The style of the story is close third person (mostly from the POV of Medusa but we have been promised more POV’s to come). The setting descriptions are really nicely done with a light touch. My only (constructive) criticism is that in some scenes I think characters should be engaged in some kind of action that can be described. If there is no action, then describing hand movements and simple gestures of two people in a conversation can be a little uninspiring. Don’t know the solution to this, just my two cents.
Story
The plot moves on pretty rapidly from the initial setting, to inciting incident, through to a cool time jump. Meeting the ally and learning about her past is great. Love reading a story where the gods are not forces for good and seeing the negative effect of their power on regular folk.
If you like Isekai type books then this could be one for you, she jumps back in time, but into her own past. For this reason it has a lot more depth than your standard, ‘I was flung into X world.’
Character
It is clear from the get-go that this writer knows how to make characters stand out and be clearly defined. Case and point is when Perseus turns up. I just hated him so much and he was a great way to shake up the family life scene we had right before.
Medusa as a character is great because we get to see a monster portrayed as a sympathetic character. Medusa just wants to escape from the bad side of herself, until she finds that perhaps there is a way that she can stop running and face her oppressors.
Grammar
No problems at all, great work. - The OxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is only a few chapters in, but the Sixth Life of Medusa has already impressed me with how well-crafted the character development is. Medusa's struggle and pain, being persecuted throughout multiple incarnations, her struggle and anger and frustration are beautifully expressed and explained.
The author has a wonderful and skillful ability to make their characters sympathetic while not making Medusa overly melodramatic.
We've also begun to see a complex backstory to her persecutor Perseus, which suggests in the future we might understand his motivations for being a relentless oppressor and murderer that Medusa remembered so hatefully.
Fantastic start, and I eagerly await more chapters. - toastinthemachineRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well Done! The hook drew me right in. I love a classic role reversal and after three chapters, I am intrigued, wondering, and thoroughly want to know where you are going. Nice level of action, dialog and pacing. I think there are some word choices and sentence structures I may have done differently, or got a better feel with a different choice/way, but as a writer, we all see/hear/feel the story the way it way it was created in our head. I will be reading more.
