Description
When Gale Storm is murdered, death brings with it an unexpected ticket to the fantastical world of Mioverold - a place rife with dangerous creatures and political conflict. While the adversaries may be driven by common goals, they have vastly different approaches. Faced with these uniquely powerful combatants, and no chance to return to life as he knows it, Gale must decide what to do next. Choosing a side to spend his afterlife with isn't going to be easy, since war is just as much about perspectives as it is about the absolutes of right or wrong.

- Kamna GuptaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I started following this story on the author's medium channel, and then switched over when I found out about him writing on Royal Road.
I have to do my bit.
Overall Score: The pacing is tight, and compact. The chapters aren't rushed, and the character development is sound. It's a rare package, and considering the author's following on medium, I'm surprised to see that it hasn't taken off yet here. Tougher playing field, maybe.
Story Score: The plot is yet to thicken. The overall plot is yet to come into play, but that doesn't derail your enjoyment. Multiple arcs seem to be building up to one big arc. Only time will tell. The characters are all distributed as important. While Gale does stand out as the protagonist, there are several chapters where the author leaves him out to address the story from a different POV. Great stuff, truly.
Grammar Score: For a web novel, the author takes great care to address the way his work is written. Impressive. Unfortunately, grammar is something I can never give a full score for. I have to limit it to 4.5. Also, it's written a little unconventionally? If that's accurate even. Can't put my finger to it. But it's a smooth read, and very enjoyable.
Character Score: MC takes the cake with his rather unique condition. But as I have previously mentioned, the other characters at certain phases makes the MC feel like a small part of the overall picture. This is great for the book. It's not a power trip. And it doesn't sensationalize for no reason. My favorite character so far isn't even the MC. You'll have a lot of fun here.
Style Score: I love reading the occasional manga and anime. But my reading preference has always been of the descriptive kind - GoT, WoT, LotR. The author follows their style guide, but that doesn't affect the pacing as much as I had previously imagined. It reads better when you imagine it as something anime-esque, a personal preference, obviously. But a very engaging approach is what I would say. The world is also well - AnuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Okay! So this review is long overdue and I've been wanting to share how much I enjoyed reading Tempestatem, written by Nishant.
The story follows the journey of Gale C. Storm, a man like no other whose life changed from ordinary to extra ordinary in a split second. We see the author quoting 'normalcy is a fate accepted, not loved.' in the initial chapters; a short while later Gale's life is catapulted to anything but normal and beyond his wildest imagination.
The story starts at an interesting pace and had my attention from the beginning. It promises death and blood from the start, quickly becoming intense and the series of events that follow are enthralling and offers the readers a rollercoaster ride.
The writing style does not dissapoint and I found myself looking forward to the next Chapters but was made to wait by the author for longer than I would have liked to :). But whenever a new chapter was published, it did justice to the intrigue, curiosity and thrill it claims to introduce.
The language used is clear and easy to understand. The characters are well developed and one can easily associate with them. Though Gale is the main protagonist, each character is well defined and has important roles to play throughout the story.
In a nuteshell, the author has delivered a gripping story line that takes Gale on a journey that the reader will enjoy completely. Highly Recommended! - Cookie_SwirlingcupcakeeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So I was referred to several fictions by... someone because I am waiting for *Cough, Cough* not looking at you King of Cat - Cat the Cat *Cough* chapters.
Well, I have read 3/22 novels recommended so far and well, this is the 3rd one.
OMG! This is quality! When the author of another fiction writes a review like that... it goes a mile for the existing readers to actually look at his pfp and go "WHAT?!" and want to check the things out.
The story is bliss is all I will say. Whenever I close my eyes, it feels like I am on an epic journey, a field that SCREAMS of Battle!
It is so subtly done that I can not help but give 5 stars to this.
Grammar is not jarring.
Characters are interesting in their rights and forces me to bite my nails as I read it
Story is foreshadowed and is slowly brewing.
Style is well-done and does not distract from experience.
What else can I say? You hooked me! Now keep it up!
And please release more chapters... I don't want to see this on Hiatus unlike... *Cough* "Aeromancer" (R.I.P I loved the story T_T) - AggregatorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Greetings to you, traveler. If you stumbled upon my review, then you have either read or are planning to read this Wonderful fiction by sir Nishant Muralidharan -- An Epic that awaits your attention.
I will not bring out an advanced review, as this work has already managed to hit all five-stars in my book (unlike my own work).
The story folllows Gale C. Storm, an ordinary man who found himself under the Scythe of Death. The events that follow is your regular "Chance for another life;" however, this is where I will draw a line and state that there is more than the eye meets. Spoiling anything past this point would be considered a dis-service to this Epic. It is not your regular fantasy fiction, even if it might have some elements of it.
The Author does a great job of interpreting various mythologies into his tale, showcasing the research that is being done, and a level of sophistication. While an epic, the story reads smoothly -- devoid of any hiccups that could tarnish its reputation. Both newcomers, and veterans of reading such stories will find it rather pleasant and surprising how easy it is to navigate from chapter to chapter, and not get lost.
