I was kind of esceptic with this story at the beginning , but man , was I wrong...
Love the concept and execution. No happy ends , no invulnerable fluffy bunnies. The world is real and it hurts
But in the MC case , he can hurt back.

One of the top stories on royalroad at the moment in my opinion. 3 dimensional characters living in a fleshed out world with incredible action sequences. The only thing I want is MORE!

I heard about this story a few weeks/months ago but the name gave me a skewed interpretation of what this story was about.  From the title I assumed it was a tale of the classic DnD style death knight who  good changed his alignment.
That why I was so pleasantly surprised when I actually started reading this story which is urban/modern instead of classical  fantasy and has more in common with anime than DnD.
After a moderately paced start that deals with small town problems, stakes start escalating and the MC is thrust into circumstances beyond his means.  This is where this story truly shines, for while the MC does instead experience rapid advancement there are not only in lore reasons for this but a logical cap to his growth that I've this far never seen in any story before.   Instead of a total newby shooting up to god-tier status like a lot of other stories I've read the MC is more in the middle of the pack.  He's powerful enough to survive in high stake scenarios and even squeeze out a desperate win every now but usually by using his brain instead of his brawn to capitalize on an opportunity.
This departure from classic tropes is just one of many in this novel which continues to keep me guessing to this day.   Everytime I think I understand the fallout of certain events because I've seen something similar before, the author takes a road less travelled in a satisfying way.

I don't get why the review I read didn't like the rainlords. But I do keep getting confused by the characters is there a list somewhere?
I felt like the characters were to overpowered (I like this) but I was afraid the story would stall out and the other characters my fall to the way side. (Currently at 258)
Hectors cool and all but I am realy not sure how he'll react when someone close to him dies cause I was expecting his first kill to be more significant but he just brushed over it.
Its also kinda freaky that the best way hector can die now ( waaaaay in the future) for real will be a suicide ( Im not really 'ok' with the whole realising your servant stuff but i understand it in a 'yes that checks out' kinda way)
    Whats Colt upto???
Can I please get a llist of the servant powers, I know part of the appeal is to learn as you read but i keep forgetting and being suprised like OH DAMN i forgot he can do that.
Does materialization have a weight or volume limit?
I do have one question though: can you just keep a servant in the no body state for years to bring up their soul sync like at the bottom of a lake?

Legit fantasy, action, adventure. Great characters and character interactions and a pretty original world too. As someone said, it's not just some medeival place that got stuck with an adventurer's guild. This is a modern day fantasy about people with super powers that can only be disabled by freezing their brains. That's a pretty original take on a fantasy story right?

I liked it at the very start and it was pretty good, but later on, it began to get more and more annoying to read.
Must say that there is going to be quite lot of spoiler.
    Spoiler: Spoiler
For once, the system was pretty much explained very well and the power ups arent just stupid bullshit, after all, they're explained as a real thing pretty fast and not mentioned a hundred chapters later.
The Mc himself is a pretty good prota, one of the best ive read tbh. At least, at the start he was a pretty good one.
    Ill explain more throughly later.
But for now. The Mc had a clear problem with his family, and life in general, and im pretty sure many people could identify with Mc, in a much smaller sence obviously.
I doubt you would be reading this otherwise.
Now his backup, and characters in general, were pretty good, each one unique enough as to differience him/her from the rest. Reaper, Colt, Parents, Classmates, etc...
And one of my favourite characters so far in this book.
Geoffrey, a villian with much more potential, which I personally think, was wasted.
He wasnt your typical villian with a simple, twisted mind, he was better, much better. A unique background and a scary presence, he didnt half-ass shit, he went straight for the kill and hit where it hurted most, killing Mc father and many classmates he had, something, that should have changed Mc.
Unfortunately, it didnt, at the end it was just an X moment.
With the end of the initial conflicts, the Mc, didnt change.
Nothing, nothing changed, still, the shy, and a bit stronger Mc.
What infuriated me most is that the fight was so bad that a mere power up was enough to kill Geoffrey, it wasnt even a good fight nor an intense one, nothing of great value was at stake, nothing really 'Oh my gosh if Geoffrey wins it'll get really fucked up!'
The first moment Geoffrey appeared we feared that Reaper-San would die. Later on we feared that the babies would die, we feared for Colt, for Mc parents.
Dude it was an exellent villians an

