The Tower of Dreams

Description
A massive tower rises from the very center of a sprawling, densely populated city called Foundation. Although it has many names, the most common name for the vast structure was The Tower of Dreams.Inside of it was a thousand floors, each comprised of extra-dimensional space far larger than would fit within the structure of the tower. For millennia all manner of sapient species has sought to climb the danger-filled floors to the top of the tower to find out what lies at the top. The relative difficulty and danger level of the tower's floors rose steeply the further up it you progressed, and only the truly dedicated, skilled and gifted could ever make it past the first few hundred floors. In all of recorded history dating back thousands of years, only a handful of individuals have ever reached the power needed to surpass the 999th floor. Those who did were never seen or heard from again, and so the question of what was at the top of the tower persists.
Senwyn Everhome is a young human woman who grew up in the shadow of the tower. As a member of the working-class poor, Senwyn worked a truly awful job at slaughterhouse and lived as frugally as she could. She was motivated to break out of the drudgery of her life to pursue the life of an adventurer climbing the tower. Inside the tower, one could become fabulously wealthy and powerful. Success requires you to have the drive to grind away at improving your skills and levels, and the guts to face a nearly endless variety of danger. She was bound and determined to break out of the chains of poverty one way or another, even if it meant risking her life.

- ArcticWolf12Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Good story, Really enjoyed the first few chapters.
I'm not great at reviews but thought I'd leave one. The story so far has a lot of potential (bear in mind I'm so far only on chapter 2 so I've got a lot still left to read), The world-building and the fighting are interesting, whilst this isn't my normal genre of story I can certainly see the interest
The overall writing competency from the author is good, the style they've used for describing how events happen is intuitive and makes it flow well. It allows me to visualise whats actually happening within the story as it unfolds - AurathasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style - The style the author uses is very descriptive without going over the top. They give you a good sense of the setting without wasting time on pointless details. The style is especially good when the combat scenes kick off, they are exciting and the style easily allows you to imagine the fights. Finally, the story dives right into the action, no slow burn here.
Character - The character is believable and their motivation is very easy to empathize with. The conflict of their motivation with the price they have to pay for survival is very intriguing. Also, the realization they come to when they realize that the monsters are not simple beasts and the implications of that triggers realistic reactions.
Grammar - No issues that I have noticed. Everything is clear, no run-on sentences or spelling issues. Punctuation is perfect.
Story - The story is fast paced and sets the stage for a big epic tale. There are early hints of threats of the MC will face and how they will grow in power. The interactions with the monsters and the changes to the MC provide a lot of potential as well. Overall a great story that I'm looking forward to reading for a long time to come. - KazVelvetoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The action scenes are plenty and very long and detailed, which is something I love! A lot of litrpgs just become about talking and scheming and blah blah blah but this one is focused on the things I love most: action and adventure.
The protagonist is easy to relate to and – surprise surprise – also has flaws! So many litrpg authors are terrified of giving their characters flaws and weaknesses, but the inclusion of both in this story made it much easier for me to connect with the MC.
I also like how the system is integrated into the story and prose. I don’t feel so interrupted by it like I do in many other novels in this genre. It flows nicely and doesn’t keep pulling me out of the story.
I think my favorite part of this story was getting to know the MC slowly, bit by bit. The MC has a lot of introspection and comments a lot on how she feels about herself, the events, and the world around her. You’d think that would slow the story down, but it just felt so natural and I was drawn in by the MCs grounded personality.
You also get a very detailed section of the MC describing exactly what she looks like, which while somewhat odd, in the end made her come to life and I could picture exactly what she looked like in my mind.
My only gripe is the chapters are very long, but I think this will be a positive for many readers.
Great start to what looks to be an exciting story! - Reel123Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5This tale bent and buckled enough for me to stay excited about what could possibly be around the corner. It hit enough tropes that I felt I had a strong idea, then would bend one way, then reach the destination anew. From expecting her to be a solo monster, to a guild member, to a solo monster of sorts after all, it's been a really firm foundation.
