Description
There's a side to superheroes they don't tell you, a side that in retrospect was too obvious to miss. Join Lyssa Unas, a girl with a seemingly weak power, as she searches, fights, and dissociates her way to a life where she could at least pretend to live in peace. But in a world full of capes, villains, and everything in between, that future may prove improbable.
There are superheroes in this story, but this is not a superhero story.

- BullerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Title just didnt show it at all.
But, anyway, there are more important parts to point out. The first would be the grammar of the story, which is actually pretty decent. It might have been due to be being sleep-deprived while reading this story, but I couldn't find any errors that I was 100% sure about.
Style is alright as well, even if there is some heavy pushing on the conversations more than anything. Works well enough to like it, at the very least. So that must count for something.
Characthers... is something I haven't read enough to comment on. It feels good on the personality style, yet wording doesn't seem that varied with the characters. Might change later on. Can't be sure
5/5 for now - aferlaneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very well written and easy to follow the narrative. The story has drawn me in completely, and I'm always reluctant to stop reading when real life intrudes. I'm only at chapter 40, but Lyssa's multiple personalities are fascinating and mysterious.
Thank you for the wonderful story. I'm excited to read the rest of it! - angrycrowRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Amazing story
It feels like poetry in a way, the descriptions are so original and every chapter is filled with tension and perfect dialogue and philosophy. Sometimes the introspection/social commentary feels a little overwrouht in book 1, but is nevertheless always extremely impressive. And that goes away in book 2 even, which is leaner in a way, more exciting.
This is a story I'll come back to over and over again. - CasualcultistRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Its a bit more grim take on a world with supers which is always fun. The characters are pretty good. One complaint is that sometimes it is hard to keep track of who is talking in dialoge. All in all I don't know why this is not trending yet. I can't wait to see the future developments of the story.
- RavicensRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really enjoyed this. It has a lot more depth than I was expecting. The Mc grows quite a bit and her growth makes for a riveting study of emotions and maybe even mental health issues. I really hope the author gets back on this at some point. I didn't want it to end.
- Stranger JRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have read up to chapter 40 and loved every second of it.Theis story is extremely good and definitely needs more attention.
The world building is interesting as it depcts a superhero society with tons of problems. The main character's power is also really interesting and made roon for much character's develeopment. A lot of introspections is happening on the phycological side, and a lot of actions are happening for the super powers side. It's like a riding a rollercoaster of emotions for both the mental and physical health of mc.
Everyone should at least give the first chapter a try before deciding to move on. I'm confident you will not regret your decision. - Galaxy876Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Oooh, this is gonna be a doozy to write.
Overall Score: This is a story of an unfortunate girl in a superpowered world that comes to terms with her history and future. It's not a work to bring you to tears (yet), but the author has a solid way of telling Lyssa's story that makes you want to continue reading just to see what happens next. The MC is not the only important character and far from the most powerful despite her broken power, but 44 chapters in and we've already seen explanations that put her power into a believable perspective.
Style Score: The beginning of this story is really interesting in that you don't immediately get the point of view of the main character. The author switches between first person point of view while writing and a sort of third person observation when describing events. Due to this we get a touch of events outside the purview of our main character without the influence of Lyssa's thoughts. This takes a moment to adjust to if you've been reading pure isekai as I have, but it's a good sort of different in my opinion.
Grammar Score: I have no complaints regarding the grammar. All t's were dotted and I's crossed. The sentence structure is pretty well put together and there are no obvious or even subtle spelling mistakes that I could point out.
Story Score: The story itself is great. We have a superpowered society where being superpowered isn't a new event but one that was present throughout history. Our main characters, Lyssa, is an insecure young woman that attempts to step out of her comfort zone after being forced to realize the situation she faces. She joins an institution, but the focus is largely on her development as her powers are linked to her mental state. This has a humungous implication on how the story is implemented because we see more facets of our MC without it being unbelievable, solely because her emotional background is established in such a way. The world building is solid, shout out to that apparent im*******al.
Cha - Home_RekktRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A beautiful story. I really like the mc and how her power(s) are a reflection of her childhood traumas, and the society around her at the same time. And although this story isn't the first I've read that tries to explore what a superpowered world would really look like, it is the most unique in my opinion. (Also the power system is really cool but I won't spoil it). I would highly recommend this story to anyone that's a fan of the psychological and or superpower tags. (The action scenes are pretty good whenever they show up to btw).
- NixoliumRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love the "grim supers" archetype, having read the gauntlet of them from Brennus to Worm. Very few stories are able to capture the essence of internal and external debate and how they project to one another that There Are Superheroes does. There's something awesome about having trauma and powers be related. It's probably one of the primary reasons I've binged the entirety of it in one night.
I do have some criticism, however minor. I do think the constantly shifting perspective and time frame make it a little bit difficult to understand at times. Lyssa's perspective, by nature, is warbled, and displaying that, while still creating a congruent story is at times difficult.
Although this shit is still like fourteen steps higher than what I would normally even have to contemplate about whether to hand out 5 stars. Because by gods. This is awesome.
I could discuss it for hours. - dimgamRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Read it. Even if it's just the first chapter. Just go for it.
If you like either Super Heroes or the Psychological tag-- stop reading this review and just jump in.
If you don't-- I still recommend it. This story is good.
--- Very minor spoilers ahead ---
Lyssa is a girl with a traumatic past. She's also what people call insane. In fact, she's so insane that she's done a full loop de loop and become sane again. Maybe she isn't actually insane? All she knows is that her head is getting kinda crowded.
Disclaimer: My little summary is more fun then accurate, but if you like the idea then you should definitely read the story. If you don't like the idea you should definitely read the story too.