    Dropped at chapter 109
The story starts with an interesting premise, the first few arcs are really well done and show nice character development for the MC, continuous world building, with a power system I don't remember seeing anywhere else.
If it continued like that throughout the entire story I would give it five stars, unfortunately at the end of the 'home country arcs' it goes in a downward spiral. For some reason, the author started relaying the MC to backstage and focusing on POVs of other and new characters. It's like the author started a new story in the ongoing one, and I hate it.
Before, the author already had those random POVs, but because the story was still about the MC and not too long they were bearable. But now this is insanely annoying. It's to the extent that entire chapters, often two chapters in a row, are only the POVs of other characters, and they are barely if not at all related to the MC. Around chapter 70-80 I began skipping those chapters, only reading the 'MC chapters' as I call them, and since most of the stuff that happened in the 'POV chapters' is explained to the MC I could still enjoy the story, but now I've decided to drop the story, I just lost that spark of interest.
    Style : 0.5/5
Far, far too much POVs, mostly useless to the progression of the story and annoying for the reader. The author could have just POVs happening in the background without shoving it in the reader's face, and that's what made me drop the story.
    Grammar : 5/5
I don't remember seeing any grammar issue, or they were so insignificant I don't remember it.
    Story : 2.5/5
At least worth 4 stars for arcs 1-6, but then the overuse of POVs telling a story I personally did not care about ruined it.
    Character Score : 4/5
The MC has a meaningful and slow, progressive development. His personality is also flawed in many ways, and it's interesting to see his interactions. Side characters have many opportunities for development thanks to all the random POVs, even the characte

The story starts with a bang, and gets bogged down as the plot moves on. you can give it a try if there is nothing on your shelf.
    The good and the bad
    1. cultivation/powerup involving the periodic table, the author has given some serious thought to how fight scenes can evolve when characters can manipulate the elements to produce various chemical interactions. The problem is as levels power up. and "soul" elements are introduced, the chemistry takes a back seat, and fight scenes become bland.
    2. characters - we are introduced to characters with diverse backstories, and some witty dialogues. but as the plot moves on, too many characters take on the same dry humor and non sequitur responses that you start to wonder if the writer can write more than three voices. and it certainly breaks immersion.
    3. plot - nice on the episodic level, but when the story starts to develop. we get stuck on various issues. e.g. pace - or the lack of. tension buildup in interrupted by long stretches of secondary character interactions that are of a personal nature and most of them feel forced. worldbuilding - thousands of years of supernatural characters fighting all over the place in a  technological society with cell phones and media with an ignorant public. and only after 50 chapters the author changes his mind and adds as an afterthought - "yes, the public is aware that there are people with some supernatural powers".  So the supernatural elements are not grounded on the social/governmental/historic level in country A, but when the plot moves to country B, suddenly it all becomes integrated just a plane flight away. It's all very jarring.

The story starts slow, then almost out of nowhere, just as you are becomming invested in the story jumps from slow characterization, and world building, to potentially overthrowing a country. With the MC being directly involved in the fight to overthrow a country, and world powers.  Non stop fights and action.  Additionally there are constant pov shifts, so we can see the antagonists actions.
After around 25 chapters or so, I found myself getting bored.  I don't have any further interest. Overall its fairly well written.  With regards to grammar and spelling.  But the poor story choices, and lack of characterization, caused me to lose interest in the MC.
Some suggestions for the author, seriously, slow down your story.  Get rid of most of the pov shifts, and try for slow buildups.  Not this sudden jump to overthrowing the kingdom.

Zombie Knight had good recommendations everywhere.  My experinece with it was the MC was super-socially awkward and it was painful to deal with the high amount of second hand embarassment/cringe.  I don't like cringe comedy; I had hard time getting into the Office.  If you've ever felt uncomfortable physically because someone is acting socially inept in a very public space, then you will also dislike this MC.  It says something the author was able to evoke such a feeling so five star style points.  Not my style though.
It was so so so bad I couldn't stick it out and dropped it.  YMMV
