The Unusual Shepherd - Isekai/Progression Fantasy

Description

Seth is transported into a world of Chaos and Order. Blessed with the Blood mage and Shepherd classes on his first day. He's soon swept into a prophecy to lead the Satyrs to new pastures. But the path is long and treacherous and Seth must protect them from beasts, daemons and worst of all, his fellow man. Slavers, that wish only to take his tribe and profit from their suffering. With his flock of tamed monsters to help him and the blessings of a Goddess, he might just make it.

The Unusual Shepherd is a ferocious struggle through a sadistic fantasy world. Light on the stats, no Harem, slow burn progression.

This is my first novel, which I mostly pants, so be gentle with me.

I came across this story almost by mistake, and after I started reading I knew it was an underrated gem.  I've very much enjoyed Seth's journey so far, and I hope you will too!
Style - The author does a great job describing the scenes, building the world, and giving a good picture of what's ahead.  The LitRPG elements are very lightly done, which I can appreciate in a genre filled with crunchy numbers.  It is written in first-person, which I'll admit can be a little jarring at times, but overall I wouldn't say that it detracts from the story.  It's generally easy to read and flows very well.
Story - I really like the framing of the story so far.  Seth is an interesting and enjoyable character, who has his flaws like anybody else.  We'll talk more about him in a bit.  The idea of humans being almost like an invasive species feels fresh, and the introduction of the different opposing factions feels natural and is introduced well.  We have a lot of conflicts brewing, and while there's still a lot that we don't know as of the time of this review, there's plenty to make the motivations feel realistic and make the journey believable.
Grammar - A couple of small tense/formatting issues from time to time, though they are relatively few and far between.
Character - the characters introduced so far have been fantastic.  Seth is a likeable main character with a pretty clear motivation: don't die.  His satyr companion Piia provides a reasonable guide to the world and some much-needed support, and Cane is a precious treasure who must be protected at any costs.  (note to the author - if anything happens to Cane I will be deeply upset)  The progression curve seems relatively mellow for now, offering a nice slow burn as they grow in power and we learn more about them.
Overall, The Unusual Shepherd has been a fresh take on LitRPG, and it's definitely one worth checking out!

As the title states, the story starts off interesting. The conflicts are set up early, and just like other portal fantasies, the MC is thrown into the action from the beginning.
Style: This is the only area I had trouble starting out because I didn't expect such a sophisticated style of thinking from someone from earth. It reads like a pure fantasy rather than a portal one, but once I got used to it, the prose flowed very well and did exactly what it needed to.
Story: The story so far has been pretty good, some action and a lot of world building so far through the other character we meet early on. The author has put a lot of thought into the world and its characters.
Grammar: I haven't seen any glaring issues or anything of the sort
Character: The characters so far have been pretty good, the main MC and our other main character's personalities being fleshed out from their interactions with each other. The MC is a lot more realistic when dealing with another world than other stories I've read so props to the author for writing him well.
All in all, I'd suggest this read as it's written very well and has a lot of potential for the future!

An interesting story that has both action and humour. The author really seems to have thought about the system of the world. The descriptions of the environment are easy to visualise and the characters I've seen so far have a lot of life. I am looking forward to reading more.

Never have i had so many adrenaline highs and emotional roller coasters than in this story
Death awaits around corners with a punt gun aimed at chest level at truly unpredictable moments
The main charecter is just an average man who is shattered and ground down only to be built back up like a sandcastle during bad weather
Progression and growth are explosive and meaningful without abilities being forgotten or religated to mediocrity
I truly can not wait for more, accedentally staying up for 30 hours reading nonstop.
Not for the faint of heart but for those who revile in madness give this a read.

I didn't know what to expect reading this as the isekai genre is not one I'm particularly fond of, but this blew my expectations out of the water. The writing is colorful, and the world drew me in instantly--I really love Seth and Piia's relationship and look forward to seeing more of them.
I will say there was the occasional grammatical error riddled in every now and then, and sometimes it was hard to tell which character was speaking, but none of these cons deterred me from what was otherwise an excellent read. Well done, overall!

A breath of fresh air in the genre of portal fantasy/ LitRPG. 100% recommend!
Great pacing to the story with some exciting action that had me speed reading to find out what happens. The characters are deep and interesting, the world is rich and alive. The LitRPG system is handled really well and the author uses humor, dialog and world building to keep the story interesting and me to keep reading. I look forward to every time I sit down with this story!
The style of the writing is really advanced considering this is a debut. I will be keeping a keen eye on the author’s future work as well.
I’m especially loving the characters, their interactions and how the MC adapts to this new world. I think this is actually realistic in terms of reaction and how they progress.
I haven't spotted any glaring grammar issues that have taken me out of the story at all.
The plot is clearly well planned and drip feeds the reader just the right amount of information about the world and its inhabitants.
I’m really intrigued at how the leveling system works as I can see that is well planned. Great series! Keep it up

Was a good story but the MC feels like a bit too much of a pushover and wont use everything to his advantage or hesitates too much otherwise, it was still a good story that is until the author decided in chapter 31 to bring in his opinions and victimize certain groups unrealistically to what reality is like and talk bad about being faithful to one partner and religion. these opinions have no place in a good story.
I do like the unique power system and how the Mc does not become overpowered in a few chapters and the world-building is pretty good too just hope the MC will stop being such a wimp.
The bad guys feel a little too dumb and so do the monsters with how they are always more powerful than the MC but he somehow wins without losing anything significant.
Can't find anything wrong with the grammar or writing style so far so that's a huge plus from me.
Overall I'll recommend giving this a read since it is quality work except for the unprofessional input the author had to give us but most of this is just my thoughts and it should not stop anyone from giving this a chance.

Okay, don't get me wrong, the story is fascinating, and the worldbuilding is promising. Even the cover art is beautiful.
    However...
It's unreadable. I'm definitely just being picky, but the way the sentences are constructed make it beyond difficult to keep track of what is going on. There are more run-on sentences than not, actions flow like mercury, and Seth's inner monologues even moreso. I want to get into the story, and yet I find myself skimming through sentences that refuse to stick.
A good editor, or maybe just a read-through or two to make the text more digestible, would go a long long way to making this the amazing story I'm sure it is underneath.

too descriptive for my taste...may be tone down a little and focus more on the story rather than, details describing the poetic theme.
its very distracting to read about the left right and center the descriptions of how the mc is perceiving the world, that would be great but its in every paragraph..
