Threads of Power

Description
Gabe Tonmor has a pretty good life. With his natural affinity for life magic, he’s been able to make a steady living as a healer-for-hire despite only knowing a single spell. He works with different adventuring parties as they scout out entrances to the hidden Dweller civilization, though he’s adamant that he’ll leave the tunnel exploration to the real adventurers. Things change when a research group requests him by name to journey with them deep within the Iochant mountain range in search of a repository of ancient magical knowledge. Caught up in a web of foreboding prophecies and conspiracies, can Gabe defy the threads of fate and achieve his goal of becoming a Knotted wizard?
This is a progression fantasy web serial with gamelit elements that will become more prevalent later in the story. It has a bit of a slow start with heavy worldbuilding and magical lore in the beginning. The magic system is based around weaving threads of mana and that kind of imagery and metaphor is used extensively throughout the story. Updates are Monday and Friday at roughly 3 p.m. PST.
The tone is action-adventure with some slice-of-life coming later on. There is swearing, detailed fight scenes, some blood and gore, LGBTQ themes (the MC is gay), some romantic subplots (nothing explicit, no harems), and a heavy emphasis on the mechanics of the magic system. The MC is a bit naive at first as he doesn’t have much experience with the wider world so there are also some elements of coming of age as the plot develops. There is a weak to strong aspect but the MC won’t become OP. This is my first serious attempt at writing and I hope you all enjoy it!

- AsterBloomRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great worldbuilding, the start of a great adventure and a great premise on an interesting fantasy world with depth that can be further explored and interactions between cultures would be very interesting to read as it unfolds.
Characters need to have more fleshed out interactions and the pace for me seems too fast to be emotionally attached to the relationships the characters built. Love the MC so far, hopefully he grows through the story and he gets to be fleshed out more.
Would love to see more of the magic part of the world cause it seems to have been in the backburner at times and a magic study arc would be great in the future yo expand on the more fantastical part of the book.
Really great job author! Would reccomend reading but beware on the cliffhanger, hopefully the author picks this series back up cause I would love to witness what the author has in store more for our MC and how he interacts with the world and how his choices would shape the direction of the story.
9/10 would reccomend for a short read, very entertaining for me but it's up to you to explore more and find out if you like the story so far... - Herald of dreamsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I would like to say that as things stand this novel has now entered my top 10. The author has put a lot of thought and effort into plotting out his story. To begin with, there are no overt grammatical errors as far as I can see. The text flows smoothly with no interruption and is very clear. The reason I accentuate clarity is because of the magic system that the author has put a lot of effort into describing. I believe that any person who's as obsessed with magic systems as me has at least once thought of a weaving magic system, and Hegeto has succeeded in this endeavor. The system has concrete rules and a path of progression. It's the closest I can imagine to how seiðr would be practiced in real life. All of the author's characters are realistic and avoid being one-dimensional. Currently, some of the main cast's backstories have been explained, but others only have hints of there being something more. One of the things I am rather happy with is that the author doesn't use the massacre of a town or a loved one as a driving force for the main character's actions because there are more reasons to set off on an adventure than just those. Instead, he uses prophecy reminiscent of Greek myth just less absolute. The author does a good job of using known tropes but subverting them in some way or just executing them well All of this is to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the novel so far and can't wait to see more. The only complaint I would have is that the author revealed too much in the synopsis because it spoils quite a bit of the plot. At least the name of the artifact shouldn't be mentioned.
- RyanR-ReviewerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Hear ye! Hear ye! I can announce that this book is......great! Well written and well thought out. There are a few typos but nothing that really effects the quality of the story. The magic system is very well thought out and easy to understand and, while there are only currently 14 chapters available, I must admit that I like the MC and the direction the story is heading. Some books you just know are going to be good after only a few pages, this is one of them IMO. It is a very well crafted story, and while the concepts so far aren't exactly unique, they are well done and enjoyable.
I'm surprised that the story doesn't have any reviews as of right now, but I am very pleased to be the first to leave a five star review. I would recommend anyone who enjoys fantasy fiction, and in particular is looking for something a little different that the standard hack and slash MC, give this book a go. I think you might be pleasantly surprised, just like I was.
