I'm writing this review mostly because I don't think that this book deserves the rating it was given. It has no grammar mistakes that I could see, and is/would be a good start to a book (I don't know if it's ongoing or on hiatus forever). If this is it, my opinion of this story converted into stars would probably be four or four and a half. I wouldn't read a book with three stars, and assume most people wouldn't, so I'm writing this so that more people read this wonderful short story.

The whole concept of the Godking and of the setting holds some interest, but at the same time numerous red flags start to go up about the setting, the politics and the nature of why any of this is happening at all. The story even goes on to highlight some of these concerns and does not really lampshade it either, so the fundamental reason the plot unfolds in the way it does becomes illogical. Even little details about having been stable for thousands of years shows some serious concerns about the apparent stability of a civilization, let alone an empire. Such things being foundational, such as the contempt and fear let alone the very reason this all started off become difficult to rationalize and still keep focused on the story. The conclusion doesn't resolve these points and goes to a predictable end that leaves the story on a rather flat note.
