Titansbane: A LitRPG Apocalypse

On the 18th of October 2022, the earth became hell. And not just in a figurative sense - a large portion of the earth's terrain was altered, inverted, upended, flipped, flopped or otherwise changed in ways minor or drastic. Entire cities and towns were translocated to different parts of the country (or even to the other side of the planet). And horrific creatures began to roam the planet, causing chaos everywhere they went. Why? well that can all be attributed to a godlike presence referred to as 'The System'.

'The System', being that it apparently had a flair for the dramatic, and prior to its restructuring of earth's landmass, announced its arrival with orchestra-like music and city-sized, videogame-like screens that would loom over every single city or town on the planet that informed humanity on how life on earth would proceed.

Concepts such as levels, stats, skills and even magic, all once thought fictional were apparently now real. To prove this fact, every sentient life-form on the planet now started to see status screens describing a person's stats, skills, health and... whatever 'Aether' was.

If none of that sounds too bad, well, the last few lines of the announcement stated that humanity had 24 hours to prepare before the terrain would shift and 'rifts' would spawn all over earth. It didn't actually explain what a 'rift' was or what it could do, but it sounded terrifying. So terrifying, in fact, that civilisation very quickly, and very violently (like really, REALLY violently) collapsed.

Oh right! The protagonist! Almost forgot, I am your protagonist. Name's Connor Richards. At the beginning of this story, I was 19 years old, I lived alone in Adelaide Australia and... well that's about it really. I didn't go to Uni, was barely hanging on at my current job and, aside from people I saw at parties, I didn't really have any friends. So, in short, my life was incredibly dull. How ungrateful I was to not realise how easy a dull life could be.
