Description
Maxwell Alston was your regular video game player not the best not the worst he was somewhere in the middle as most were. He was playing a strategy game building his empire about to have his undead horde overwhelm the orc kingdoms when his computer shocked him now, he finds himself in a new land trying to lead a true undead empire except with a few minor differences.
"What do you mean I'm just a skull in the fairy territory!!!" Maxwell roared from the ground.

I love this story, especially the main character’s dynamic with the god and the undead. The grammar could use some work, but the author has promised to fix it. Aside from that, the story is fantastic and highly enjoyable 👍👍👍👍 - WaraniRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The concept is super creative, love to see it. it is rare to see the many potential possibilities of necromancy explored [or be hinted at exploration, at least] (such as more than 'raise the skeleton/ zombie/ ghost/ etc) and i cant wait for more. easiest 5 stars ever, great work.
- greenGrassRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0In my opinion, the story is very extraordinary because he created unique undead from the beginning and the whole thing has an interesting beginning and an interesting story line. One has to say that the chapters should be revised again, but the author himself has mentioned this several times and said that he is editing them again.
- LordGrim22Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0“The Undead Staring Zone is the Worst” offers a thrilling and refreshing take on the fantasy genre, blending sharp humor, vivid world-building, and compelling character perspectives to create a story that resonates with both action and emotional depth.
The premise—a world caught in the throes of divine power struggles, legendary heroes, and misunderstood monsters—captures the reader’s imagination immediately. The concept of the “Undead Staring Zone” as a place of danger and suspense sets a unique tone, combining elements of horror and intrigue with an undercurrent of sardonic wit.
One of the novel’s standout features is its exploration of morality and perspective. The story boldly challenges conventional notions of heroism and villainy, shining a light on the overlooked voices of monsters who are often dismissed as mere obstacles in the paths of so-called heroes. This narrative choice not only deepens the emotional stakes but also creates a more nuanced and thought-provoking reading experience.
The world-building is another highlight. From the iconic Lighthouse of Alexdra to the god of monsters, Phabium, every detail is imbued with meaning and rich imagery. Phabium’s struggle to protect his kin against insurmountable odds is both tragic and inspiring, painting him as a deeply sympathetic figure in a world that often favors the strong over the just. His desperate act of summoning an unlikely champion hints at exciting developments to come.
The novel also introduces Maxwell, a character who bridges two worlds: the one he commands in a strategy game called “Age of Legends” and the perilous reality of Zostrora. This element of meta-storytelling adds a relatable and humorous twist to the narrative, while simultaneously exploring deeper themes of power, responsibility, and the blurred lines between reality and fantasy.
While the narrative is packed with inventive ideas and memorable moments, some sections feel slightly overburdened with detail, occasionally slowing the pa - U N i C o r NRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a very interesting story so far. It is one of my favorites right now, and I plan on keeping it that way. I love the concept and the creativity! I can't stop reading; it just keeps drawing me back! The only thing I want right now with the story is just for bigger and crazier undead!
- lazy trollRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I only found this book through the comments of another book after they announced they were going on hiatus for December tree of Aoens if I'm not mistaken but after bing reader the whole story I can tell you aside from small Grammer mistakes this story is really good it does not fall into the trap of constantly focusing on one aspect/side of the story and is really well structured so I hope this review help boost the story
- SkeletonDuckRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I like the novel also the idea of the skeleton head being a building I enjoyed the grass pixie war arc so hope you keep building also you want to check the grammar I enjoyed the constructs and the making of his kingdom
I like the system going on and enjoy the world building - BogBoiRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0So far loving the concept, albeit a bit of a haphazard start but that’s par for the course for a writathon can’t wait to see how the story continues as it seems like a Great start of a empire story.
Pros: Really unique starting concept and use of “system”
Cons: Kinda dropped into the deep end lore wise that could definitely use some trimming for the first couple chapters
all in all great so far hope it keeps going after the writathon cause the small scale so far would be a crime to end there - Rhia_readerRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The premise is interesting, amusing and progressing. I'm honestly enjoying it so far.
I'm looking forward to seeing the characters grow and develop alongside the interesting base building elements introduced
However. The misusage of words requires an editorial pass of the whole text so far.
Simple things like: she wouldn't wet them get away vs she wouldn't let them get away. - Unnamed WolfRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The story is fascinating, and I have no issue with the pacing, but frequent grammar mistakes make it hard to understand sometimes. There were times where I was getting immersed into the world of the book, only to be brought back because a grammar error made it hard/awkward to get the point of the sentence. By awkward I meant that I understood what the meaning was, but it didn't feel right