The chapters are well-paced, each one revealing Enough details to raise a will in the reader to keep going until the end. The thrill of the unknown inside of the world setting, and its interaction with the outside realm has kept me at an edge of my seat, counting down hours before newer chapter was released.
The character of Gale is rather interesting, and while slightly off-setting due to his extraordinary ability to adapt to his condition far too rapidly, he has a "More than meets the eye" charm to him, and once the little puzzle of the mystery gets revealed, the story suddenly becomes rich with the conflict that might arise in the future. Gale C. Storm's origins are currently unknown, and this mystery is slowly being revealed (with very subtle clues sprinkled through the current chapters I have read).
The inclusion of - AetiusIVRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Liked the story a lot, which makes me wish the author would release the book in one go instead of chapter by chapter. Fingers crossed for future chapters being able to keep me as gripped as the ones already released. Not going to reveal any details of the plot in the review, obviously, but i can say I'm glad I started reading it.
The character development is pretty good, though I wish the protaganist had a darker side to him that comes out in moments of weakness, or something along those lines to make him more rounded as a character. In general, however, they're all pretty entertaining, and keep you engaged, especially with the dry humour exhibited by some of the characters.
The style of writing is generally smooth, but I gave it four stars because I found the way the characters' thoughts were expressed sometimes broke the flow. Wish they were better integrated with the general narrative, but that's pretty much my only complaint in this area. The narrative as a whole, is great, and I really appreciate how the author leaves just enough to the imagination to keep your interest piqued throughout.
To sum it up, definitely worth reading, and based on the work so far, I'm quite certain future chapters will not disappoint. It's great that platforms like Royal Road allow new authors to reach out to more readers with therir work, and Tempestatem is a book that many of these readers would enjoy. - georgebakerson123Royal Road★★★★ 4.0tldr: The story in itself is amazing. However, I feel like the side characters let it down somewhat and need some work. There are a few other problems too, which I will discuss below, but I still recommend reading this novel.
Style: 4/5
Ok, whatever style you used throughout this novel, I loved it. Clear and concise and easy to understand. However, the underlying issue is that it's not consistent.
What do I mean by that? Well, there are cases where italics are deployed but then when the same scenario happens, you use normal font. Another example is the odd use of boxes here and there but then not others. Even the most apparent example is that for chapter 1-26, it used roman numerals for the title and then ch 27 onwards used English ones.
All I'm saying is that no individual style is bad, but using them inconsistently is. Best to stick to one.
Story: 5/5
As I've said before, the story is great. It has the political intrigue, the drama, the action etc. All the good stuff. If the novel has a selling point, this part is it. I won't spoil anything, and the other reviews give enough to get you going, so I'll leave it at that.
Grammar: 5/5
Perfect. Any problems I've had would come under style instead.
Character: 3/5
Ok, time for the elephant in the room. Is it me or do the side characters suffer from mc syndrome? Where they don't have anything bad to say to the mc unless they're the enemy? Sure, they're not fawning over Gale please-marry-me-and-have-my-kids style as some other authors do with their mc, but this is definitely a mild case of that.
They're too polite and respectful. Don't get me wrong, that's not a bad thing but the way it's portrayed just doesn't feel natural. When he does good, they praise him. When he doesn't understand something, they're like "oh yeah, you don't understand our world. Here's the explanation."
What it truly lacks is a few characters to be like "ugh, why are you like this?" or someone who annoys Gale as friends often do, or even a "are you a - Deepesh TomarRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I must say like Gale's own eventful journey, mine at 14 chapters in has been enthralling. I'll simply break my review in two parts.
The Good
“It’s unfortunate that I was assigned a mission on this day. And I understand also that you acted in self-defence. But despite all of that, the Relictan race really couldn’t care less about honour. I am going to kill you now.” Them dialogues. This is a testament to Gale's character development as well, to see the ability of the boy to adjust to his situation and his fate. The meld of curiosity and the will to act is what makes it intriguing. What was fun to notice was that due to the style of writing, I was visualising the world in anime mode. If intentional, its commendable, really makes the read more enjoyable.
Like any fantasy, the world building needs to be on point and here the author has done a great job of creating the lore of his world. The grammar and the language used is the perfect blend of sophistication and ease of understanding.
The battles are what truly hook you. In a magical world one has to balance the idea of true mortality along with the feats of the magical itself. This has been done wonderfully to ensure the battle sequences are thrilling.
The Bad (More of minor OCD trigger of mine)
While the lore of the world was done real well, I felt in a particular scene not enough attention was given to the area discription. I had some trouble visualising the setup in the beginning but that went away once I started to imagine the characters in anime mode.
All in all this is a must read and I can't wait to dig in and see what happens next. - Un_ushkaRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5It was my first experience reading an epic-fantasy, and it was really amazing! Story is beautifully plotted so are the character. Over it's a masterpiece! :)
