With the loss of the catalyst aethium, Vastrum's position has been crippled. Its enemies smell blood. Now the great empire of Rhakan stirs in the east, its smoldering anger awoken by an attempt on its newly crowned emperor's life. Meanwhile the Company sends its agents into the borderlands seeking a new source of the catalysts that power the empire's war wizards, stirring chaos. War is inevitable.

Meanwhile, Dryden and the Bloody 13th have been stationed in the eastern colony of Ayodh, near the border kingdoms that lie between Vastrum and Rhakan. Soon a war will begin and the veterans of the 13th Dragoons will be drawn in. Dryden, Mar, and more return, but they face a new kind of war against a more dangerous foe. They survived the arid wastes and undead of Vurun, but can they survive the jungles of Rhakan and its strange and powerful magic?

The chapters for this book are longer, as several people requested. As a result, I will be releasing chapters less frequently, I have not quite decided on a specific release schedule yet. I'll see how it feels as I go.

I have also decided to write multiple character perspectives, which was the second most requested addition. My backers asked for Mar chapters, so they're getting Mar.

    Synopsis:
Greedy capitalists start a war and cause rebellions at home, the cavallery has to deal with it.
    Bias:
I prefer novel story beads and am big on immersion. I have a general dislike of genres like litRPGs for that reason, that strain my suspension of disbelief. Luckily, all books of the series are as real as it gets. Still with magic and dragons, but also believable warfare and characters based in colonial time.
And a colonialist British Empire with magic is a very interesting premise. It is a time I find fascinating and as such, am predisposed to like.
    Story:
The Bloody 13th Regiment has new orders, after a diplomatic incident involving a borrowed knife, the Vastrum Empire and Rhakan are at war. As the cavallery regiment gets deployed in the jungles at the distant parts of the continent, rebellion is brewing in many vassal states at home.
    Slight Spoilers ahead:
After the V.A.C. mistreated the local population of Vurun, before the story of the last two novels, they did not stop creating troubles for the empire: Greed and unchecked power enabled the company to try not once, but twice to get rid of an unwanted ruler, resulting in turmoil.
As the campaign drags on and the isolated regiment has to make unconventional decisions and allies, they uncover the meddling of the V.A.C. to start the war and the resulting rebellions in many vassal countries. As the first two books complete one campaign of the 13th, the third one ends with the regiment on their way back home to adress the uprisings. So while the war woth Rhakan came to a close, the story still has more to give.
As in the two first books, the style is great. I found little to no grammatical errors and it is definitely book level writing.
    Tl;dr:
The Bloody 13th is riding to another expedition again, in the meantime their empire is threatening to disolve.
I really hope the author will not lose his passion for this series, it is a hidden gem and not one of the generic power fantasies. Keep up the good work!
