Toad Town (Dungeon Core Parody)

Self-Published

Description

Toad Townis a dark-comedy parody of the Dungeon Core / CoreLit genre of stories, and follows a similar progression system, yet is distinct from typical CoreLit, as, rather than being a dungeon aimed at killing adventurers to grow, Toad and his town develops through reaching construction milestones and such. This unintentionally leads to far more deaths than your average Dungeon... the majority of these deaths are from his own minions though...Follow along as a witless Toad and his overworked-and-frustrated Guiding Fairy try to make sense of a completely new type of Core in a world rife with Dungeon Cores. Read as they battle a Honking Menace and their very own System, all to achieve the evolutions of Toad's Settlement Core.

Along the journey, you will ask such questions as "Why am I reading this? This is really dumb..." and make comments like, "Perhaps this is God's judgement for the transgressions of mankind..."

Toad Townwill aim towards the goal of being so absurdly moronic that it defies even such adjectives.

WARNING: as you follow the 'plot', you may experience repeated contractions of your diaphragm or the exhalation of air through your nostrils. Anything can happen with a concept this astronomically dumb.

New chapter every Wednesday.

Shoutout toJack0fheartfor making the cover.(I wasnotforced to write this following paragraph at gunpoint)Jack is a very handsome and intelligent beast of a man, who is beloved by fair maidens the world over for his exquisite mastery of the smut genre of writing. His stories are a deep-dive into the true depravity one person can realistically commit themselves to writing, while retaining their sanity. I endorse his content greatly, especially the fantasy hypogamy.

It's a great story focused on the growth of development of the dungeon town and it's insane day to day activities and events, from bloodthirsty geese to nipple rubbing obsessed toad people.
this story is captivating to read in its own bizarre way that makes you laugh, and scratch your head in immense confusion when suddenly something has decided to go awry in the weirdest way possible for our MC
good read! Still reading, you should read too if your reading these reviews

What would you get when you combined a mentally damaged system, a fat dungeon fairy, a mutated goose as well as an inbred toad without any kind of ethics that got reincarnated as a buggy dungeon settlement core on it's path to world domination?
Gutwrenching fun. That's what you get.

As a fellow humanoid frog, let me tell you, my froggy friend, this story is a tadpole above the rest! It's like the author peeked into the secret lives of frogs and toads and turned it into a hilarious dungeon parody. I couldn't help but croak with laughter as I followed Toad, the witless protagonist, and his overworked-and-frustrated Guiding Fairy through their hilarious misadventures.
Toad's attempts to make sense of a completely new type of Core are as comical as trying to catch a slippery fly with my tongue. And the Honking Menace? Well, let's just say it's a honking good time!
But what really caught my froggy eye is how Toad's town develops through reaching construction milestones. It's like watching a frog build its own lily pad palace! And the interactions between Toad and his System? Pure froggy gold! It's like watching a frog trying to catch its own reflection in a pond, utterly hilarious and utterly relatable.
So if you're in the mood for a ribbit-tastic riot of a story that's as clever as a frog catching a mosquito mid-air, then "Toad Town (Settlement Core)" is the leapin' tale for you! Trust me, fellow humanoid frog, you won't be disappointed. It's a tadpole above the rest and a must-read for any Dungeon Core fan who's ready to ribbit their way through a hilarious adventure! Hop on over and join Toad's construction shenanigans today!

Dear brothers and sisters, today I am here to share with you the story of Toad Town, a captivating and enchanting tale of adventure, humour, and magic that will take you on an unforgettable journey.
The protagonist of our story is Toad, who wakes up in a cave and learns that he is not a human, but a toad who was killed by a goose. Toad seeks guidance from Imuxikwiht, the Squire-Lord of Guilty Pleasures and Minor Vices, who assigns him to build a farm and a settlement with humans.
As we listen to Toad's story, we can see how Lady Light has blessed him with the wisdom and guidance he needed to face the challenges and setbacks on his journey. Toad's struggle to build his settlement and work with humans is inspiring and engaging, and his non-human perspective adds a unique and fresh perspective to the adventure.
Just like Toad, we too can seek Lady Light's guidance and blessings to lead a fulfilling and happy life. In the face of strife and adversity, we can find comfort in her divine grace and know that we are not alone. Lady Light is the one true Divinity, and it is only through her grace that we can attain true happiness and enlightenment of the soul.
And just like Toad, we too can show our devotion to Lady Light by constructing a Church of Lady Light in our settlement. By making a small and steady donation to the church, we can attain enlightenment of soul, and when our time is due, her grateful embrace will find us and keep us safe for eternity.
Brothers and sisters, let us embrace the teachings of Lady Light and follow the path of righteousness and enlightenment. Let us read the tale of Toad Town with an open heart and mind and let its magic and wisdom guide us on our journey towards true happiness and fulfillment. Amen.
Do not forget to contribute one-fourth of all that you earn to the coffers of Lady Light's church. I highly recommend reading this to everybody or face divine purging! ♥

