Had decades passed overnight?

The rental unit now resembled an excavated tomb. Tabletops lay buried under volcanic ash-grade dust. Wall posters hung like jaundiced scrolls—pop star smiles warped into hag’s grins by paper decay. Cobwebs veiled the walls in necropolis lace.

On the coffee table, oranges and apples had undergone grotesque transmutation—collapsed into obsidian sludge beneath fungal gravestones. Aluminum window frames grew fuzzy white carcinomas; glass panes spiderwebbed with fractures like frozen lightning.

The computer monitor wore a sarcophagus of silk. A desiccated insect hieroglyph floated in the waterless cup, its exoskeleton melted into Rorschach ambiguity. The air tasted of cremated time.

This wasn’t decay. This wascuration—a sepia-toned purgatory where modernity had been taxidermied mid-death rattle.
