- Auntie May's Little CousinRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Swords or Roses depicts the story of an alien race that lost its planet to their own greed for power, and intents to colonize Earth. I find extremely interesting how the author stages a scenario similar, if not identical, to what might happen to us humans in the future. A little hard to follow at first, because the worldbuild is shown in tiny disarranged bits of the story, but I assume this won't be an issue once the sotory develops further. All in all, a fairly promising sci-fi story with an interesting plot and even a small lesson to teach.
- Zeit-GeistRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5So first off, I find the ideas intrieging, the worldbuilding seems interesting and most of all it trickers through that there is much the reader still doesnt know.
Now there asre some things that can be improved on. Mostly style, and what to present the reader with. The biginning drags on a bit and it would be better to be introduce what is happening with actuall scenes. My other tip is to avoid talking too much about Politics before we do not have a personal connection to the places, because quite frankly their fate does not bother us as long as we know no one from that place.
I like the way the storie is heading, and I have the feeling you are already improving from chapter to chapter.
Also another alternative to stating your poletics is building them into the story. you want the main character to experience their impact, see people suffer and lament or celebrate and gush about what is thought of by those up above.a a a a a a a a a a aa a aa a a a a a a a a a aa a a a a a aa a a a aa a a a aa - Jojo125Royal Road★★★★ 4.0A very interesting idea that kept me going through the first chapter. However, there was much name dumping without scene building at the beginning. Personally, it takes me a while to get invested in characters and care about why they do certain things. Jumping into the politics without establishing much backstory to why I should be caring about the outcome makes it hard for me to follow along. Still, the irony and setting up of future conflict allows for a understanding of where the story will progress. I would like to see establishing a connection to the characters to allow us to relate to them and the areas they have settled in before moving towards action. A little tweaking and this crazy idea will come to life as I already see you have many ideas planned. Good start!
- desopeRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Sorry I am not really good at reviewing, but I can see so many potentials in this novel. The author is good at setting up plots and flags. Looking forward to how the story goes on futher. Either it's the setting, place, description, characters, and conflicts, they are set neatly that you won't realize that you have read all of it
Cheers to the author! - dum-tankRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5(Initial review, posted after Chapter 3 was dropped. May be updated later as story continues).
OVERALL
The story is still in its early stages, but has some great potential! The prologue clearly demonstrates how reprehensible the villains are as they infiltrate earth, murdering inconvenient actors with really nasty means.
The first three chapters focus on the protagonist, Izzy, as she enters training school to become a pilot in what is essentially the Yan's Airforce. Izzy, being royalty, is concerned about fitting in despite her status, and tries to figure out how to reconcile her royal duties with her soldierly ones. As the story is in its early stages, we'll have to wait and see how that conflict pans out.
STYLE
This seems to be a very early draft, so judging on style doesn't seem quite fair, hence the three stars. The prologue starts in Third Person Omniscient and then transitions into Third Person Limited starting with Chapter 1. This works, I think, because the prologue is very much focused on exposition and establishing the villains while the story proper is more interested in exploring Izzy as a character. I'm looking forward to seeing how the style develops as the story goes on.
GRAMMAR
Again, perhaps not the fairest thing to critique this early in the game, hence the three stars. Overall, there is some type editing and convention stuff that should be seen to, but it's easy to follow the prose and understand the ideas LC presents in her writing.
STORY
The story right now is focusing on Izzy and exploring how she becomes a pilot. However, given the prologue, I expect that we will see Izzy clash with the cult that has popped up on Earth, and I'm looking forward to seeing how that will turn out.
CHARACTER
The villains are evil, the friends and family are warm and welcoming, and Izzy seems to have some real demons to reckon with. We haven't learned too much about her past yet, but she definitely has regrets and seems uncomfortable with her station as the heir to
