Through the Void (and Back Again) [Progression Epic]

Description

Logan Brewer spends his days, well... brewing coffee. But shocker, that all changes when he dies.

Suddenly, he is dropped into a world of souls and sorceries, with both living and dead Gods watching over it. To survive, Logan will have to struggle, fight, make friends, and just maybe, if he gets lucky, meet a princess or two on his way back home. Or to the top of this new, strange world, whichever comes first. It's not like the coffee shop he worked at will miss him.

Author's Notes: Through the Void (and Back Again) is a slow burn fantasy, with LitRPG and Cultivation elements. It will include some romantic elements further into the plot, and implied sexual conduct, but nothing overtly adult is included in this work. Reminder as always, this is the draft of the novel, the final published version will be more polished. (Especially Act I, the final version is going to contain at least 5 more chapters, with all the added details and clarification that will provide.)

Schedule: Tuesdays through Saturdays @ 8:05 P.M. (C.T.)

    Excellent start and its picking up nicely! When are they going to meet?
    So far quite liking the magic structure, but not sure how it actually impacts the world or what he can do with it, will be interesting to see how the powers can maifest in the world. When you say there will be more LitRPG elements what do you mean?
    I like the soul powers as its always been my personal choice to be a Cleric/holy man/wizard with beasty powers type.

    Make sure you read up to chapter 5, but this is certainly a story to keep your eyes on. This is just the seeds of what I can see turning into a wonderful story! I have talked to the author and gotten additional details on some plot points, and this is a very unique concept for a story with an interesting source of magic and story.

    Inexperienced reviewer, beware
    The way Logan was transported into the world has been done time and time again, but if done well, it is still good. This was decent; the first sentence—right off the bat—intrigued me, which is good.
    Style: Nothing special to see here; not particularly verbose or grand, but it does the job.
    Grammar: On the first read-through I didn't notice any glaring issues.
    Character score: Only two characters have been shown thus far, with neither having a single line of dialogue. However, you can still get the just of their personalities and what they are like through their actions, and I've already taken a liking to both.
    Story: Cannot properly say at the moment, but it seems promising.

    First the good;
    Well thought out plot and dialogue. MC not too over powered but no weakling.
    The bad ; everyone is just too blase. I can accept Jeremiah not caring to much about the MC literally falling from the sky. But other characters reaction to the MC suddenly appearing is to much.
    That being said it is still a good story and I'm sure as time goes on it will be a very Polished story well worth the read.

    The style is a bit plain. There's also isn't much of a rpg system. More unpredictable cultivation with techniques.
    The MC feels like he lacks agency, rather than a lack of plot like kash suggests, he isn't shown to be motivated to do stuff, even when put in a stupid situation. For example;
    I'm fairly sure he gets assigned to an army squadron that is expected to die by the country for one reason or another.
    The grammar is decent, nothing of note.
    The character interaction is terrible. Their are four significant characters other than the MC. The first has minimal interaction then leaves the story by ch15, the next is constantly by the MC side and is rarely interacted with, the third is close by but is socially reclusive, the fourth is further away but would be glad to talk. The MC isn't shown to make effort with any of his relationships, at most putting in a token effort to build up team comradery on the way to missions.
    He doesn't seem to be interested in anything, no curiosity and no drive. The only thing that seems to move him is fear and that really doesn't keep me interested in the story.

    11 chapters in and there is yet to show up any plot in this story. Seems to be more of a power trip than anything else.
    It really is strange to me, how good stories (relatively speaking) can have harsh reviews on this website and then stories like this can have mostly 5 star reviews. I read so far only because of said reviews.
    Anyway no offense to the author. I'm just trying to be as constructive as possible here and that means brutal honesty. I'm all for slow burns but 11 chapters and nothing of significance having happened I have to call it as I see it.
    All the best to you.
