Description
Los Angeles, 2039.
Almost every vehicle on the road is a self-driving taxi, sophisticated cybernetics require an interface to be installed in your brain stem, life-like androids initially made for labor on the Mars colonies are available for consumer purchase (though for an extremely pretty penny), and Asian gangs have a major foothold in large parts of the city, including the largest and most powerful international yakuza clan, the Sanada-gumi, who operate in the district of Kyoba.
A Japanese-American by the name of Atreus Watanabe -- member and second-in-command of the Sanada-gumi's Asano family -- awakes one morning and is ordered to meet with the influential gang's senior advisor to the chairman. To his surprise, he is tasked with solving the murder of an employee of the nation's leader in cybernetic technology and the Sanada-gumi's number one source of income, Atmos Dynamics, because the event unfortunately took place within Sanada-gumi territory, and no one knows why. He must discover the culprit as soon as possible, before the clan's already unstable relationship with the corporation is thrown into the fire and causes them unprecedented financial devastation.
The Wolf of Asano is COMPLETE.

- HeydeliosRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So I kinda started this story because I'm a huge fan of cyberpunk athmosphere, which is why I was surprised how little it matters in this fiction. Instead of being reminded every few chapters how the corporations are awful, there's heavy metals in the water and everyone is poor, the world simply is, as seen through Atreus eyes. And it makes it feel ironically more realistic, since the narrator isn't lamenting every chapter how dystopic everything is. Also, apart from a few plot points (and the resolution of the mystery), there isn't really much preventing the story from taking place nowadays instead of a futuristic LA, which helps the reader stay grounded and prevents the plot from using futuristic asspulls as plot devices.
Enough rambling about the setting of the story, the meat of this novel is the characters which are all really well written, feel human, and are interesting to follow, which is everything you could ask for.
On this note, I'm adding Convictus' other story on my "to read list" because if it's anywhere near as well written as this one, then it's sure to be a treat.
Thanks for the story ! - Scott FentonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I loved reading your last story and this one is just as good. Not sure why all your stories are underrated, both have been top quality. It may just be the audience on RR. This is a character focused story, with who-dun-it plot jammed in, love interest attached, and suave gangsters at the center of it all. I'm not really into non-fantasy stories, so it really says it all that I am enjoying a story that has no fantasy elements at all.
