Description

Ferris, the Iron Thesis,a mighty warrior-monk forged in battle, was seconds from victory when a necromancer’s spell tore his soul from his body and dropped him into the life of an art student named Gabrielle who just passed out after too many pills. There, before him, is a device which shows a window to his world, and a sign which says "YOU HAVE BEEN DEFEATED. Respawn?".

Gabrielle Harper, achronically-ill art student, was seconds away from soloing a necro-wizard boss in her favorite MMO when she started blacking out.

Recently, she made a painting that screamed for help.

A mighty warrior-monk showed up. But only in mind.

Trapped in a fragile, unfamiliar body and an even more bewildering world of therapy sessions, financial aid paperwork, and technology like passive-aggressive group texts, Ferris clings to discipline as his only weapon. But as he learns that he's more connected to Gabrielle than he ever could have imagined, and untangles the conspiracy that almost silenced Gabrielle for good, he begins to realize her enemies may now be his... and that her haunting artwork holds secrets powerful enough to kill for.

With no sword, no allies, and no idea how to navigate the modern world, Ferris must do the one thing he was never trained for:speak for someone else’s pain.Because if he can’t reclaim Gabrielle’s voice, they may both be lost, bodyandsoul.

    Style:
This story has a really distinct vibe. The blend of personal art and writing gives it a creative flair that you love to see on Royal Road. It’s got a kind of raw, personal style that works, sometimes strange, sometimes emotional, sometimes unexpectedly funny. It doesn’t follow the usual playbook, and that’s part of the appeal.
    Story:
Reverse isekai isn’t easy to pull off, but this one makes it feel fresh. The plot has a lot of heart and isn’t afraid to get weird in places, but it always feels like it’s going somewhere. There are some moments where you just stop and go “wait, what?” but in a good way. You keep reading because you want to see how it all connects.
    Grammar:
No issues here. It's clean, well-edited, and easy to follow even when the story leans into abstract or surreal territory.
    Characters:
The cast is fun, especially Ferris. There's a nice balance between introspection and humour, and its a genuinely fun challenge laid out in front of us with a great supporting cast.
    Final Thoughts:
This isn’t your standard power fantasy,  it’s something more personal and offbeat. The artwork adds a lot, and the writing backs it up. Definitely worth checking out if you're after something different but still grounded in character and heart.

Yo, homie, Thesis Defense is filled with the bussin' unexpected while strait-up, and I have no cap! The plots wildin', fr fr, the way a normie monk gets reverse-yeeted into a dead ass weak body? I'm medium-key screaming for more of this banger 100/10 I can't even would read it all over again. I'm hyperfixatemaxxing on this chaotic banger and I'm here for Alex, the other GOAT, who is still pretty OK I guess even when standing next to the high-key GOATedness of Ferris, the Iron Thesis.
    (ahem ahem)
Nay, in the "real talk" of my people: The tome of the ballad of Thesis Defense, is a masterful forge of a tale, its steel tempered with unshaken ingenuity. The saga of Ferris's soul, torn from battle, rent from his battle-honed living weapon, bound to Gabrielle’s frail vessel, weaves a tapestry both foreign and profound. Each chapter throbs with the chaos of his past clashing against this strange worlds enigmatic intrigues: pills, games, medial labs, gatekeepers, and Alex the plucky unexpected ally. This is no mere story; 'tis a crucible of heart and will, crafted with daring originality. I proclaim it a worthy chronicle, unyielding in its brilliance conveying my strength. I mean Ferris's heroic deeds and feats. Those which we all know are worthy of eternal veneration.
