- SevenShadeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Cyrrently at chspter 4... it has potential and i hope that it wont degrade ...though the setting is your typical wuxia/xiaxa genre i can still see a lot of good points here... i wouldnt elaborate since its only have 4 chapter ... i would still recommend this to reae... add to your READING LIST .. I demand more chapter... please and thank you
- YimmerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Brilliant cultivation story that finds the sweet spot in an ocean of bland cultivation tales. The MC is a little over powered, but is not a typical face slapping destroyer of worlds. The plot includes witty schemes, battles, and funny situations. The author makes the plot move at a good pace, keeping reader interest without using forced cliffhangers. They do not stretch the chapters to inflate word-count.
The start of the story is a tad rough but once the plot gets rolling then Jian Cheng really starts to show his brains over brawn approach. Jian is not exactly a paragon of virtue, more of a rascal to view safely from far away.
Each member of the Thundering Tortoise Trio is detailed enough to have their own chapters. Using separate narrator POVs in some chapters adds flavor to how the story unfolds. The minor characters all have some personality, and are well written enough to maybe return later.
Grammar is pretty good. There are a few formatting and spelling mistakes. Not at the professional published level yet but nothing that would hinder your enjoyment or understanding of the work.
Adding more chapters for Kong Wang (I know, I know) would be excellent. Such a fun and innocent character deserves more time in the spotlight. - KirkegaardRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5For me this feels like a comedy book mixed with a cultivation book. It has its fun moments. But it aslo has it serius moments.
- hakatri ginRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The first two chapters are rather ok-ish but after the third one the story finds its own style and develops charmingly, the mixture of humor and xianxia is a more western approach to stand up unlike the traditional chinesse comedy of "breaking the formality of a situation" and this mixture feels very fresh
As with all stories the development of ideas is more important than the originality, this starts as a very standard story but the way it handles itself sets it apart, then it develops an interesting gimmick of infiltration not really used in the regular xianxia and it focuses on personal and inter sectual interactions while cultivaion is a factor in those relationships but never replaces them
At chapter 47 the characters' personalities are still the same but they are much more fleshed out than before and when a character is missing the group's interactions vary considerably, it gets to the point wheer its fun to see how different characters reach to the same situation and they themselves are aware of how different their dinamics are when the party composition changes
They do feel like a group of friends who have been together for a long time and are used to each other's shenanigans, and its fun to see their team dinamics while the plans have to move forward
Overal a very nice change of pace compared to regular xianxia, but it also assumes the reader is familiar with the genre so it may be hard to grasp if this is your first xianxia
Also, i like turtles so i may be biased, but who doesnt like turtles?
Start at chapter 3 and see for yourself - Biff BifflesonRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0It's a xianxia, obviously, so you're going to see the classic worldbuilding elements of pills and cores and such, but that's irrelevant. While it does start out in a classic "progression focused" way, the character dynamics between the titular trio give the story a more lighthearted and unique tone than most in this genre. It quickly focuses more on their mischievous schemes than on the specifics of progression, though exposition is given where needed. My only criticisms are that there are occasional errors in spelling and grammar, and the frequent POV jumps the author uses can be a bit confusing, especially since they aren't always clear as to the chronology of the events taking place. The confusion doesn't tend to last long though, but I do hope the author rectifies this, as this story seems to have a lot of potential, and I hope it only gets better.
