Quick and short read into the daily life of a paranormal investigator.
It's an entertaining read. The story is complete, which might be a bonus. It has all the usual tropes of the disabused yet competent detective, barely making ends meet, struggling to find client but stumbling on an interesting and potentially well-paid case. With aloof, distrustful, arrogant client and butler. Making the detective work harder than it should be!
The mystery ramps up slowly and he supernatural is quite obvious, but with a very light touch, almost second hand.
This could have been a short entry in the Cthulhu Mythos except for the fact nobody ends up insane in an asylum. And no weird angles. But the rest and atmosphere of unexplainable mystery is there!

    Style
The style was plain, not bad but not something that stood out either. It dragged because of the amount of "telling" and "narrating" and that made it difficult to immerse myself in it but there were some parts that shone too. I imagine the author can make this story even better if they spend some more time on it because the core iddea is good.
    Story&Characters
As I said, the story dragged for me at times though I really liked some parts such as Bernie the mechanic and the amount of detailed worldbuilding that made me question if this was actually someone's life. I found Victor unimpressive. This is most likely due to the lack of emotions and the distance at which he keeps the reader. He feels like a narrator to me, not a full character.
    Grammar
It was pretty good, actually. It didn't take me out of the story almost at all.
    Overall
I'm not curious enough about the moth, Avalon or her situation to continue reading right now but I will edit this review if I find myself thinking about this story and wondering how it ends in a few days or later. I suspect it will be Bernie to bring me back if I ever do. Author, the scene where Bernie scares the valet and Bernard was really good. I think you're good at writing playful scenes so I would suggest leaning into that a bit more.

    ★★ 2.0
    Style:
This story tries to follow in the footsteps of the mid 2000's and later 'urban fantasy with a private investigator as a main character in a very noir style', and it accomplishes it decently. The sexists tropes of the Noir genre are mostly absent, but you have a down-on-his-luck private eye, being hired by this rich client to solve this paranormal mystery. The premise is good.
    Grammar:
I didn't notice any problems, but I'm not generally one to notice subtle ones. Some sentences could be reworked a little bit, but overall top 10% of RoyalRoad on grammar.
    Character:
The main character doesn't have shame, but he doesn't have a spine either. I'd recommend the author re-read some of his reference material and tries to notice what makes a compelling investigator. Someone who just goes with the flow, doesn't really make decisions, and lets others make his choices for him ain't it. The rest of the cast is... meh. The car is intriguing, but didn't have time to develop any personality. The rest of the humans aren't overly compelling.
    Story:
If this story had a couple more chapters to actually resolve the plot point, it could be good. But since we are about 80% through the story, but it's ended, and we still don't have answers for any of the mysteries, I cannot in good conscience recommend this story. If we get the plot points at least a little bit resolved (why the final crime? what happened to the person of interest? why is Bernard like that?) then I'd up the story to a solid 4 stars, both in category score, but global score as well