We've had a few novels on RR about monsters/animals being converted into a core, but they always end up a bit human.
Well don't worry, the 'whomens' in this have moist corneas with beautiful heads shaped like a toad. All part of the plan.
Also, they regularly get eaten by a overpowered goose.
Look, what I'm saying is: Read it. You'll laugh, guaranteed. Or at least find the experience enjoyable and lighthearted (unless you're a toad)
    Style:
Legendary. Dialogue is a blast, crazy fun to read. Everything about this is a masterpiece to read - I find myself reading every new chapter just as it comes out. The description of the core system and the way tags, actions and sequences are written just raises the quality of the book even higher.
    Story:
I wouldn't say the story is gripping, tension filled etc. It's a parody, so of course even the most gruesome of tributes or four minions dying just from standing still is part and parcel of the experience. Great for a no stakes read, just to relax and watch a toad muck around. It really sells the non-human aspect as well - more on that in Characters.
    Grammar:
    5/5
    Character:
BOI and TOAD is the literal lifeblood of the story (maybe the Goose too) but their dialogue is so witty and fun that the banter really drives the overall goofy feeling of the entire book. Ultra-specific references, misguided understanding of commands or instructions are all fuel for the comedy aspect, getting laughs and snorts out of me.
More people deserve to read this novel for sure, and the author is already well established, having written a couple of other fictions before. Be prepared for non-stop shenanigans and just a overall fun ride on 'whomens' who crawl and lick their own eyes. That's how a 'whomen' settlement is supposed to be.
Oh and the occasional minion death. At this rate the title might be 99 ways to die as a Minion.

Dungeon, no settlement core now with more deaths!... wait...
So a dungeon, no settlement core has to be human preferably reincarnated.  Then it's gotta spend the first 100 chaps lamenting all the deaths will murdering unrepentantly. K, now all it's monsters are harem members that it loves and cherishes and will never let die...
Non of that apply to Toad!  This agent of chaos goes around trying to check off life goals and somehow does that... on a pile of dead minions and slightly smaller pile of dead everything else.  If you enjoy chaotic characters that just have no idea this is for you!

This story is pretty entertaining. It is a nice sendup of the core progression genre. Not being the most serious of stories by intent, it sometimes seems to not know where it’s taking itself. However, that’s not really a distraction from the story as the main attraction of it is seeing the various ways that the characters twist the usual tropes to the advantage and destruction.

The author sent me a trade offer in n ad, saying that if I gave them time and attention, I would recieve a funny frog.
That was quite accurate. The frog is indeed funny, and worth the time to read, in my opinion. I was going to say that everyone is a moron, and the resulting trainwreck is hilarious, but actually  it's only the main characters, the gods, their minions and the surrounding population that are morons. Some of the System Support Imps, and that one shadow guy actually seem somewhat sensible.
Speaking of the System, I really like Dosei's take on the System.
No-one tell Toad that the author called him a frog, though. Them's fighting words.

Like junk food, Can be a good snack for the mind occasionally, but isn't great to binge have all the time.
3/5 stars, it's not the best, but it's not terrible either.
Personally read all available chapters at time of this review in 1 sitting, started becoming bored halfway through, like potatoe chips, enjoyed reading it, but then felt like was lacking substance, but it is a parody type fiction so opinions may differ from mine.

It is a really good story if you are looking for comedy. However there is a lot of different types of comedy. This story's comedy focuses on anything absurd and a very dumb/ unobservant main character who is a dungeon core.
The main character has to quickly grow his town full of toads to survive against being taxed from the neighboring kingdom and against dieing (again) from a goose which he accidentally made evolve into a two headed four winged monstrosity.
If this sounds interesting hopefully you will like it.
