Cece, an orphan from the Black Shore Mountain Clan, dreams of escaping her life of servitude and exploring the world beyond the mountains. She plans to run away to Earth Ward, hoping to find her family. However, she hesitates to leave her best friend Dunkin, behind.

Dunkin, older than Cece, is content with his current existence and believes the Loons warnings about the dangers outside the mountains. This poses a challenge to Cece's dream, as she struggles to convince Dunkin to leave their home.

The arrival of Elias and his vampire friends brings chaos to the Mountain and the people of village. Elias becomes captivated by Cece's beauty and bold attitude. She was like no other girl he had ever met.  But fails to win her over with his charms after he had burned half of the village and tortured ed most of the Loons and innocent bystanders..

Cece fears Elias's possessiveness and the power he holds over all of them when she learns his true identity. After two long months she is relieved when he announces his departure from the mountain. However, her relief is short-lived when Elias reveals that he has bought her from the Loons and intends for her to be his servant by day and bed mistress by night. His promises to show her the world was over shadowed by his purchase of her.
