Never in my life I had expected to expected to relate to a Dragon and yet I have.
Though it is in the cycle of trauma that is between a caregiver to the ones we care for. That too becomes hard to acknowledge that you are the one who has caused harm and that action has it's consequences, the resentment festers and the guilt is unbearable.
To be able to love someone so much that you are willing to be hated is hard to convey but this book has and to the point of making me cry.
Whatever I had expected was not this and while this is a sad tale that makes me want to curl up in a ball, I would still treasure what I experienced in this journey nevertheless.

Bit early, but I'm here. The story is off to a good start so if you are looking for a decent read you can read this.
    Style:
Magic, monsters, dragons, assassins, the story is off to a running start and is better off for it.
Having a dragon that is actually a rather kind and gentle being is a nice change from what we normally get, and Val is a pretty good character on his own. The 'style' of the story is kinda hard for me to put words to so early on, but I'd say it's more 'heartfelt' than action as of right now.
We have an old being, who has given his life to protecting his 'children', and he's planning on doing that until the end.
It's a sad story, overall, but I bookmarked it because I like Val and I want to see how the story ends.

    Story:
The writing, conversations, 'stories' and everything else are very well done. Each chapter gives me enough that I feel entertained and genuinely want the next chapter.
    It's good, no real complaints.
    5/5
Grammar: No issues I noticed that haven't already been fixed, 5/5
    Character:
The characters are the story. Val and the assassin, the world, all of it so far is vast in scope but we are focused on something relatively small, the end of the journey of one Dragon.
The characters are perfection, they are given every moment to shine so far and I love Val's stories, I look forward to more.

    Overall, read it.
I am, I got it bookmarked.
I usually recommend 3k worded chapters at least, but a lot of the chapters reach that number or close enough to it that it doesn't affect my score all that much. This is mostly just a 'recommendation'.
5/5 I look forward to more

Edited at chapter 2, added a some more score since it got better somehow
TL;DR: A premise unlike anything I've read before, supported by writing that's actually good.
Now onto the review proper...but first:
I usually hold off reviewing until chapter 5-10 to get a good feel for this story. However, this story seems too good to pass up, and I want to motivate the author not to put this on permanent hiatus any time soon.
Now, onto the review (for real)
    Grammar
Nothing, really, to point out. There was one word misuse, but it didn't really break me out of my reading mood.
    Style
The pacing was good, the fight scene a bit slow but still within the fast-paced league. The only issue I had with chapter 1 was the abrupt ending, but it wasn't a cliffhanger so I'm not very miffed.
    Characters
The characters (2 so far) have sufficient depth and mystery for people we've only known for a chapter. We're provided with a medium-depth backstory for the assasin that fleshes out her character to what I'd call side-character tier. There are no classic archtypes. These characters look quite original, although not quite there yet. I've seen some godly backstory development, but for this chapter's size this is very good.
    Story
Now on to the meat of the thing. The story is completely original. Most stories on Royal Road are based on a classic premise. Becoming a dungeon, getting run over by truck-kun, acquiring ultimate powers and/or a system and being transported to another world. This story is like nothing else. 100% original. I'm not sure how good it's going to be, but so far the first chapter is relatively on par with most good works I've read on RR.
If you read both the synopsis and chapter 1, dear fellow reader, you'll realize the city and the dragon are caught in some sort of misunderstanding that spans decades or even centuries, causing the assasination attempt. This is actually interesting, unlike most novel starts on RR that are 80% canned "Oh shit I reincarnated!" and 20% new, inter

Interesting start to a story that has clearly been thought out in advance.  Between the first chapters and the blerb you can tell a lot of thought has gone into what gets the characters to where they are at the start, and that the author choose a particularly exciting point to start instead of a generic here is who I am start so many stories start with.  Looking forward to seeing how this develops.  A couple small grammer errors and confused use of pronouns but the author seems to be accepting of "suggested changes" so I think if you can handle these they will get sorted out.  Otherwise read chapters at least a week old

The premise of this story is "A thousand and one nights" between a dragon and his would-be killer. The dragon Vakandi tells the story of his relationship with a country to Sisal.
I think what makes this story stand out is how it interplays what one character thinks is the truth and juxtaposes it with how the other character lived the truth.
Some small things that I appreciated were how the author takes the time to make specific observations unique to each character, giving them a strong degree of depth. Stray thoughts are written out without cutting into the pacing of the plot.
It's a very approachable story - easy to read but with a strong sense of interwoven plots. An item here has history, and you eventually learn about it. How things came to be all have a story of their own, and it's explored to some degree as the dragon relays its history.
Taking it back to what I think are the fundamentals of storytelling:
Plot: There's the plot happening right now (the interplay between the dragon and Sisal), and the plot that's being told (the history). I think the author does a good job of giving both a respectful amount.
Character: Both main characters feel fully fleshed out. They have their unique POV times and you get interested in what they're after the more you learn about them.
World: The world is fleshed out. There's the geography, the environments, the ecosystem, all that. Some magic worldbuilding to always keep you intrigued. I personally would be interested in more about other countries or civilizations aside from the main one and how it affected development, but maybe it's out of scope for this story.
If you're looking for something charming to read with a bit of subversion of expectations, this is the one.

This is a unique short story of dragon and how his relationship with the city deteriorated over time. The story tell us How misinformation turned ones great guardian and father of a city to a its tyrant and How people  bend story for their own gain. With the dragon we learn the city's fondation and why they chose to hate when the problem and the fault was theirs. They didn't appreciated what the dragon did for them, didn't try to understand him. So the dragon had enough and one last time he tell his side of the story to a young wanna be slayer, to make them understand their past and wrongdoing, to tell them be better, because he's done protecting and it's his time to rest. Recommended to dragon lovers, it's a great 👍 story.
