, and their main work does have an editor (the difference shows), so this is well within the realm of possibility someday
-some core systems/activities the MC uses are a little shallow in description, super spoiler section to follow explaining more (you have been warned)
this mainly concerns the blueprint/building system, more specifically the variance and progression in them early on in the story. theres a very good foundation here, in that they help reflect the passion, effort, and advancement of the protagonist in their creation and in this way it casts itself as one of the core aspects of the plot. The issue is that, especially early on, the projects all feel somewhat samey and disjointed. Theres a very evident cycle of draft>>quickly build>finish and move on to next item on list that, even with the rest story surrounding it not suffering this issue, shines through in a negative way. I think a lot of this comes from a general lack of specialized requirements for the different buildings. Theres very little like "I need my offensive guard force to go get enough iron ore to have my blacksmith that I s - SpaceCadetRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have read a few "in game" litrpg, and get really tired of the out of game politics, and sabotage of livestreams. Worst of all is the player killers, or those who just seem to want to loot rape and pillage every NPC.
Town Builder touchs on these gently but so far has steered clear. The MC is stuck in the game 24/7, and is maybe trying to get out. Realistically I wouldnt want to get out if I was him. He has a much better life inside.
The characters are great, as the number of characters increased, it became a little challenging to remember who was who, so some type of subtle reminder would be great when seldom used character reappears.
Really enjoyable wholesome story so far. - The_Great_ZaxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is the best story on RR! I can’t state how highly I recommend this story. If you have even the slightest enjoyment of city/kingdom building then this is the story for you. I rarely take the time to write out a review but I couldn’t help myself because I want othered to get as much enjoyment from this story as I have!
- ChromatopiaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5If you like litrpg with town building elements then this is the story that you can binge for.
Good spacing
Well though out litrpg system - it shows the dynamisms of every skills, complex but can easily digest
I suggest that you should add GameLit tag and also fix the sypnosis, when i first read the sypnosis i thought that it is an isekai but it is a VR game so adding GameLit tag may prevent people to mislead - DWinchesterRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5(Note - I have only read half of this monster chapter.) The author did a really great job here. If you want a light read of a protagonist that make's people's live better one board at a time this story is for you. The author takes his system very seriously, and it shows real thought. Releasing 166 pages in one shot is impressive in it's own right, but he makes it fun too.
My only complaint is that even in the moments of peril the protagonist never really feels in jepordy, but maybe that will change as I get further along. - CrazymonkRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Firstly, the plot of the story is amazing, with fleshed out exploration of each step of the village. The system is also good.
One thing that didn't sit well with me is the MC's laid back attitude with the management of the town and his single minded focus on only building stuff.
P.S. you might want to add the ruling class tag - Star RevenRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0mc doesnt have an exponential power curve and has constant setbacks. also loming threats in game and IRL add great tention. Also, the story raises some questions about the nature of the AI in the story but has only been explored a bit at this point. 5 stars if the author does persue that as well.
- Mr Alex666Royal Road★★★ 3.0While I usually don't like Gamelit that much, this story drew me in, and I binge-read it in short order.
Story: the MC got into an accident and was hard-wired into the newst and best VR-Game as a beta tester. Nothing new here. He didn't go down the path of murderhobo, but a crafter - nothing new there either. He somehow got himself a village, he tries to renovate and make into a thriving commonity - that is more like new. Said village is in tha a-end of the world, wedged between mid- to high-level regions, so the MC does not have an easy way to level up by farming weasels. The whole promise just clicks.
Style: Nothing really bad, nothing really outstanding. The Gamelit parts are either light, or go into deep detail, there is no middle ground
Character: well, it is a GAME, so don't expect a highly evolved AI to steer even the last street urchin. You will get only the MC and a small handfull of "core" NPCs, and while the latter have - supposedly - detailed backgrounds, we don't get informed about them. The MC never asked or investigated... The MC himself... Albeit he is the village lord, he mostly just builds stuff without much of personal interactions with his NPCs (save one). While it's actually logical from a game perspective, he wants to view his NPCs as real people, but still doesn't interact with them that much. While he isn't the usuall cheater, who would find every last bug in the (new) game to exploit and get OP, he is sometimes a bit bland. Could use some more detail.
Grammar: this is the point, where the fiction sucks. The grammar is simply atrocious. Barely a sentence without typos, missing, superflouos, misplaced, nonsensical or simply wrong words. Or wrong syntax. A good part of those could be get ridden of, if the author would use a spellcheck or a onceover. Unfortunately, it seem like even the pointed out mistake are not corrected. The fic needs serious editing.
All in all, quite a good story, with not much problems with style, so-so characters, the ra