The main character's mix of action, and internal monologue, interspersed with the RPG style notifications and statuses provides a nice mix of different ways to convey the world, alongside the more classical conversations that grow more common as the story progresses.
You get a good sense of the protagonist, and the side character's, personalities very quickly, but also enough time to enjoy them in thorough exchanges and conversations, and a strong feeling that we'll see them again.
It takes a while for side characters to be introduced, but they all get their own scenes, their own clear identities, and even when shown in a group can easily be gleaned apart.
The pacing is good, it does veer on the side of thoroughness, and often takes the moment in what would be travel scenes or downtime to explain aspects of the world instead. I'd say it could be trimmed down somewhat, especially in dialogues, but that is purely subject and I truly enjoyed how thorough the conversations were. This doesn't feel like a story that will employ cheap miscommunications for drama, people take their time and say what they want to say.
Grammar is generally strong, but a few minor mistakes and some clunky phrases occasionally in the writing style are all that hold me back from giving a full five stars.
This story made me grin with excitement, laugh with glee, and gasp aloud, which is all I want in a tale. - Denwa MacskaRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0If you are looking for a story that has a lot of potential and visual power, you should definitely take a look. Because even if the story has its weaknesses, it offers a lot of interesting concepts combined with beautiful descriptions and a lot of effort to slowly build a fantastic world. Anyone who enjoys action and likes fascinating secondary characters will be well served here!
We follow the protagonist on a "little hunt" where everything definitely doesn't go as expected. The author has put a lot of effort into creating a world in which an exciting story can take place, with strong descriptions of battles and vivid surroundings. However, the build-up to this story needs some preparation and is rather slow at some points, because the focus on minor details is too high, which makes the pace feel unsteady. Still, the concept is an interesting one that could not only hold some potential and drama but also gain momentum as the chapters progress. So one could bet that the later chapters will definitely make up for the rough beginning.
All this is combined with a style that loves to make the world as graphic as possible. The author has moved freely between the lines and you can tell that the descriptions of the environments must have flowed quite smoothly. It gives you beautiful imaginations to cling to, and apart from a few missing spaces between dashes and minor typos, the grammar is really good. The only thing is that a lot of potential isn't "shown" but flatly "told", which robs some parts of the magic. This makes some scenes rather plastic and unengaging.
I think the characters are the only thing I had a serious problem with. The main character is just not tangible. You have the feeling that you are following a character in an RPG who only carries the bare minimum of personality. There is nothing about her that I would say sticks in my mind shortly after reading. And as she is the main focus, it is quite a shame that character traits and potential places to build - JTAckerRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I recently had the opportunity to delve into this captivating story, which is an enjoyable read overall. The author demonstrates a commendable skill in crafting a unique narrative with a well-thought-out world and intriguing characters.
Style Score: 4.0 The author's writing style is praiseworthy, especially evident in the character development. Characters like Senwyn and Francois are brought to life with vivid descriptions and distinct voices. Additionally, the use of literary devices enhances the storytelling experience.
Story Score: 3.5 The plot development and pacing are generally well-executed. The story unfolds with a good balance of action and exposition, providing readers with essential information about the world. However, I found Chapter 6 to be particularly lengthy and dense, which temporarily disrupted the overall flow of the narrative. Breaking it into smaller sections might help maintain reader engagement.
Grammar Score: 4.0 From a technical standpoint, the writing is strong, with minimal grammatical errors, spelling issues, or punctuation mistakes. This contributes to a seamless reading experience.
Character Score: 4.5 One of the story's strengths lies in its well-crafted characters. Senwyn, with her distinct background and experiences, is a compelling protagonist. Francois, the secondary character, also adds depth to the narrative with his unique personality and role as a recruiter for The Free Rogue's Trading Company.
Overall, this story is a promising piece of work, demonstrating a solid foundation for character development and world-building. While Chapter 6 could benefit from restructuring, it's worth diving into the world of Senwyn and Francois to experience their adventures and the mysteries of the tower firsthand.
